NT gets 3 of 94 Indigenous health officers
The Federal Government says just three of 94 new Indigenous health project officers will be based in the Northern Territory because it does not have the greatest need for them.
The Government says the project officers will investigate ways of getting more Indigenous people to seek early treatment for chronic diseases like diabetes and cancer.
They will work within general practice and Aboriginal-controlled health organisations, and their recruitment is to start next month.
The Federal Indigenous Health Minister, Warren Snowdon, says the majority of the project officers are needed in jurisdictions other than the Northern Territory.
"The bulk of Aboriginal Australians live along the eastern seaboard in the major cities or in regional centres.
"There are far more people living in New South Wales than there are in the Northern Territory, and so we've got to be working across the whole community, not just in the Northern Territory.
"And the Commonwealth is investing considerably more effort in the Northern Territory in any event than they are currently spending in other parts of Australia."

Of course they do, however they are mostly white born and raised. Snowdon needs his backside kicked. |
