Ok, here's what I've been thinking about the last week and a bit. I'm going to try and lay it out in an easy-to-understand way but I have a feeling it will get confusing so bear with me....
You oldies know who you are.....your comments and additions (because some of you are pro's at this!) are what I'm after, and anyone else who can jump into the thread without having to go over OLD information that can be found in other threads on this site. |

I think most people have been getting really side-tracked and carried away with all these "clues" we have. I've started to wonder if that's been done on purpose, because the creators (or whoever they are) have intentionally put info on the web, for people like us who spend waaaaayyyy too much time thinking about this TV show. So here's my basic breakdown in point form, followed by any questions/ideas I have.
1. The plane crashed on the island - it's becoming obvious this was no "accident", but staged. The black smudges we can see in slow-mo have something to do with this. I AM NOT TALKING ABOUT THE BLACK SMOKE THAT TAKES LOCKE INTO THE HATCH & APPEARS TO ENTER JACK'S HEAD, OR THE BLACK SMOKE THAT MR EKO SEES. This is something different. Question - so what are these black smudges? Possible Theory - something to do with the paranormal research being conducted on the island. The smudges are some sort of "consciousness" - collective or individual - that has certain abilities. Question - is this something to do with the Others, or something/someone entirely different?
2. Somehow, at least the main characters, are all connected in some way. It's been suggested they are all connected through the hospital, and I've also seen it suggested here (sorry, can't remember who it was so can't give the credit where it's due) that they are all connected through death in some way. I've only just started thinking about this connection so don't have any firm ideas and it could get complicated. There are also some connections that go back in time to other family memebers. ie: Kate's Dad & Sayid, Sawyer & Kate's Mum (brief but still there), Locke working for Hurley's Box Company etc. There are other connections too. Question - Are these connections really important? If yes, why why why?
3. We are being given major hints that the main survivors at least have been "selected" to be on the island - D.H.A.R.M.A. Question - WHY have they been selected? |

Ok brain just shut down on my points (it's late) - will have to go back to that but I have a few questions to add.
SO, we know D.H.A.R.M.A. is organised by the De Groots for certain areas of research, and is funded by the Hanso Foundation. Are they linked to the Armed Forces? It's been suggested on other websites, so I don't know how legit it is, that Alvar Hanso is a defence force contractor. Does that explain the US Army knife Goodwin had?
Another question regarding time - are they in the "now" or in the future? Someone started a time line but I don't think it got finished or it got too confusing to figure out.
The Whispers - are they echos from underground tunnels and surveillance points? Or are they something paranormal?
The Others - I think there are 2 groups of Others. The main group, whoever they are, and a "silent uprising" of "good" Others that are working against the main group, the "bad" Others. Not too fussed about them because I don't think they're a main focus in the story, they're just the result of something on the island, which is the important thing - whatever it may be.
Why was Walt taken? For his psychic powers. Did his stepdad know something? |

| And my main big question - WHY WOULD THIS GROUP OF PEOPLE BE INTERESTING TO RESEARCHERS? |

And sorry to be a pain in the bum but I don't think there are any really out-there explanations ie: clones (although I'm not against it, I just don't like it), or they're being given a second chance, or they're in a parallel universe (again, not against it, just don't like it). I think it will be something that in the end we'll go "woah you know, that could really happen....".
Ok that's it, I'm out of here!
I'm so over chocolate. |

Kezrach I would like to apply for a villa in your Retirement Village. Payment has been left at reception.
I wonder whether all our heroes were Hanso subjects, which when born or when young were "rescued", by someone/s and farmed out to adoptive parents to raise in a normal environment. Hanso has kept track on their development and now gathered them onto the island. What for? What was the intention of "breeding" them and what is the ultimate aim? Hanso was also researching twins....could they be one part there of? Could they all have certain powers that are yet to become apparent? Perhaps their lives need to be purged first. Walt is a child and therefore not as tainted by life as the adults, he is also aware of his ability I think. There are quite frequent connections with the parents, so perhaps one or both of their parents were aware of the plan for them. I think Walt's stepdad is suss, Kate's Mum, Locke's Dad, Sun's dad, Jack's dad, Ana's Mum, etc etc. Were they all paid by Hanso to raise these ppl? |

Perhaps they're not there to be researched at all. Maybe they're being recruited.
But then, why? |

| ok going with the parents thing, lockes mum said that he was "special", "important" etc. she spent time in a mental home but maybe she aint as crazy as everyone thinks. if all the people on the island were/ are researched then they would be deemed "special" and "important". |

yay! im back and the retirement village looks great! top job hehe
ok i like this thread. filter out the dumb stuff. and i have one answer and more questons tho. is the rule for Lost i think.
the Balck smudges that are flying round the crashed plane. i THINK i know what these are. well, the more you watch that opening scene with the crash the more black smudges you start noticing. at first you'll think they are birds, but then you'll realise that no birds have been seen flying around the island since(except for one raven), but there were so many when the plane crashed. ok now it has been said that the writers drew inspiration from STephen Kinfs The Stand in certain parts fo the story. read below about Ravens in The Stand, then i will continue |

| Among Flagg's many supernatural abilities is his ability to shape-shift. He can assume several forms, but his favorite seems to be the raven. The very first frame of the first installment of the miniseries shows a raven perched atop a fencepost at the biological research facility, implying that Flagg oversaw the downfall of society from the very beginning. Ravens can be seen throughout the miniseries, perched atop telephone poles, fences, and buildings. They are especially prevalent in the first installment of the miniseries as society breaks down. Every time a raven appears, it gives the viewer the impression that Flagg is somehow present and watching what is going on, giving him some degree of omnipotence. The raven has long been enshrouded in mystery and death. King is certainly not the first writer to use it as a symbol- their size in relation to other birds, along with their black color and the fact that they are carrion-eaters makes them an obvious choice for personifying death and destruction. However, King plays upon another trait of ravens in The Stand; namely, that they are fairly common in the United States. It is not difficult to find them in any part of the country. By using a raven as Flagg's shape of choice, King ensures that nobody who watches The Stand will ever be able to see a raven perched atop a telephone pole without being reminded of Randall Flagg's watchful eye. |

So Flagg is the bad guy in the The Stand. i think it is entirely plausible that the Lost writer borrowed this idea. we only ever see a Raven in the Dark Territory and there is a vibe around that it is important. i think the Ravens are the islands eyes. they can shape shift themselves intot eh blurry smudgy type objects we see creating the explosions. they could even be the Other themselves getting around and seeing all.
ok, the Armed Forces tie-in. i think that is a definiate. Kates dad is in the Army and has a curious red star on the right shoulder of his uniform, doesnt look like standard army patch. maybe Lost does have something to do with the world having ended and the Island is the rebuilder of life. the Temple, just like in Ekos story to Locke. if thats true, all remaininbg military would be involved.
the Twins idea: yeah i think each survivor had/has a twin. maybe the survivors have always been on the island and the memories they are having is those of their twin. or their twin is replacing them in real life. it is a big chance i rekon!
and yeah maybe they do have powers, hence their selection, and the island is a means to cleanse them so their powers can be unleashed.maybe they have Twins on the real world so nobody misses them/realises they are gone, and they are left on the island to develope their powers for a higher purpose. to 'reach their potential'... any merit in this idea |

sorry, five days of posting to catch up on.
ok so continuing my theory i just had. maybe the parents were all paid off by what they 'thought' was the army to sacrafice one of their twin children. all the parents who are involved arent exactly the most moral people. think about it. the things they say to their kids, the way they treat em. its almost as if they knew these children were 'throw aways'. so maybe they were paid off. lost a child. that child got taken to the island to be put 'on ice' (Desmond "what did one snowman say to the other snowman?" i think the answer would have been 'hello brother' but anyway) yeah frozen, yet left to grow then somehow swapped with the plane crash people. what im trying to say is, the world outside the island never knew about flight 815 maybe. we have NO proof they do. the flight was simply a means to get the 'special' people to the island and (i bet ya) to fly the fake/twin people out of the island and back into society to continue Jacks life and Lockes life and Chalries life etc. then their powers would be developed overtime for a purpose we dont yet know. thats why theres a monster, to speed up the process of facing their fears and growing so their power can be realised. 'they're not the survivors they think they are' cant figure how, but this ties in here. |

oh, dont know if i said this alreayd.. i rekon Claire had twins and one was removed for the purpose i just said. maybe to be sent back into the world to grow, and Aaron will be put on ice later perhaps.
maybe that explaions the incidnet. someone contacted the outside world, someone in the outside world realised that there was another one of them on an island somewhere and the cover was blown and hence something happened. the 108 button thing is there simply to stop them using the computer to do this again. come on guys, help me fill gaps. im really liking this idea. |

Love the retirement village Kezrach. Hope you accept my application even though I'm fairly new to the board. I'm in W.A so I'll be later to see tonights recap episode. Question, is this episode put together by the Lost producers or a channel 7 hotchpotch. If it's by the producers then I believe that they would include the most important info for us to mull over. Otherwise it's just a channel 7 "spin out the series a bit longer ploy" Re the placement of important characters on the plane by Dharma or the "there was no crash" theory. How did Dharma get rid of the rest of the passengers on the flight? And..re the twins to replace those in the outside, wouldn't Dharma have to create twins for the unimportant characters as well to ensure they were not missed by the outside? Like the idea though!
Pureed carrots and a game of bingo anyone? |

This place is great! I love everyone’s new ideas!
Just seeing the film again, with the new splice, the picture doesn’t seem to change, whereas the pictures on this site http://www.lostmysteries.com/pics.html (Careful, there’s SPOILERS further down the page!) show numerous differences...What’s with that?
micro: I heard that JJ came to Aus and he decided to film the episode here! Please correct me if I'm wrong!
P.S. I’m up for the game! |

kezrach in reply to your statement not sure when it is set, i am pretty sure it is set in the year 2009, to support this in asome of the oceanic air sites it says copyrite bla bla bla 2009 and also i have an interesting picture i found on one of the oceanic air sites there was a link to island cam with a pic of the island with some text down the bottom stating the temperature (34.979f if any one was wondering) and most importantly the date, wed jan 11 15:42 GT 2009.
also in the very top left hand corner it has a tiny glimpse of the tail of an oceanic plane.
i have recently gone back to that site but the cam pic has changed. ( it changes every now and then) it has some weird pik i am yet to decipher.
if anyone is wondering the site is http://www.oceanicworldair.com

Thanks Juzzy! I used to check that website out nearly every day, but then we moved and I forgot about it (we had dial-up for a while and it was very temperamental). The whole website has changed - it used to have the Oceanic banner across the top of the page, and you could see the tail end of the plane, a raft, and a column of black smoke...and I never noticed the link to a webcam.
So thanks for bringing that back up!
Someone also mentioned in another post, that the plane they were on was a Boeing 777, and the most current model at the moment is a 767. I don't know if this is true, but if it is, very interesting. Further suggests it is in the near-ish future. |
