| I voted no for getting rid of pokies in pubs & clubs.every no bet put in the poll automatically gives the yes vote triple or more votes. When are we going to stop the do gooders & the politicians from taking away our freedom. Are we now ruled by Gestapo telling us what we can & can't do? when will we be responsible for our own actions or non actions? To tell you the truth this Country is getting pretty scary. |

7 out of 10 polled would like them removed
Don't, don't explain
Lots of little victories take on the pain
It takes so long to earn
You can double up or you can burn, you can burn
And I wish I, wish I knew the right words
To make you feel better, walk out of this place
and Defeat them in your secret battle
Show them you can be your own man again
And I wish I, wish I knew the right words
To blow up the pokies and drag them away
'Cause they're taking the food off your table
So they can say that the trains run on time
Flashing lights, it's a real show
And your wife? I wouldn't go home
The little bundles need care
And you can't be a father there

| I hope the government makes all forms of gambling incredibly difficult to access. The toll it takes on families is too much. It will not stop it, hopefully though it will lessen the effects. |

What any government does as regards making gambling difficult will have very little if any effect on addicted gamblers, if they can't gamble legally they will do it illegally as the did back in the days of the SP bookies, Thommo's two up, the illegal gaming clubs around the cross and many other places, if there is a need for something someone will provide it, better to have gambling in legalized clubs and venues than to have it go underground. |

If the government and the Hotels Association ares serious about curbing Gambling Addiction then restrict the amount they can gamble and how often they gamble each week. All pubs should have enclosed Poker Machine Areas. Accessed only by a Members Card, issued by the Government to the Hotels and Clubs. The Pokies cannot operate without the Card being inserted and using a PIN, just like an ATM. The card can only be credited with a set limit each week determined by a percentage of their disposable income and only be credited a limited amount of times per week at the venue. Once the Credit is used up for that week then the Machine/s stop working. The Gambler will either have to stop playing and collect or keep playing with any winnings. That way they are not going to be gambling with more than they can afford to lose. Everyone wins, the Gamblers can have their Pokie Fix and the Hotels & Government still get their chop. Only other restriction is the amount a person can drink while playing the pokies. It's less fun playing the pokies without a skinfull. They should also pipe Classical Music into the Pokie Rooms. It will either create a calming atmosphere and they won't be so angry when they lose or they won't be able to stand not listening to Jimmy Barnes or The Angels and leave the area.
The government should also change the Centrelink Payment Scheme to make sure the recipients rent/mortgage is directly debited from their payments before receiving the balance into their bank accounts. If they have children and receive a Parenting Payment then they have to provide receipts to prove they are using it for the children, otherwise it will be taken off them until they do. The receipts can be attached to their fortnightly dole form. If they end up spending the rest of their own money on Alcohol, Smokes and the Pokies they won't have enough to buy food with. Eventually they'll starve to death and won't be able to play the pokies. Problem Solved!!!!! |

| I disagree Mario, I have friends who have been addicted to gambling, they have have said time and again to me "Do you know how hard it is with venues for gambling on every street corner taunting you?" If it were harder to do they would gamble less. Straight fom the horses mouth. |

Pokies in clubs at least create a source of income that is shared within the local community...sporting clubs, hopsitals etc. The pubs are just straight in the owner's pocket...usually a consortium of filthy rich overseas owners.
I HATE pokies and what they represent but I know it will only drive gambling underground to ban them totally.
However I do not agree with having ATM's close by |

| Not having ATM's will also create an even bigger problem. They are called loan sharks and within the Asian community especially they are huge. I think the better way to go about this is for people who want to gamble they have to hold a gambling license. That way it can be policed at all outlets Australia wide and if a persons license has been canceled then they won't be allow to gamble simple as that. I also believe the same for alcohol if people had to have a license to drink or purchase alcohol with the chance that if they abuse it can loose it you might see a difference. |

| Pokies in casinos and clubs is fine (not great) but fine but the fact that almost every pub you go into these days has a large chunk set aside for them, it would be nice to go where there were none. |

I'd like to see more childrens entertainment in the car park areas.
The thing is, when your just about to get the free spins, one of the little blighters needs something like water or food.
It interrupts the flow, and means we'll have to have more kids to get the baby bonus, so we can play the machines more.
I got three elephants yesterday, if I got five I would have won heaps of money. |

I plan to, dont worry about that.
Thing is, I already went through the missus' purse, and she must have blown all her money as well.
How irresponsible is she? |

"every no bet put in the poll automatically gives the yes vote triple or more votes" how do you know this tigerlizzard ?
"the do gooders" poor pet is having John Laws withdrawals
Given the amount of people that have become wealthy from playing the "pokies" and the numbers of pubs and clubs that go broke from all the money they have to pay out to the winners that play these great inventions.
Next thing the "do gooders" will be saying there is a pile of evidence that no one could pole vault over that shows that the vast majority of the total losers’ that play these things have the least amount of money to waste on this simple minded garbage....
They wouldn’t …..would they ? |

If you are stupid enough to contribute to the State governments coffers and enable humble RSL's to become majestic monuments to your stupidity, then go ahead and put your hard earned through these legalised thieving machines.
We shouldn't have to legislate to protect those too dumb to protect themselves. It doesn't work with drug laws and never worked when anti-gambling laws were severe.
So go ahead dummies, play away your pay and allow me to pay less tax. |

| No one forces people to play, I have never been forced to play. I believe thats called freedom of choice, as in smoking and drinking. I am over people blaming pokies for the ills of the world. Have some courage and don't play them if they cause you problems. Yes and I do come South Western Sydney were some have a tendancy to blame others for their misfortune. Put more pokies in clubs and pubs. |
