Territory police are claiming success in tackling youth crime and anti-social behaviour in the northern suburbs during the school holidays.

About 50 young people were arrested during the past eight weeks, some more than once.

The assistant commissioner Grahame Kelly says 25 young people were found on the streets one night and the average age was 12.

He says all the children known as the 'Caz Boys' have now been arrested, but there's still a problem police will target.

"Police have never ever denied that there is a problem with groups of youths in the northern suburb at any time. We know there's a problem and that sort of behaviour is behaviour that we're going to target and we'll continue to target. And people should get the message that we are not going to let people get away with these sorts of behaviours."

Police are urging parents to keep tabs on their children to help stop youth crime.

"One of our primary strategies during the operation was delivering kids home. Often they'd say to police 'No, we're staying around at my mate's place'. And the response of the police was 'You might have been, but you're going home to mum and dad and we're going to tell mum and dad where we found you'."

Will we see follow up details ?

Should see News articles -ok perhaps not name them, for community MUST be informed what happens or justice is blind and dumb AND ignored...

Justice requires community knows criminal behaviour - even with youths, resulted in attending court (with their families?) along with substance of discussions involving Judiciary, prosecution, police, victims, welfare, community advocates, why they on streets late at night and why misbehaving, whether they attending school, why NOT achieving their potentials.

By: darlene.giannini is correct to comment we were all teenagers once, most of us grew up, and that is what these kids are doing...

However most of us had someone around us to discipline us, to make us toe the straight and narrow, and to accompany us to face up to justice when we were dumb and drifted.

Yes we all broke the law in some way at some time... even JC could not please everyone ;-) We need see they learn from the experience, learn breaking the law is NOT cool, not appreciated, has consequences, so hopefully they decide they would rather avoid such consequences the easiest way by trying a little harder to keep within the rules.

Some of us have backgrounds where there are conflicting rules, rules from the ancestors, different rules from the parents, different rules from peers, and different rules from the police.

Growing up is learning how to cope with these conflicts, and obviously some of us needed a little more help during our learning, just like these kids.

NOT giving such help needs also be seen as criminal.

when you stand up to them and kick one of them down a stairwell he just started crying and claiming "I'm only a kid", it was a different story when he threatened to bash me.

In Reply to my message "Here, Here," it was meant as a reply to encourage this behavior but more as a deterrent. I was in agreement with Gunna213 of the 20-03-08

In reply to Greyman1550,
When you try to tell the police that you report any Juvenilr misdemeanor to, one of their favorite "copouts" are "but they are only children" so what hope has society got, I ask you? (I hope you will pardon the unintended pun).
