That what I was thinking about as I think that thunderstorms usually are worse for about 1 and half to 2 hours most of the time after that the storm settles down but that is not always the case it is better to safe than sorry that is what I say

About Graphical Severe Thunderstorm Warnings in New South Wales
The Bureau of Meteorology has implemented an enhanced severe thunderstorm warning service in NSW and the ACT. This uses graphics to better define the areas under threat when these dangerous thunderstorms are occurring. The graphics complement the Bureau's traditional text-based warning service.
Severe Thunderstorms
A severe thunderstorm is a thunderstorm that produces one or more of the following:

* A tornado
* Hail of diameter 2cm or greater
* Wind gusts of 90 km/h or greater
* Very heavy rain leading to flash flooding.

For more information about Severe Thunderstorms refer to the Severe Thunderstorms Brochure

Only about 10 percent of thunderstorms are severe, but these account for approximately 90 percent of the damage produced by all thunderstorms.
Overview of the Severe Thunderstorm Warning Service in NSW

The Bureau of Meteorology issues Severe Thunderstorm Warnings whenever severe thunderstorms are occurring in an area or are expected to develop or move into the area during the ensuing few hours. The warnings describe the area under threat and the particular hazards likely to be associated with the thunderstorms. These warnings are distributed widely to the media and emergency services, and are available to the public via the Web and various telephone and fax-based services. An image is available with the warning on the Web to show in map format the area at risk. This service is provided for all parts of NSW.

When severe thunderstorms are actually occurring, or are about to move into, the heavily populated region around Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong, the Bureau of Meteorology will issue a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning for people in the affected region. High quality, full-time weather radar coverage in this area allows these warnings to describe the current location of individual thunderstorms, and the places likely to be affected within the next 3 ...

High quality, full-time weather radar coverage in this area allows these warnings to describe the current location of individual thunderstorms, and the places likely to be affected within the next 30 to 60 minutes. Re:N.S.W severe thunderstorm warning Reply to this message
When is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning Issued?

* A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued when a severe thunderstorm is reported, or there is strong evidence of a severe thunderstorm, and it is expected to persist
* Also, Severe Thunderstorm Warning is issued when existing thunderstorms are likely to develop into a severe thunderstorm

Severe thunderstorms can be quite localised and develop quite quickly. The exact location of severe thunderstorms can be hard to predict. The warnings are usually issued without much lead-time before the event. To try and issue warnings with a greater lead-time would lead to a flood of false alarms, thus rendering the service ineffective.
DETAILED and BROAD-BASED Warnings

The Bureau maintains a network of weather watch radars which are the prime source of information that can be used to maintain an effective severe thunderstorm warning service. The radar networks are focused on the main population centres. In these locations, the Bureau provides a more detailed severe thunderstorm warning service to cater for the densely populated cities and surrounding areas, particularly in the east where the worst severe storms occur. Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued for other parts of Australia, but these will usually be less detailed.
How often is a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued?

While the threat remains, a severe thunderstorm warning will usually be issued every three hours, however the more detailed city warnings may be issued every 30-60 minutes.
What information is included in the Severe Thunderstorm Warning?

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings can contain the following information:
Information Detailed
Warnings Broad-Based
Warnings
Standard Emergency Warning Signal (SEWS) - only sounded for extreme events Very few Very few
Expected phenomena (Large hail, Damaging winds, etc) All All
Threat Area All All

This type of weather is good air conditioning though.
Also the water that falls with the storm due to heavy rainfall usually goes into the dams and therefore is god for pretty much everyone.
