His staff do not work on Friday afternoons. This is a real problem to be resolved. I wonder how it will be resolved?

Re:John Hargreaves Reply to this message
Hargreaves vows to behave

Sunday Canberra Times
August 26 2007

By Jonathon Dart

Labour MLA John Hargreaves has admitted that he “needs some Zen” amid widespread criticism of his aggressive behaviour in parliament.

Matters came to a head this week when the opposition called for an inquiry into Mr Hargreaves’ behaviour after he called Liberal MLA Steve Pratt the “d i c k head of the week” and a “silly old goat”.

Although Mr Hargreaves said that the verbal broadside was part of the rough and tumble of politics”, he was appalled that attacks in the Legislative Assembly were becoming more personal.

But he said it was the Opposition, not him, that was guilty of deteriorating standards, saying that the Opposition was orchestrating a personal campaign against him.

Asked why he had been singled out, Mr Hargreaves said, “They know that if I do respond, I’m not likely to stand before them and burst into tears. I’m more likely to respond with something equally as colourful.”

“So they can then report that, omitting their own contributions and making me look bad.” Mr Hargreaves has a long history of indiscretions in the Assembly, including calling Mr Pratt a “despicable short man” and a “lazy, lazy shadow”.

But he has vowed to improve his behaviour and said he has turned to a book, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, for guidance.

“I don’t have a motorcycle, but I need some Zen,” he said. Now what will I do, whenever they try to bait me or they try to criticise me or they try to damage me, I will merely sit back, meditate and look them the contempt that they’re due.”

Re:John Hargreaves Reply to this message
Opposition Leader Bill Stefaniak labelled Mr Hargreaves’ claims as “nonsense” and said that he had overstepped the line.

“There’s room for a bit of banter in the Assembly that he engages in and the Chief Minister engages in, which can be a bit over the top at times,” he said. “While that might not be terribly edifying, it might not be beyond the bounds of what would happen in a normal parliament.

“But when a minister simply will not answer questions, and attacks the people who are asking legitimate questions, it has gone too far. I think he really needs to have a look at himself and pull his head in.”

Hi Ann,

Any problems you have with deletions are between yourself and Yahoo7.

The matter of this thread is regarding a politician in ACT who is facing an election this year. I am interested in seeing the end of this politician. As such I think his grubby mouth and his loathing of people in the public who do not measure up to his standards are reasonable matters of discussion.

Cheers

It is not about the xmas list, it is about the need to help those that are not well.

Re:John Hargreaves Reply to this message
Some friends and I bumped into Chief Minister Jon Stanhope in the street an hour back. One of the friends asked Stanhope to take over the problem and resolve it, rather than just keep saying - he is working on it. Guitar Phil in fact insisted that Stanhope takes this problem away from Hargreaves removing a void and as Chief Minister to directly manage the problem himself and solve the problem of Lyle Upson living in the car park.

Re:John Hargreaves Reply to this message
I myself advised Stanhope that the three heads of ACT Mental Health have for six months refused contact after agreeing to a recuperation plan. He was dismissive.

I also advised Stanhope of the legislation that provides an obligation to seek a tenants written permission to change the tenancy contract. He was dismissive.
