| If they made the people in NSW get a boat licence like other states in Australia, then just maybe there won't be so many boating accidents. So come on NSW Premier, get your act together and change the law, because how it is at the moment, is a joke. |

| How would a boat license have stopped this accident as the boat involved was stolen? |

True, but NSW has this stupid law that people don't need to get a licence if they only go as fast as 10 knots. Well hello NSW, WAKE UP, because there are quite a few people who go alot faster than 10 knots.
So I wonder how the boat owner is feeling today, leaving his keys where someone else knows. He too should become more responsible. |

| Idiots will be idiots. I have no sympathy whatsoever for the fools in the pleasure craft. If the boat was stolen, speeding, overloaded, unlit and there were alcohol or drugs involved then it was a recipe for disaster. I feel sorry for the guys on the fishing vessel who were simply off to work when they collided with the other boat. What do they do now that their boat is out of action and their livelihood has been interrupted? Hopefully they were insured and can resume work promptly. It will probably take them a while to get over the emotional trauma caused by those dickheads. |

| Every story I've read or heard has called it a tragedy. It wasn't a tragedy at all - what it was was a bunch of p1sshead theives who got what they deserved. |

General Licence
A licence for people aged 16 years and over to drive any vessel, except a PWC at 10 knots or more.
General Young Adult Licence
A restricted licence for those aged from 12 to under 16 years. A Young Adult Licensee must:
be accompanied by the holder of a General Licence when travelling at 10 knots or more
never exceed 20 knots
never travel at 10 knots or more after sunset and before sunrise
never travel at 10 knots or more when towing an aquaplaner
never tow a water skier or wake boarder
not drive in any race, display, regatta or exhibition without prior consent from the NSW Maritime and
never operate a PWC unless the holder of a Young Adult PWC Licence.
Personal Watercraft (PWC) Licence
A special licence is required to ride a PWC regardles of what speed it is driven. To obtain a PWC licence, the test for a General Licence must be passed first. Additional test questions must then be passed. Persons who hold a General Licence can upgrade to a PWC Licence at any time by undertaking the PWC Licence Boating Safety Course correctly answering additional questions.
Young Adult PWC Licence
seems you need a licence to drive ANY vessel, not that would have stopped this lot, shame they had to lose their lives over it, and upset a whole lot of people.

| P.S. If the fishermen weren't insured then who is going to pay to have their boat repaired or replaced? It should be the surviving fools, but I guess it will have to wait until they are released from prison, which is where they should end up. |

From what I read in the paper the skipper was not drinking at the pub as he said he had to drop someone at watsons bay so "maybe" alcohol in the drivers case was not a factor but there was defiantely beer on board and the others were drunk. Sounds like the skipper had a boat license.
As the skipper is one of the ones that lived I would hate to have to live with that on my conscience for the rest of my life let alone having to face the families of the deceased.
We were all young are bullet proof one day so yeah I do feel sorry for them, more so for the families |

WOW! there are some strong sentiments here.
But it needs to be put into perspective a little, up to this point.
Firstly, one should feel extreme sorry for the deceased and for the families and friends, and also for the fishermen and their family and friends,(the guilt must be terrible, even if they did no wrong), and the comments above do not go towards healing this guilt.
"If" the boat was stolen, then this in itself is terrible,(but lets wait and see if this IS the case.
As for "drugs" involved,(alcohol is a drug), then this is also something that needs to be addressed by the proper authorities to stamp out this sad behaviour in society,(again).
Yes, I do concur with the anger the above comments imply, but also feel there needs to be some laws addressed here so the deceased at least did not die in vain.
Name calling will not help this, but understanding of this situation, and many others like it that go unnoticed every evening,(yes, I live on Sydney Harbour and yes, I have witnessed many dangerous boating near misses).
One just hopes that things are NOT being said, and blame being put on people to cover some ones back side.(read between the lines here). |

| While the loss of life in this incident is very sad, the truth is, that when all is said and done the main cause of this accident will prove to be stupidity. |
