The Northern Territory is a lost cause. We've had three decades to get it functioning, and now it's time to admit the system doesn't work and needs to be replaced.
N Australia we are used to seeing progress in governance, not failure. We expect governments in our jurisdictions that function well, provide efficient services, and maintain a fair match between the rhetoric of politics and the facts on the ground.
There is, though, a failed state in our midst. That state is not Aboriginal north Australia, where the social fabric is in shreds and tatters. No: it is the jurisdiction largely responsible for entrenching this degree of indigenous disadvantage: the modern-seeming, self-governing Northern Territory.

NEED read majority of the article at The Australian.
Comment: Nicolas Rothwell recognizes the position of many Territorians however errs in seeing and presenting the deprived class by the coincidental of being A* rather than as being the majority of the under-educated class.
The only solution requires education AND participation.
These two actions we see the A* label presented then used - by those in authority, to deny and obstruct members of these underclass communities from grasping opportunities to thrive, to alter their circumstances; Such denial with purpose or ignorant consequence being those in authority may continue their pillaging... |

The NLC and CLC continuously remind us that Ab land in the NT is 'private land'.
In that case these private landowners, just as I am, should look after themselves on their private land.
I think many are awakening to this fact, and until these land councils stop the racist permit system and allow free travel, unencumbered, on any public funded roads, the sympathy currently felt for community inhabitants will continue to diminish, as it should.
I add that many inhabitants have very little knowledge of such matters, it is out of their hands, they do not have a voice because of illiteracy and ignorance. Just the way some in positions of power want it. |

These private landowners, should look after themselves and all their tenants on their private land - in accordance with the Commonweath and or NT Tenancy legislation.
The Commonwealth agreed they would abide by the NT tenancy laws.... obviously this message not made it to the Land Trusts, who refuse to act like the land lords they are....

From your article Pol, the last couple of paragraphs.
~~~
There are intriguing international models to draw on. The most obvious short-term revision of the Territory's workings would be a simple, straightforward decision to tie the GST grants Darwin receives, and require that they be spent on indigenous disadvantage.
The most drastic reform would be to sweep aside the entire panoply of representative government, dispense with the murk and contest of politics, and install a Territory council of administration.
But there is another model that holds out much greater promise for the mainstream population of the Territory and its indigenous citizens. That model involves the separation of the Territory into two distinct jurisdictions and an evolution towards Aboriginal autonomy in specific regions. It will form the subject of a further article in Inquirer next week.
~~~
I think this writer has missed the boat. Seems he is exactly what he rails about, another saviour of the Ab race.
As if it could be so easy.
Get rid of the land councils first and make all Territorians equal. They can come here and we can go there.
Assimilation is the only way forward, as has happened in every other area in OZ. These silly segregation measures are just breeding contempt for AB people. And they do not deserve it to be that way. But as I have said, the average community member has little knowledge of what is happenong outside their own community. |

Segregation- That's what aboriginals want. Alot of them are a r s eholes. They don't have many friends. Even the migrants don't like them. |

How do you justify your child abuse.
And refer to me as joe.king, not your nemesis steve.ropa
~~~~
Ha ha ha ha. Your nemesis, 'Ropes. As if. Ropes has never won a single argument here with me, or with anyone else.
""And refer to me as joe.king,""
Ha ha ha ha. It has been pointed out already that you are a girl. So you are either a bit of fluff Ropes has on the side, or just Ole' Ropes himself trying to pull another swifty.
I reckon the last one is right, cause Ropes is stupid enough to try this again.
And, this girl claims she is 69 years old. Of course you are sweetheart, now have a Bex and a nice lie down. Isn't that better? |
Comment: Also need consider that Nicolas Rothwell and Alison Anderson are a couple.
The NT News Dec '08 ran article reporting how The Australian's award-winning journalist Paul Toohey quit over issues arising which related to this relationship which some believed interfered with or inappropriately fed stories to their junior Sydney-based journalists, Ashleigh Wilson and Natasha Robinson.
Many in the know, may question how much of this is Alison and how much Nicolas Rothwell....
Politics, the media, the NT may all be incestuous bunches ;-) however IMHO end of day the article has Nicholas Rothwell as the author. |
IMHO anyone - even Nicholas Rothwell, who suggests a model involving separation of the NT into two distinct jurisdictions - then claims it as an evolution towards Aboriginal autonomy in specific regions, is just another supporter of apartheid.
Apartheid is an evil practice, and apartheid is the main reason for problems in so many communities.
For apartheid approaches to everything supported by government and fellow traveller "thinkers" are rejecting the application of Australian laws and practices built up over so many generations to maximize ability of individuals to exercise for themselves, their freedoms and rights in relation to their activities - where not harming others.
Clearly the activities permitted by by government and fellow traveller "thinkers" have harmed others.
For another three decades people were still denied their rights and their responsibilities using racial tags - directly in contravention of the Australian peoples purposes at federation and gain in 1967 that NO Australians rights or responsibilities be qualified on grounds of race.
Each Australian needs freedom to make their own decisions, then be accountable for it.
In this post you call me a girl, in another post you refer to me as "he" and yet in another post you call me "Ropes".
Many posters here have you pegged as a fool, and I agree with them.
When your opinions are challenged you resort to personal attacks, and your use of the patronising term "son' is a tatic to put others in their place.
Winning an argument seems to be your only goal, regardless of facts or truth.
Truth is the first casuality of war, and it definatly applies here and to you. |
You called me a child abuser you piece of filth, with no evidence whatsoever to back it up. I would really like you to repeat that to one of my adult sons. I'm sure a lively discussion would ensure.
I know you are Ropes so do not bother trying to deny it.
I will not not forget that personal attack upon me.
I notice that you have just removed your age from your profile, not 67 or 69 anymore? |
"You called me a child abuser you piece of filth, with no evidence whatsoever to back it up."
I did call you a child abuser in the context that you abuse the whole aboriginal population, thus you condemn the innocent children who have to grow up in a world that contains such "filth" as you. I did not call you a child sexual abuser, that is a distinction that may escape you.
The evidence is here on these boards and it points to the fact that you are a racist in the extreme.
Your hang-up with "Ropes" is your obsession not mine, but I would rather shake his hand, not yours. |
A child abuser is a child abuser, you piece of filth.
Don't try and back out of it now.
And, as you well know Ropes, white people like me are the saviour's of the Ab race.
As for shaking Ropes hand, you'll have to take it out of your pocket to do that. Give it a wash first though, there's a good boy. |
It's usually the religious who are the worst kind of racist. I suspect that every Sunday you're off to church to confess you sins and clear your guilty conscience. |
You forgot Ropes that you once posted on another board that you joined a religious cult as a young man.
I was still a boy when I discarded my association with the Church of England, (previously had to go to Sunday school), and became an atheist. At that time I didn't even know I was an atheist, just that I thought it was all BS. |
