Some of what, and how, land councils do things is racist, certainly.

What the land councils have been and are doing has all been accepted by government(s).

Governments slowly came to recognize these actions were not producing the beneficial results, but were harming many.

Will not hold my breath waiting for government to admit their liability - for action and inaction, which produced these mostly foreseeable results.

Governments liability arises in particular from attempts by government to continue to enact laws which qualify rights and or responsibilities on basis of racial testing.

Australian people sort at federation then again in 1967 referenda for all such legislation, all such government regulation, which sort to, or did, divide or qualify the rights and or responsibilities of Australians on grounds of race to be Constitutionally Invalid.

Governments felt they knew better... yet most such racist actions to be successful are supported by Government action or inaction.

Governments have fought a campaign to retain their ability to practice racism...

Don't worry everyone my 5 year old nephew is coming over this afternoon. I'll get him to interpret mdoinitrulz drivel and then repost in an adult format so we can also understand.

Re:blame it on ..... Reply to this message
Australian's have NOT failed generation after generation.

Most Australian's see themselves as almost successful, almost able, to achieve their goals.

This "almost" is for as we come close to achieving our goal, we move our goal posts further, just beyond our reach... so we remain almost there.

Few actually arrive there.

Maslow argues people will naturally and organically grow, develop, and move to maturity when given opportunities and support.

...when given opportunities and support.

Most progressive communities appear to operate this way.

Some Australians are failing, generation after generation, and this is widely recognized.

Sure someone "Fail To Thrive" this need not, should not, be the absolute end for them, their children or relations.

Avoiding such dismal results is why we regard education as so important; So everyone obtains basic skills (speaking English, reading, writing and arithmetic) which are critical to provide each their opportunity, to reduce chance of their just being a number who fails to succeed.

Lifestyles have changed.

Read a little of Maslow's Motivation and Personality

http://www.businessballs.com/maslow.htm

1. Biological and Physiological needs - air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep, etc.

2. Safety needs - protection from elements, security, order, law, limits, stability, etc.

3. Belongingness and Love needs - work group, family, affection, relationships, etc.

4. Esteem needs - self-esteem, achievement, mastery, independence, status, dominance, prestige, managerial responsibility, etc.

5. Self-Actualization needs - realising personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences.

Re:blame it on ..... Reply to this message
Perhaps when we fail ourselves it may make us feel better to blame another.

However such is unlikely to help us.

We each must strive to improve things for ourselves, our families, our communities...

Concentrating on blaming others detracts significantly from our ability to just get on with life and improving things for all.

Except for those who see life as the consumer of others' rubbish and caste aways.

Tomlinson's view you may prefer = Aboriginal assimilation: the Hub of the matter

Tomlinson:
http://www.onlineopinion.com.au/view.asp?article=8 976

yet it appears rejected in responses:
http://forum.onlineopinion.com.au/thread.asp?artic le=8976

[remove the Yahoo inserted blank space]

So whilst understand you are inferring Australians have failed generations after generations of indigenous persons, do not agree.

Most these failures were directly caused by government and politicians.

Exists a difficulty for Australians to instruct their government, their representatives, on such as these matters.

When able at Federation then in 1967 the clear and loud intent of Australians was for NO Australian's rights and or responsibilities to be qualified on basis of racial tests.

Responsible then are those arguing NO racism means just changing the flavor served, as long as was flavor they liked to serve or receive.

IF Australia was to approach out current failings in manner similar to post WWII Germany and Japan, or Maoist China, activists for the A* team arguments would all be required attend re-education to cease their acts of racism.

Perhaps some merit there...

Re:blame it on ..... Reply to this message
I COULD not agree more with Gary Johns' perceptive analysis of the celebrated Samson and Delilah ("Myth of outback escape is unrealistic", Opinion, 4/6). The film is a documentary depiction of a society with little hope. The only character who comes out of the movie with any credit is Delilah for her enormous strength in the face of the desperate lifestyle outstation Aborigines are prisoners to.

Body: If this is the reality of what Aboriginal people endure, then I welcome Jenny Macklin's hard-headed initiative to create a new urban lifestyle for them. The film world lives with blinkers on and is full of pseudo-anthropolgists who think of outstation Aborigines as tribal people who should go back to their old ways, but there is no sustainable lifestyle in the bush and no going back.

Comment: After the letter some good discussion follows.

let the rot continue mindless auzzies, care not for their fellow man... the men of the war eras would spit at the auzzie man of today, gutless, spineless, lacking morality and fortitude, lacking courage and comradery. not even a shadow of the men who made Australia great in the early 1900's

So you agree with the following Anka;
