Sydney Traffic Reply to this message
Every day I look at hundreds if not thousands of faces. They are the faces of my fellow Sydney drivers, as they sit. And wait. And wait a bit longer. What are they waiting for? Every time I see Eric the Red (faced) minister on the tube, I just feel like asking, "What the?". I have been at MANY 'accidents' and I am constantly amazed by the sheer stupidity of the system that allows these things to happen. Every day I witness acts of absolute blind arrogance or stupidity, and a lot of the time I am convinced it is IGNORANCE. Proper traffic management (and we are stuck with the necessity of it) must begin with very clear mandates regarding the responsibilities, and the authority of the RTA. Should driving tests be tougher? Should there be more driver education? Is road infrastructure to blame?
These are all questions I have heard in the media over recent months, but my question is this...
What happens to a fighter pilot if he takes his mind off the job of flying, even for a moment? The answers are myriad, but one thing is for sure...'Something Bad'.

Re:Sydney Traffic Reply to this message
Put it this way, its just another indication of the absolute and complete stupidity and ignorance of the population as a whole about just about anything that could or would affect or change their lives for the better.

I vote moving off planet. Who's with me?

Re:Sydney Traffic Reply to this message
There are a lot of cars on the road.

I wonder if there is anybody else who agrees with this profound statement of truth?

Just think if all the kids actually caught a bus instead of getting mum or dad to drive them to school? Note how much easier the traffic seems during school holidays?

and why is there so many cars on the road with only the driver? if there was extra demand I'm sure the rail and bus infrastructure would expand to accommodate it.

Trouble is we all love our car and the independence it gives us, but couldn't we try, just one day a week even, to use public transport?

or are we all so apathetic that we would rather put up with the sh'~'t traffic thanactually contribute to a solution....?

Re:Sydney Traffic Reply to this message
They don't obey the roda rules.

The little one was taken to her mum's house and then to her cousin's house on Friday, There was a car crash in Banknstown and then on Sunday when went down to get her on the way back there was a car crash on exactly the same road in the same area. What are the odds of that happening.
it is mainly cause by people being impatient and not being extra careful on the roads.

Re:Sydney Traffic Reply to this message
TODAYS QUOTE ____ About 50 cyclists - including Australian racer Kate Nichols, who was injured in a 2005 German road racing crash in which a teammate was killed - have been involved in a hit-and-run crash in Sydney this morning.

The resulting smash forced a semitrailer to lock up, jackknife and screech to a halt behind the cyclists while cars had to swerve to avoid them.

Also involved in the crash, at 6.35am on South Cross Drive, south of the corner of Dacey Avenue in Mascot, were former Olympians Ben Kersten, Kate's father Kevin Nichols, Graeme Brown, Michelle Ferris and Matthew White.

Witnesses to the crash have told smh.com.au the group of about up to 60 professional cyclists were riding south on Southern Cross Drive, just south of Dacey Avenue, Mascot about 6.30am when a driver, agitated with being held up, accelerated in front of the pack and then slammed on his brakes, giving the riders no time to stop............

Now while I certainly do not condone the conduct of the car driver, it is disgusting selfish and stupid behaviour - I hope they throw the book at him --- I have to ask the question, WHY is it necessary for 60 racing cyclists to use public roads IN PEAK HOUR TRAFFIC to train, and then winge about their treatment. wake up people.

Which bit of "that's REALLY dumb" don't you understand.???

If these cyclists think they are NOT a problem they should think again, all they are doing is asking for trouble.

No sympathy here.

Re:Sydney Traffic Reply to this message
A couple of weeks ago it took me 1 hour and 20 minutes to travel from Adderton Rd/Pennant Hills Rd at Carlingford to Copeland Rd at Beecroft. Normal travel time on Friday afternoon peak is about 18-22mins. Three phone calls to RTA turned up nothing. They said there were no incidents that could be causing the problem. When I got home my daughter said "did you ge caught in the traffic dad?" to which i just grunted. she then told me that it was on the news at 3.00pm - a truck had broken down at Wahroonga (check the map people) and it still hadn't been moved.

Please Mr RTA man, pay attention. We complain about lost productivlty due to people taking sickies (probably due to stress from traffic) What about this. (figures are arbitrary)

10,000 people held up for one hour at average wage of $38.36* / hr is $3,8360,000. (*I couldn't believe it either)

Re:Sydney Traffic Reply to this message
PS.

My journey was between 5:10 and 6:30pm. and its about 12km. 9 sets of lights. and probably another 15km to the incident location.

The funniest thing about it was the fact that the traffic report was based on RTA information.

BTW use the 131700 phone number EVERY time you witness or are held up by something dumb. Thats what it is apparently there for. Often I have found that when I report slow phasing lights the operator can look at the intersection on SCAT and over ride the current phase settings. Computer ain't that clever I guess,

Does anybody know if SCAT software has been updated...ever? It's well over 20 years old now....

Re:Sydney Traffic Reply to this message
RE the comment about catching public transport or at least once a week catching public transport. I'd love to if I didn't have to catch a bus to catch 2 slow trains then catch another bus and then walk 1.5 km on the road to get access to where I work and then turn around at the end of the day and do it in reverse.

I'm with you. Takes me 10 mins to drive to work. If I caught public transport it would take me around an hour and a half and the cost in the end would be very similar to petrol even with these highly inflated prices.
