I was a little lucky with the car in which I learned to drive.....my father's Mark 5 Jaguar.
Then it went downhill....or did it?
My first car was a Fiat 500.
Very different to the Jaguar, but still a favourite of mine.
The Jaguar would do 160km/h on the Silver City Highway south of Broken Hill.....the Fiat was flat out at 100km/h.
Anyway, the worst car I owned was a Torana Sunbird, closely followed by a Marina Six.
The Marina would actually skip sideways from a few ripples in the road surface. |

| Oh God my little triumph dolomite sprint, it was cute and fast, but such high maintenance... had to rip half the thing out just to get the battery the engine bay was so small and cramped. |

| brand new Lancer bought about 1997, which kept kangaroo hopping, stopping altogether etc etc . Couldn't get it righted so had to cut losses and get rid of it. Now have Subaru Impreza and don't think I'd ever buy anything but Subaru - so reliable and well-made. PS: the Lancer model I had was later recalled!!! |

I've loved all my cars.
Started with a '69 Hillman Hunter that you couldn't kill with a truck. Moved on to a '71 Transit Van that someone had shoe-horned a 302W into. That was a barrel of fun! Next car was an '85 Facon Panel Van that took me everywhere and gave me somewhere to sleep on more than one occasion. Eventually traded it in on a '93 Fairmont. Like the Hillman, it kept on running no matter how hard or far I pushed it. I've now got a '97 Futura that I bought off an old guy. It's only got 63k km's on it and looks brand new.
Not a bad car in the lot. |

Laughs, most car parts I have got was because I had to have them, although I did do all the stripping and buffing to have one of my cars repainted, not easy work lol. Right now me and hubby share a car, but working on getting my own, I have a thing for Jeeps and VW's, am I the only one here who likes punch buggies lol. |

Hubby and I have had a pretty good run with cars so far.
My first car, a Datsun Bluebird provided me with cheap and reliable motoring for five years. I've only had to replace the gear box, distributor and starter motor (all cheap from wreckers) and had the radiator fixed (also cheap).
Hubby's first car, a HJ Premier, never missed a beat.
Hubby's second car; a toyota hilux was also very reliable, we didn't have to get anything replaced. Just the regular service.
My second car: Nissan Skyline. Had to have new shock absorbers and a new exhaust but that was it. Very reliable and enjoyable motoring. It met its end in a sad way when it wa *** by a truck while parked. Talk about a waste of a good car. I had bought it with only 130,000 on the odometer while most skylines were double that, and it was a manual. A rare find.
The skyline got replaced by a Subaru L series station wagon, which I still drive. It's been pretty reliable but, by gee, it runs rough, and parts cost an arm and a leg! A wheel hub had to be replaced, which cost $800! Then it broke down a few months ago and the mechanic said the valves would be bent and the engine would need a rebuild. We decided to sell it as is instead, and then buy another car. We handed the plates in, put the car in the trading post and then someone came along and fixed it for us. THe problem? It wasn't timed right.
The cost to fix it? $150.
The cost to get it roadworthied again and back on the road? Two grand!
Subarus are waaay too expensive to maintain!
Our other car is a Toyota prius, which is cheaper to service than the suby, and hubby has just bought a Suzuki Vitara, so the suby will have to move on soon. Good riddance. Fingers crossed that the vitara is a goodie. |

| Anything blue. Three cars painted blue and three accidents none of which were our fault. We had a blue EH and an idiot backed into us at a red light! We painted a Torana blue and a fool ran into us - T-boned us when coming out of a STOP sign. Next blue car - guy ran up our rear end while we sat a stop light! None of the other cars were red either so I guess they weren't aggressive drivers (according to stats!). |
