| this theory would also work in relation to the jin/sun language barrier. when they talk to each other we get subtitles because THEY know what theyre saying and can recall it. when they (later JIn only) talk to the other survivors, we dont get subtitles because the other survivors dont know what they are saying and therefore cant recall it. |

Good point WTTC. Well spotted. Isnt it strange how Jin seems to have grasped a very good understanding of English even though his spoken words are quite limited. He appears to understand a lot of whats going on around him and responding accordingly despite a lot of people talking all at once.
Something that has been niggling at me since the phonecall with Michael saying Walt wasnt supposed to be his. Was there an episode where they did DNA testing to prove his paternity or did I just hallucinate that one. Anyone remember? |

| i can't recall such episode. I believe there is a common link between all the survivors on the island. There must be one, day after day, they show us how they have spoken to each other previously even for a little time or at least once. |

alrighty, I've gone through the first 3 podcasts and my chair ain't a comfortable as it was ealier on...
srsen - in regards to Jack's facial hair, there is an ep in season one at teh caves where Jack is having a shave. Also, they do address Jack's hair in the podcast (heh heh)
Micro, you memtioned what they would focus on for each season, in a later podcast (might do that one tomorrow) they say that season 7 will be the zombie season (again - heh heh) (they're really funny podcasts!!)
Also, Jin being able to get a fair understanding of the English language quickly, has anyone seen the movie 'The 13th Warrior'?? With Antonio Banderas as an Arab who goes on a 'mission' with Vikings to hunt a monster that is attacking a village in their homeland - he picks up their language after a while by listening and paying attention to what they say and who they say it.
But enough of that, he's what i picked out for you guys...
Podcast 1
If you're a new fan can you still join in and experience lost? The answer is no, absolutely not, you've missed the train completely!
(A brief recap of season 1 by Damon) - There's a plane crash, there's a lot of people on it, they're scared for a while. The island, there's like a, monster on there, it scares them, there's weird stuff happening, Walt gets taken by some others on the boat. That's pretty much all the important stuff. Oh yeah - Kate and Sawyer kiss.
Answering fan questions -
How many seasons do you have the plot marked out for?
'We know what we're doing next week on the show!'
They liken it to a road trip - knowing what cities they want to go to, but not sure it the car will run out of gas, take a different route...
'We do have a general plan of where we're going but I think what keeps the show organic and real is the fact that we write it episode by episode and we feed a lot off what the show tells us, the relationships between characters... certain pieces of mythology the audience really responds to... ther ... |

Podcast 2
'There’s more to be learnt about the black rock, and why it came to be in the middle of the island and how it relates to the story'
Question
Were the various wrecks and strandings on the island caused by the same thing?"
(Damon) "Wow, that's a big one. I would say, sort of globally, yes, they are caused by the same thing, what that thing is, is just as mysterious as why there's a high incidence of crashes in the area that's the Bermuda Triangle, but I think that, the reason that the island draws people and things to it is a universal thing as opposed to a series of arbitrary things or accidents... sort of answering it without really answering it... which is pretty much all we can do'
Question
Some folks analyse every minute detail of the show, is this really necessary to understand the plot of the show for example if one doesn't read the third Policeman will it affect their overall understanding of the show?
Damon- (laughing) - neither of us have read the Third Policeman. We know what it's about though, and we hear it's very good.
Carlton- one of the writers on the show had read the Third Policeman ... but we haven't read it so you probably don't have to read it
Damon - Carlton and I only read books with pictures in it
Carlton - you really don't, there are a lot of minute details ... you can enjoy they show on any level
Podcast 3
(About The Other 48 Days) - when we were first coming up with this idea
That there were tail section survivors... one of the things that was very important to us was that their experience was really vastly different than our fuselage survivors...
... What they find (in the Arrow station) in the crate there, one of the things they find, and it's not the radio, [the glass eye] is very important to the unfolding of the story to come over the next couple of episodes, so you won't have to wait too long for that to pay off. The items on that trunk were not randomly chosen - except for the blankets (laughing) in fu ... |

...The items on that trunk were not randomly chosen - except for the blankets (laughing) in future episode, Eko will be kept warm by the blanket, it's a shocking surprise - the big cliffhanger is his feet are cold!!
Questions
It seems as if the writers on the show are big movie buffs, what are some of the movies that have influenced you and this show?
Damon - there are so many. Every opportunity we get we rip off something we like we pretty much jump at it. When JJ and I first had our first meeting, a variety of movie references started flying around, Fifty First Dates, American Pie, Lassie, the film version... a lot of science fiction movies came up, we talked a lot about Aliens, episodes of the Twilight Zone, we talked a lot about the Crichton word, what Michael Crichton does in movies like Jurassic Park or West World, the Andromeda Strain, is that he takes basically science fiction concepts and brings them into the real world, which is sort of what we always wanted to do on Lost, so those movies certainly influenced the formation of the show.. There are a lot of television and book influences as well, I think both of us have to give a big shout out to Stephen King, (laughing) we've basically stolen The Stand and put it on an island! Stephen King is so artful at blending science fiction concepts or horror concepts with really compelling character stories and I think that that is so much a model for what we're doing on the show. Those books of his that sustain for 800 - 1000 pages, not because of the mythology of the stories but because the characters are so damn cool. You've got to make it about the people... |

Question
All the men's hair on Lost has grown significantly since the first episode except Jack's and Locke, but he doesn't count. Is Jack balding or something, he's only forty i think, just wondering?
Jack is not balding, nor is he forty. I think one of the things that has been postulated is that one of the Dharma stations is actually a hair research clinic or some sort that is putting out microwaves...
...One of the secret mythological tidbits is that with this hair research, that's how they’re going to raise the money to continue the Dharma Initiative... cure for baldness... and for some reason these microwaves affect Jack in a more severe way more than anyone else on the island and it also affects the underarms of the women on the show. |

WOW! You girls (and guys) are truly amazing! And not to mention HILARIOUS! Ahahahaha *COUGH COUGH CHOKE*
Anyway:
TMT said a little while back “why do they keep saying the plane split in half? there were 3 bits. did anyone survive from the front or did they all end up tree ornaments like the pilot did??”
Well I think maybe there was a flight attendant or two up in the front section ~ maybe involved with Dharma. What do you think?
ALSO:
clover_kitty17 said “the show is so opened ended there's so many ways they could go with it.” -not true! Every single little clue they give us surely can only add up to one ending. I mean, there are a lot of great theories going around (mainly from you guys, not being biased or anything!) but there usually seems to be even sometimes just one thing that doesn’t fit. Would the writers put the one (or more) thing in if it didn’t fit? Am I making sense or just babbling on like an old lady?
Well, I am very impressed with everyone's contribution to this retirement village, now does anyone know where I left my knitting needles? |

i've been hunting around, and if anyone can say otherwise, please do, but i can't for the life of me find anything on the 104th Airborne Division that fought in the Gulf War.
Hurey said, after Sayid mentioned he fought in the Gulf War, that he had a friend in the 104th Airborne...
http://www.lost-tv.com/transcripts/Pilot_Lost.htm
HURLEY: How do you know how to do all that?
SAYID: I was a military communications officer.
HURLEY: Oh yeah? You ever see battle?
SAYID: I fought in the Gulf War.
HURLEY: No way. I have a buddy who fought over there. He was in the 104th Airborne. What were you, Air force, Army?
SAYID: The Republican Guard.
I've found the 101st Airborne and the 104th Infantry but no 104th Airborne.
http://www.answers.com/main/ntquery?method=4&dsid= 2222&dekey=Formations+of+the+United+States+Army&cu rtab=2222_1
Is there anyone out there who knows a bit about the military??
Could Hurley have gotten it wrong??
It's bothering me. |

No I didnt think that the creators have given that information out, just hopeing that someone out there might have seen something on some site.
I posted this theory on another thread a while back but notice that it was reffrenced in the begining of this thread (not claiming it though, as i am sure someone else posted it before me)I am of the thoery that all passengers are linked by the fact that their actions have caused some ones death, either directly or indirectly. If you look at the way the flashbacks go Kate, Anna, Jack and i bet if Mr eko was a drug dealer before a priest, indirectly causing death through drugs and so on..........Its just a theory. |

Hey Ian, or is it John playing tonight? That would have been me plying you with alcohol last night and everyone else who still up! Just took me ages to read thru all this. What do I think....... Good one Microlost, but there are still some unexplained holes in the theory.Eg what is the connection with the hospital? 104th Airborne maybe American or even Australian. I used to work for the Army long time ago, not in it, civilian employee and the Unit rings a bell...so Sayid may have been playing double agent over in the Gulf, for CIA and/or Asio?? Not sure about that one???
Doesn't explain the numbers really either. Have to chew this one over. I'm out of Scotch, champas......microlost you were supposed to be shouting the Drambuie tonight! |
