Is this legal??????? Reply to this message
I have been informed by Telstra that my mobile contract has been terminated by them, and they have sent me a bill for nearly $500.The reason they gave was that I owed them a measly $25 from the previous month. Now I have no mobile service and a huge bill!
I asked if i could simply pay the $25 and get reconnected but they said this was not possible and I will have to pay the $ 500 bill that THEY initiated....I`m soooo pissed off with them and they wont listen to reason. They dont even care that I am a disabled pensioner with limited mobility!
They really SUCK!

Guess what? Telsta can let you go to Optus or any other telco and you can use prepaid wherever you go. So given this truth, big finger to your former telco. DO NOT PAY, or get ph kt we don't want to know.

The prepaid phones are really the best way to go but with these big companies if you talk to someone "in charge." Not a customer service rep. they can, and usually will, drop the fee's.

You have insist to speak to "someone in authority."

LOOK up the telecommunications ombudsman and put in a complaint-if they think you have a case-they will give you a reference humber and a phone number for a relevant Telstra trouble shooter to sort it out for you.
I think this is your best bet to avoid paying a big fee-seems pretty unreasonable-unless you are way behind on your contract!

We`ve been having trouble with Telstra recently, as have quite a few of our friends.

If yours is small account, the ombudsman is definitely the way to go.

FFS it's rachelle so who gives a f.ck?

Probably bullshit like her suicide and love life. Look out here comes Lisa to the rescue. No messing about with the ombudsman for our Lisa she has a direct number for a High Court Judge.

The ombudsman will definitely get you reconnected or off the hook.

You should also contact A Current Affair etc and let them know about this.

Or you could pay your bills on time. Why do people always look to complain at oters when it was their action that started the reaction. OK you say its only %25 but wher shouldthe cutoff occur. Some might say higher. Easier to say zero tolerance. Same arguemnt is used by those running late for planes."I was only a few minutes!!!"

Yeah they would love it. A suicidal dyke with a twisted love life, a phone bill and loan sharks. A top story that one.

Re:Is this legal??????? Reply to this message
Where did the $500 come from if you only owed them $25?

Wise advice from Busty there. Telstra can often be incompetent but this sounds like something that may be rectified through reading your contract. Also, the ombudsman can't help you if you have signed an agreement with Telstra which allows them to do what they are doing.

Read the contract and make sure you are in the right before making any complaints. The ombudsman doesn't like have his/her time wasted either.

"Read the contract and make sure you are in the right before making any complaints. "

Best advice I've read all day. Won't stop some from complaining though. Next it will be "they didn't tell me that" or "How was I supposed to know"

Always read your contract!

"Oppressive contracts are illegal."

................

That's not exactly true, Yssen. If you are naive enough to sign on the dotted line without knowing what all the terms and conditions are then you have legally agreed to the terms of their contract. There are plenty of deals offered by companies offering credit, mobile connection, loans, used cars, credit cards, store credit, etc which look great....until you don't hold up your side of the bargain. Best to read the fine print and avoid getting caught up in something you can't afford to deal with.
