I was bored so I thought I'd start watching Seasons again. I noticed something really obvious now that wasn't until this season finale! Watch John and focus on what he says and does. It is like he was aware of the island and everyone else straight away, like he's been there before and met everyone before. It's like he's a "God" like figure guiding everyone. He says things like he knows Hurley, Jack, Claire etc.
It's got me thinking maybe he was dead the whole time and he was "smokey" the whole time...... It would explain things said and done by John. Watch Season 1 and let me know what you think! It's quite amazing! |

| It would explain some of the things, but possibly not all. What about when he found the hatch and couldn't get it to open? And how he screamed out "Why?" after Boone's death? And how he was left mute after the hatch implosion, and had that vision in the smoke tent? (BTW, maybe it was Boone in his vision who was Smokey). Just a thought. I agree that it's important to go over everything to do with Locke again, because everything has a new significance to it when looked at after the season 5 finale. |

I would hate it if Locke has always just been the puppet of Jacob's nemesis, but yeah, what you are saying is especially noticable in season 1: He knows so much, about the Island etc...it's scary how much he knows.
Oh and I suggest you rewatch the episode "Hearts and Minds", there's a scene in it where Jack and Locke are sitting on the beach talking...see if it looks/sounds familiar at all, alah season 5 finale? |

| I have started watching the first season again too, just to see what now links up with the latest season and Locke knowing so much has had me wondering. There were a couple of times that he predicted when it was going to rain. I mean how can he know that? Also I think he has been leading the group since the beginning but making Jack look like he is making the decisions. what do you think? |

The part that really had me convinced was making the cot for Aaron, it was like he knew it was her birthday, every important statement that is made by someone like they are revealing something he always does a "mmmmm" type response like "I know, I really do know" always seems to have a smile on his face - almost gloating. When he is talking to people about what he "thinks" he seems so definate and 100% of what is supposed to happen/faith/destiny. Someone that knows more than what he should could be so definate in his ways and talking. When Jack has hold of him over the big pipe that he was getting pulled into he says "just let me go, I'll be alright".
He always seems to point people into there major decision making... Asking questions that haze the fact that it lead them quite obviously to the right answer or path he wants them to go on. He tells them what to do and is quite manipulating to make things happen his way.
Trying to open the Hatch "this was supposed to work!" he answers a lot of "the island will tell us" what if the reason why the bad things happen is the island is somewhat punishing John or trying to get him back on track. I'm not entirely sure bout the relationship with him and the island but there is one - definately more explainable if you look at it as a relationship between "smokey John" and the island/Jacob, seems more plausible rather than the island and a stranger with a link of some kind. The island makes "smokey John" loose his feeling/use in his legs/speach to lead "smokey john" to a certain event and to make sure John doesn't change the events - Eg. Boone in the old drug airplain, john looses the use of his legs before they explore more.
It makes sense why he can walk now without a wheelchair, gets hurt and heals so quicky, its cause he's not alive and not the same john as he was before the crash on the island (his personality does seem to be more intense than what you see in the flashbacks which are quite gentle and dopey). |

| That makes sense, but what has me puzzled is how the body of the real John Locke ended up in Ilana's crate. For them to have had his body on the plane, dressed the same as when Jack saw him in the coffin, he had to have been on the mainland. Surely it wasnt' smokey-John who went around as Jeremy Bentham. And if the theory is that the real John Locke was dead all along (from the crash of 815), how come the body looks so fresh 3 years down the track? Certainly there have been times over the years where Locke has seemed too knowing and in control, but there have also times when he has been despairing and totally helpless. And that mention of Locke being dragged down the hole raises another point - can Smokey take two different forms at the same time (e.g. Smokey dragging a Smokey-Locke down the hole)? |

| I have posted in another thread that I also thought that John died after the initial plane crash (Ep 1) and he is actually Smokey. However there are a few things that I am unsure about - like when Smokey tried to drag him down the hole, when he actually saw smokey and the fact that whoever/whatever he saw in the cabin said "help me" to him. So again I am kinda unsure about this theory. Sorry I didn't help much. |

| To explain the smoke taking John down the pipe, maybe the black smoke is Jacob who is the "leader" which can also be interpreted as "security system" easily, and John Locke has been taken over by that guy that you see with Jacob in the finale with the black shirt. The black shirt guy who found the loop hole that Jacob mentioned in the finale by somehow becoming Locke when the plane crashed. Remember when Mr Eko saw the black smoke and you slowed down the picture you could see his memories or faces of people he killed, like the black smoke scanning to check if he was a good person or not. The black smoke obviously has power to enter brains why not enter someones body to become them to make certain things happen??? Maybe both Jacob and his black shirt guy friend were both smokey somehow and something happened (that we haven't been shown) to make them enemies..."good guys" "bad guys" theme. I'm up to season 2 now so i'll see what comes out of it, I think Ben and Richard will come into my theory soon somehow, their knowledge has a lot of answer too I think. |

thats an interesting therory, and it got me thinking..
wat if locke was close to death in the crash and was healed fully by jacob (so then he could walk) as part of jacobs plan (i think he has a plan otherwise why would he let himself be killed so easily) i then think that jacob passed some like da ja vu kinda knowledge thing to him and influenced locke to do certain things but sometimes he lost his faith, which i think he got by his ability to walk again. i think when lock was being dragged by smokey it was the Dark Shirt Guy (DSG) and he realised wat jacob was trying to do so he dragged locke to get jacob smokey and they had a fite and jacob one and thats why wen someone asked wat he saw locke said something lik beautiful (im not quite sure)
anyway then when locke came back to the island he was acually dead this time so this gave DSG smokey like permission to use lockes visual form and get to jacob..
but jacob will be right, im sure hes got something planned. and im sure we will see more of locke, its just so sad seeing him always being used.. |
