Canberra Pedestrians Reply to this message
Have they got a death wish, walking out in front of cars reversing in car parks, have they left their brains at home when they go shopping.

And one driver I saw STOPPED at the Exit of the car park and held everyone up both going out and going into the area, where does this thinking come from ?

Pedestrians have right of way Lol.

They are just crazy people. Besides, to drive around someone walking infront of you is negligent driving anyway

Re:Canberra Pedestrians Reply to this message
this is not confined to canberra.they do it everywhere.
I don't mind giving way to pedestrians but they walk up the side of a reversing car and then walk behind it.
The worrying part is most of these people drive cars.

Re:Canberra Pedestrians Reply to this message
My concerns are that these adults are teaching their children to do the same, and I am fearfull that more children will be injured; and
just because you have right of way (which I think is doubtfull) does not mean you put yourself or your child in harm as you well know Drivers don't always see the child behind their car.

madcowmess: John Hargreaves has trained these people....

Sorry but I don't understand your thinking here; what does a Politician have to do with this topic ?

Just another experience: two 4 x wheel drivers reversed out without looking to see if anything was behind them; and no doubt they would blame the person they injured for being there in the firt place.

Come on Canberra People give a little thought to what you are going, some common sense would go a long way.

aprilhud123,

John Hargreaves has for many years been guiding the social maturing of the people of Canberra. I struggle to think why it is that you would not understand the involvement and progress reports on the stewardship at the hand of this MLA.

Maybe it is because I have a mind of my own; and why I would consider blaming anyone for my decision to walk behind a car backing out of a car space (we all know that cars have blind spots; and cant see people at times)

Basically aprilhud123 Madcow is saying people have no capacity for self determination

Seems as if Madcow thinks differently from many other people; saying that Pedestrians have right of way in car parks for example "so why do we have pedestrian crossings in these locations"; and I don't think he is capable of self determination or knowing what it is.

I do hope that some common sense prevails and people start teaching their children the "rules of the road"

If you are driving a car, no matter your opinion about peds, it is the driver that has the higher responsibility to not drive over a ped.

That is a given madcowmess; however, it is also a fact that a person can stop faster that a car; and which one would sustain the most injury?

I have my heart in my mouth every time my bus goes through Civic Interchange in the morning. People just randomly crossing in front of busses without looking. I have nothing but admiration for the bus drivers in this situation when I see these people treating the interchange like a zebra crossing.

Re:Canberra Pedestrians Reply to this message
aprilhud123, a driver claiming I didn't look and that the ped should have known better would amount to a tragedy that can be avoidable. Drivers have supreme responsibility for their driving actions, not the ped.

What if the ped is a child. Children do not have the same grasp of driving as does a licenced motorist. Your thoughts?

Children have to learn; and Road Rules are usually taught by Parents.

My thoughts are that we need to again teach Road Rules on TV like any other advertising campain.

You have said nothing convincing about your idea that it is the responsibility of the ped. I maintain that ALL reponsibility is with the driver.

Cheers.

Actually, I have been involved with assisting a friends child. Nevertheless, the driver has total responsibility for the dangers involved in driving, not the peds.
