Depends on the Pub, at a nice Pub,for a meal yes.
To go and get shattered in the public bar or the beer garden No.
Not that I do the latter anyway.. have seen others sit there for hours drinking, kids are bored, cold and hungry... still they drink, not a good look, begs the question too, how are they all travelling home? |

| Pansi we all know what heppened Hon, leave it alone it's not your barrow... this place is starting to get scary with all of the people taking on issues that are not their own, and thinking it's OK to follow people about the boards harrasing them. Peace out. |

No harrassment from me, just reminding melli that were all responsible for our own actions.
It's a public service.... |

I only had 2 drinks, a meal...this and were in and out within two hours. We went there to watch a friend play his harmonica in a band, and for a meal.
Just some pubs are more family friendly than others I guess:) |

| sounds fine to me, I often do the same when my buddies play, it's good for her to see others play(my girl is into music) I make sure we leave before people get rowdy and feral though... don't want her seeing that, and I choose the pub carefully too. |

I've been to a couple of pubs on Friday/Saturday nights (the big nights) and kids are still running around at about 10pm and later...that's too late...
But on a quiet night with an early end is ok...also depends on the age of the kids |

Personally, I think there should be a nation wide pub curfew where kids are concerned....8:30 tops!!
:) Some parents are responsible, and go there with good intentions, however, some parents just don't know when enoughs enough! |

Probably... if if I had kids.
Dad used to take us to the pub and the soccer club when we were young. We were always entertained, there were pool tables, game machines, and a whole soccer pitch to entertain ourselves on. On top of that we'd play out in the dirt.
Though I can imagine now, the very mention of taking children to a pub is in some peoples opinion, child abuse. All I know is we were never ever made to feel threatened at the pub. Never assaulted physically, verbally or sexually, Dad kept an eye on us, but let us do our own thing. We enjoyed the atmosphere and enjoyed playing with the other kids.
In a bar where it's standing room only, well then it's not really appropriate to take children, is it? I think it depends on the venue. |

Yes Busy nights and later than 8pm, nup no go, too many people getting trashed and behaving badly...
I don't want my daughter seeing people drinking too much swearing and carrying on.
What would happen if someone got aggro? very frightening for a little one.
Use your discretion, trust your instincts, if the mood is not good, get out of there before it's too late.
It's your call to take risks when it's just you, but when there are kid's about err on the side of caution.. that's my motto anyways :) |

Totally agree.... and think only where there is a beer garden , a decent sized one. Perhaps the government should think about licensing laws re- kids, ensure that a premises is a suitable environment before permitting kids.
Some parents are incapable of ascertaining whether or not an environment is suitable.
And perhaps some of the more decent establishments should start thinking about making their premises more family friendly.

| Some kids like my brother loved going to the pub with mum and dad and the uncles. I hated it because I was a reader; can't read at a pub. My brother would often make friends with other kids so he was fine. We almost always hung around beer gardens rather than inside so at least we could run around and stuff. Mum always stayed sober so she could drive, and luckily for us my dad and the uncles who usually came with us (because they lived with us) are all pretty happy drunks so it's not like any one of them bashed us. We were always kept far away from the bad drunks and I don't ever remember being in physical danger at any time we were at a pub during my childhood. |

| We have a pub which is really great for kids in our area, quite often all the friendly parents from school catch up there, it's a family pub, the pulic bar cannot be seen from the bistro.. and is a long way off anyway, the food is really nice, and there is a great fenced play area outside for the kiddies to run about in. |

That sounds fantastic Leethal.... we have one family friendly pub in this area...but yours sounds even better. This one doesn't have a fenced play area, but like yours, the kids cant see the bar from the beer garden, and due to it being right across the road from the local primary school...yes, many parents catch up there , especially when the school holds discos. I have only ever been to 2 pubs in my life...the first one was a month or so ago whilst the kids were at the school disco....(is where we all went to sit)...the other time was the other night I mentioned earlier.
Such a contrast! :) |

| I believe its ok to take a child in to a pub for a counter lunch, but children don't belong in a pub of a night time. I don't have any children and when i go to the pub in the evening, I don't expect to have to put up with someones Else's children running around madly, which I find totally annoying. |

I was thinking, perhaps if they changed the laws so as to make them either family or public hotels?
This way, people could make more informed choices about where they go after work for a drink if they didn't want to be bothered by kids.
