Giving Up Smoking Reply to this message
Well for the first time in twenty three years i have not had a cigarette in a week!!!!!!!!! I was the typical HEAVY smoker and with the help of the new drug Cham *** (had to write like this apparently putting both these words together is offensive language) both my fiance and i have given up. Thankfully we have had no side effects from the drugs but would love to know if anyone else who has used the drug has started smoking again after going off them. We want to know what to avoid lol. Please tell us your experiences.

Re:Giving Up Smoking Reply to this message
12 months since i have a ciggie,

was a heavy smoker of aprox 30 to 40 per day,

and i can happily say i smoke no more,

i told myself evreyday that i was stronger than the cigarette and when i had a "wave" as i call them,

its like a wave of anxiety that flushes over you i sweated and shook and felt very on edge,

i took a few deep breaths and said to myself it will be over in a minuite,

i still get the occasional wave now,

but all i have to do is stand next to a smoker and that fixes the problem,

i think i dont want to smell like stale smoke it really is gross,

i know, nothing worse than a reformed smoker, i used to say the same but really it is gross..:P

The only way I could give up smoking is to be put in a padded cell for 6 months because everything else has not worked.

Re:Giving Up Smoking Reply to this message
I used Zyban. Not sure if its related chemically to the one your using.
I have been a non- smoker now since 20/11/01.
No side effects except for total lack of wanting to smoke!

Good Luck!

Re:Giving Up Smoking Reply to this message
My boyfriend used Zyban and once he finished the dose he stopped completely.. the only side effect he ever got was whacky dreams..

If you want something to put you off going back to smoking maybe keep a piece of clothing you havent washed that smells of your 30 - 40 packs of ciggies a day.. that would sure put me off touching another one..

Re:Giving Up Smoking Reply to this message
I was a serious smoker....50-60 a day girl. Geez I musta stunk!

Within the first 2 weeks I'd cut down to half. At 4 weeks I was down to less than 10 a day.

In my 7th and 8th week I was under 3 a day. Just left my unfinished one in the ashtray to puff on a few times during the day...yeah unpleasant, but habit kept me coming back.

One morning I went outside for my morning puff and it made me ill, tasted bad, and that was that!

Finito.

Re:Giving Up Smoking Reply to this message
I quit cold turkey two and a half years ago.

I had wanted to improve my health and started going to a gym. I found that, as my fitness improved, my body needed its lungspace back, so the smoeks began to taste bad.

It took a couple of months to mentally prepare myself, which I spent telling myself "what a silly habit", "why am I even smoking, I don't need these!" etc etc. Every time I lit one up, I'd feel silly for doing so.

Then I finished my packet and stopped smoking.

I started again a couple of months ago (a few stresses), but have now joined a gym again, and quit smoking again last week.

Re:Giving Up Smoking Reply to this message
Good for you.

I had come to the time where I had too. 3 chest infections in 3 months, plus the fact I'm asthmatic, didnt help.

Took the first year to clean out the cr@p in my lungs, and for the constant craving to "smoke". Not so much the inhalation, but the actions of smoking.

Looking back now, it was the best thing I did now..

Re:Giving Up Smoking Reply to this message
Its hard, damn hard, but definately worth the heartache to quit!
The best way to quit is to simply stop lighting the bloody things!
After 10 days, it gets easier.
For you people that are "putting it off" or "psyching yourselves up"...hey, I strongly suggest you go to your nearest hospital and have a look thru a couple of wards where they care for cancer sufferes......
Spend some time with someone who is dying from cancer, spend some time with their family........
Its not just yourself you are killing slowly, but your family has to go thru it as well.........
I used to smoke 30-40 per day, every day, like I said, its hard to quit, but believe me, its EASIER quitting, because you have the choice NOW, than it is to suffer CANCER, where you dont have a choice.
Not many people survive cancer, chemo, radiation, surgery, regression, more chemo, more radiation, then a slow lingering death where you waste away, its not a pretty site.
FFS, get off the smokes, if not for yourself, do it for your partner, children, parents, siblings........
The pics you see on smoke packs, have a good long hard look at em, pick up your pack now and study the pic for 10 minutes or so, that could be YOU in a couple of months.

Re:Giving Up Smoking Reply to this message
Cold turkey is the best way. This only works if you really want to quit.
As for those pictures on the back of packs. I see that everyday. My dad is a walking advert for quitting.
I havnt had a ciggie in 5 years.
Every so often I still feel like I would enjoy one but my kids would be very dissapointed in me if I gave in:))
