This is so cool! I cant believe I live in such a spooky town (removes tongue from cheek)
Canberra wins ghostly reputation
Tourists seeking a ghostly experience are advised to head to the ACT, which has been labelled Australia's most haunted state or territory.
Canberra was given the title in a new book titled Haunted and Mysterious Australia, a comprehensive new travel guide to paranormal Australia penned by Tim the Yowie Man.
The book chronicles the highlights of Tim the Yowie Man's decade-long odyssey investigating over 1000 haunted locations around Australia, from Port Arthur to Darwin and Norfolk Island to Christmas Island.
"The National Library of Australia, National Gallery of Australia, National Film and Sound Archive, National Museum of Australia and Old Parliament House are all amongst the most haunted buildings in the nation," according to the Yowie Man.
"For a city as young as Canberra, it is a surprising result."
Sarah Hitch , General Manager of Australian Capital Tourism, said the book presented some of Canberra's most significant cultural attractions in a different light.
"Australians can now discover this unique and quirky side to the national capital," she said. - Travelpress travel news |

| Canberra is the most boring capital city in the world. There is absoloutly nothing to see and do there, it's no wonder virtually no tourists ever go there. |

I agree with tripod, i left canberra in 2003 (after the fires) and he is right, after playing in bands here in brisbane and touring the country and OS and having been back there (family etc) there is NOTHING to do there.
The Muso scene was great at one stage now its all crap. The only thing real left is places like the Pot Belly bar (my all time fav bar to drink at and play music in) |

The live music scene is bad here. I have friends in bands who say it's getting worse. Not only in Canberra, but Sydney and Melbourne as well.
Doof doof and Pokies have killed it.
Live places now. Toast, Green Room, Pot Belly and The Venue. |

I lived i Canberra until I was 22 and then move to sydney in 1998. We always had a pretty decent music scene in the ACT for its size. And you're right, the scene is diminishing everywhere. I love the ACT and am proud to have grown up there. I have nothing to be pretentious about, gained a strong education and had the choice of some of the biggest and best skateparks in the southern hemisphere...
Anyway, getting back to the original discussion. Has anyone else had any ghostly experiences?
For me, the pinies around mount stromlo were scary - even during the daytime. Has anyone else heard the "Flaming Car" near yarralumla story? |

Flaming Car? No. But I did have an attack of the Flaming Farts after a bad curry. Whooo heee! No ghost to blame that one I'm afraid. |

OHHH So that was YOU captain!!!!
I left Canberra in 2003 - after the fires too!!! (ironically I then moved to Tassie only to be surrounded by bushfires again LOL)
But I have a soft spot for Canberra and lots of very good friends there. It's not the most thrilling city to live in but it's a sort of "roll-your-own" adventure deal. There's plenty to do if you make the effort and with it's cleaner air, numerous cycle paths, nature reserves and bizarre circular street layout it has a kind of quirky charm.
I'm sad to hear the live music scene is getting so bad tho. |
