Only Beautiful Things Reply to this message
This is a big ask, but I'm asking anyway, I'm looking for a small space to post only beautiful things, quotes, profound truths, poetry - original or not as long as the creator of the poem is acknowleged, inspirational and motivational sayings and discussion around those.
Whilst I accept there is beauty in religion please try to refrain from posting religious information.
I'm not naive enough to expect my requests to be adhered to but please try!
Thank you.

Re:Only Beautiful Things Reply to this message
I shall start with the works of the fabulous Chilean Poet Pablo Neruda:

Love Sonnet XI

I crave your mouth, your voice, your hair.
Silent and starving, I prowl through the streets.
Bread does not nourish me, dawn disrupts me, all day
I hunt for the liquid measure of your steps.

I hunger for your sleek laugh,
your hands the color of a savage harvest,
hunger for the pale stones of your fingernails,
I want to eat your skin like a whole almond.

I want to eat the sunbeam flaring in your lovely body,
the sovereign nose of your arrogant face,
I want to eat the fleeting shade of your lashes,

and I pace around hungry, sniffing the twilight,
hunting for you, for your hot heart,
like a puma in the barrens of Quitratue.

Martin Luther King, jr.
We must rapidly begin the shift from a "thing-oriented" society to a "person-oriented" society. When machines and computers, profit motives and property rights are considered more important than people, the giant triplets of racism, materialism, and militarism are incapable of being conquered.

Re:Only Beautiful Things Reply to this message
Bertrand Russell:
Three passions have governed my life:
The longings for love, the search for knowledge,
And unbearable pity for the suffering of humankind.

Love brings ecstasy and relieves loneliness.
In the union of love I have seen
In a mystic miniature the prefiguring vision
Of the heavens that saints and poets have imagined.

With equal passion I have sought knowledge.
I have wished to understand the hearts of people.
I have wished to know why the stars shine.

Love and knowledge led upwards to the heavens,
But always pity brought me back to earth;
Cries of pain reverberated in my heart
Of children in famine, of victims tortured
And of old people left helpless.
I long to alleviate the evil, but I cannot,
And I too suffer.

This has been my life... I found it worth living.

Emily Dickinson

Life

HOPE is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard; 5
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I ’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea; 10
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

George Washington Carver:
How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because someday in life you will have been all of these.

Re:Only Beautiful Things Reply to this message
Lost in day to day,
Turned another way
With a laugh, a kind hello
And some small talk with friends I know
I forget that I'm not over you for a while.

A wave, an easy grin,
A smile to put them in,
Got other lives to listen to
And some music that I have to do
I forget that I'm not over you for a while.

Days go by with no empty feeling,
Until I touch my hair and touch my skin
And remember you're gone.

People say to me, "hey Nina do you need some company?
When you have some time to spend,
Drop around-you need your friends."

They forget that I'm not over you.....

for a while

I can't go on without you
Your love is all I'm living for
I know whatever betides me
I love you...

I love you...

I do

Druid Prayer

O Earth-Mother!
We praise Thee:
that seed springeth,
that flower openeth,
that grass waveth.
We praise Thee:
for winds that whisper,
through the shining birch,
through the lively pine,
throught the mighty oak.
We praise Thee,
for all things,
O Earth-Mother,
Who givest Life.

Healing

I met the little girl inside of me today,

I brought her home with me to stay,

To heal the wounds that go so deep,

For they are forever mine to keep.

And even though they'll leave a scar,

I won't let my little girl wander far,

Behind the walls inside of me,

For light is all I want her to see.

Re:Only Beautiful Things Reply to this message
Laughing Mary

by John O'Brien

With cheeks that paled the rosy morn

And romped with us among the corn
When we were kids together.
Her mother's help, her mother's mate,
Her mother's darling daughter,
When riper mind and more sedate
The rapid years had brought her.

As pure as air from mountain snows,
As dainty as a fairy,
As fetching as the native rose,
And always - Laughing Mary.
A little mother round about,
The happy sunshine bringing -
You'd see her bustle in and out,
A-working and a-singing;

And then the soul of Casey's place,
The love, the light, the laughter,
When friendship showed its cheery face,
And music shook the rafter;
And many a lad went home to find
A haunting sweet vagary
Was rambling softly through his mind
Because of Laughing Mary.

But when the smiling stars were blurred,
And someone's heart was bleeding,
She flew as flies the homing bird,
With balms of comfort speeding.
An angel in a sweet disguise,
She filled the measure over,
While tears stood sparkling in her eyes
Like raindrops on the clover;

And many a head bowed low to pray,
Howe'er her skies might vary,
The years would bless her on her way

Re:Only Beautiful Things Reply to this message
God Bless my computer

Every evening
As I'm laying here in bed
This tiny little prayer
Keeps running through my head

God bless my mom and dad
And bless my little pup
And look out for my brother
When things aren't looking up

And God, there's one more thing
I wish that you could do
Hope you don't mind me asking
But please bless my computer too?

Now I know that's not normal
To bless a mother board
But just listen a second
While I explain to you 'My Lord'

You see, that little metal box
Holds more to me than odds and ends
Inside those small compartments
Rest a hundred of my 'BEST FRIENDS'

Some it's true I've never seen
And most I've never met
We've never exchanged hugs
Or shared a meal as yet....

I know for sure they like me
By the kindness that they give
And this little scrap of metal
Is how I travel to where they live

By faith is how I know them
Much the same as you
I share in what life brings them
From that our friendship grew

"PLEASE" Take an extra minute
From your duties up above
To bless this scrap of metal
That's filled with so much love!

A few nice Love Quotes;

True love is like a ghost; everyone talks of it, few have seen it.

Eating Poetry

Ink runs from the corners of my mouth.
There is no happiness like mine.
I have been eating poetry.

The librarian does not believe what she sees.
Her eyes are sad
and she walks with her hands in her dress.

The poems are gone.
The light is dim.
The dogs are on the basement stairs and coming up.

Their eyeballs roll,
their blond legs burn like brush.
The poor librarian begins to stamp her feet and weep.

She does not understand.
When I get on my knees and lick her hand,
she screams.

I am a new man.
I snarl at her and bark.
I romp with joy in the bookish dark.

Re:Only Beautiful Things Reply to this message
Profound Truths About Women
Have you ever been in a conversation with someone - and they say something so profound, so dead-on, something that touches you in your core - that you stop what you're doing and just stand there with a stupid look on your face?

That's exactly what happened to me the other day. I was riding in the car talking to my sister. We were discussing why so many more women today have children without a traditional family. They make the decision - I want a child - I want to be a mother - whether there is a husband or guy at all. Often times, there isn't. Modern technology makes is easier with sperm banks and other options for women to say "I'm not going to miss this - I want to experience motherhood" no matter what their relationship status.

I was just curious as to the motivation - what drives these women to make this choice? To bring children into their world?

My sister thought for second and said, "I think it's because so many women feel alone in the world."

Wow - I almost couldn't speak - I felt this phrase so powerfully in my solar plexus.

"so many women feel alone in the world."

It was one of those profound truths that just knocks you flat. Perhaps because I felt it personally, but also because I think I tapped into some universal pain.

Women want children in their lives so there is someone to share their lives with - someone who will take care of them - someone they can build a family with, a community with.

And something clicked inside my little pea brain. There is a TV commercial for Weight Watchers that I believe is brilliant. The first time I saw it it practically jumped out at me. The copy was so dead on - the images - but the music.......I thought the music was an odd choice - it was Cher's "Song for the Lonely". I thought - why would they have a song with lyrics about being lonely??

"so many women feel alone in the world"

Re:Only Beautiful Things Reply to this message
I think I found it interesting as an example of a profound truth from Holly Buchanan's perspective - for myself I'm single and live alone except for my pet but I don't feel lonely because the soiltude was my choice.... I love children but I don't desire to be a mother.

It was more the definition of a profound truth that I was searching for...one that would be more in sync with my thoughts.

Do you have any thoughts around that Milo?

Re:Only Beautiful Things Reply to this message
All people, men or women, seek to share this life?

sbreeze..."We were discussing why so many more women today have children without a traditional family. My take on that sbreeze.....is joy that women are not forced into dependency on men in order TO HAVE AND KEEP their own children...women cannot 'leave' during pregnancy, they are committed by nature for 9 months!

Society is now reflecting the truths of nature?

'Traditional families' were perhaps NOT!
They were social dictates overruling nature's?

I agree Reid and will more than likely agree on whatever views are posted but I found it interesting, that from a simple albeit very specific comment Holly Buchanan *saw* a "profound" truth...I was hoping to have it defined so that I could *see* it too.

What was it that stopped her in her tracks?
