Can't imagine even the media would be so stupid as to want us to copy what the US does. Just take their ridiculous presidential system. 4 years in power, 2 of them on the campaign trail. And forget it unless you have millions spare in your bank account. And a system whereby the president can be from the party in opposition, giving him just a veto to play with. Like bush has vetoed stem cell research, because of being a born again christian.
No, our media would never be so stupid as to wish we copy much of what the dumb yanks do. (just look at their gun laws, dumbest people in the world) |

Is called "the Separation of Powers", to place upon the Administrative or Executive managing authority accountability, the need to negotiate, with the Legislative authority.

~~~~~~~~~~~
These days we don't have a ruling class, we are more or less all, the general population.
I would see our example as being the bloody senate where the opposition may be in control, or, incredibly, a single independent may hold the balance of power. As far as I am concerned, and it doesn't always work to my benefit, I would like to see the senate abolished because I believe when we vote for a party we expect that party to govern for us, and not have the opposition, which may have superior numbers in the senate, deciding which bills pass. |
And to reinforce this view I relate something I heard in parliament today, ABC news station.
A number of times reference was made to the 'Rudd government'. Not the 'Rudd government and those who control the senate', just the 'Rudd government'. I take that to mean the man who leads the party which was elected to be the government. |
yeah....was just a bit perplexed about it's relevance.
I remember that the NT news was the first newspaper I'd even seen that let prostitutes advertise in it. |
have you seen now the inclusion of "neighbor" in the papers? and the list is getting bigger.
then there's the fahrenheit temp. on the homepages of YAHOO7.
read the paper and the date now has changed to american as in month day year...
some people in the media still say day, month, year aka (Australian speak). are we so inferior that we are sucked toward a colonial power as the u.s. is?
why are the recent generation foregoing the Australian 1st mentality? why are they so ashamed of AUSTRALIAN WAY... |
| I don't think the "Americanisation" of our language and culture is because we are "inferior" or "foregoing the Australian 1st mentality" but more like a case of simply being outnumbered by Americans and their way of life. Our TV and other forms of media are flooded by American produced stuff and it seems to brainwash the younger, less mature audiences. I don't like it really but it seems that American culture is becoming more and more common here. Long live the Aussie culture; leave the American stuff behind in the US!!! |
bring back the days of the dina and zack, when men were called blokes not guys, yanks gave us the hamburger which contained no ham, truckies not truckers, bikies not bikers, when a quid was not a dollar, caps were worn with the peak in front, chips rafferty was our hero not arnie.
yes, australia has lost its identity and we can truly be called little america, its such a pity |
| The whole culture is under attack. Why does Australia have so many T.V. shows that are American? This is destroying the wonderful Aussie accent? I also think it is sad that the Australian stockman is looking more like a Hollywood cowboy with the clothes and now the traditional stock saddle is becoming a halfbreed. It really stinks. Can't people protest and stop this destruction of culture? I think the French have a law that requires radio stations to play so many French songs for every American one. Can't Australia do something like this? |
