There is no 'real' confirmation, but is it possible that Ajira 316 took off in 2008 and landed in 2007?
This would mean that Jacob is 'killed' in 2007 but convinces Hurley to board 316 a year later, in 2008. The only evidence is that lostpedia states that Ajira 316 took-off from LAX in January 2008 and Locke receives his passport from Widmore, with the issue date being 12 December 2007, leaving him only 19 days to travel the world to see the O6, see Helen's grave, give up, get killed by Ben, have a memorial service and be transported on board 316 if they were still to crash in 2007 (which I think is not enough time, meaning they take-off in early 2008).
Also, there is evidence to suggest a time distortion when we see that 316 is flying at night before crossing the unseen border of the Island and suddenly it is day time and they are flying straight into one of the Island's mountains. Any thoughts? |

| If that's the case, would it have anything to do with the approx. 10 month leap forward that Ben took when he turned the wheel? (So coming back the other way, from the outside world to the island, the leap is backwards in time). But wouldn't Locke have fixed that when he replaced the wheel on its axis before leaving the island? Or maybe that just stopped the flashes, but didn't negate the moving of the island in time and space. |

I would think that Locke turing the FDW stopped the flashed but did not correct the time dilation that people and objects experience coming to and from the island. I believe that the release of the electro-magnetic energy beneath the Swan is responsible for the time dilation, not the Orchid.
And objects coming and going from the Island experience BOTH forward and backward moving time, ie the doctor moving FORWARDS and the payload (rocket) Faraday sent from the ship moving BACKWARDS and only within a few days of each other.
So 316 could have moved backwards in time, crashed on the Island, before it even left LAX! |

Ugh, no. Jack met up with Kate at the airport at night in 2007. Immediately after that meeting, he went to the funeral home where Ben picked him up and he shaved his beard. Then they went about getting everyone together and boarded the plane maybe a few days later.
It was always 2007 off island and when they landed back on the island. While some were in 1977, a title card saying "thirty years later" was always used. Meaning it was ALWAYS 2007 for Ben, Sun, Locke/Baddie, Frank, Illana etc

Most likely just a continuity error.

Well it was established quite a long time ago that the island doesn't move in time with the rest of the world. Remember when Dan did that experiment and found the island was 31 minutes behind real time? Who's to say the time difference doesn't continue to increase? |

| Jess815 - this has been discussed quite a while ago - regarding the dates, i am sure it is not a continuity error, but they definately landed in early 2008, I think the way they said "thirty years later" was just easier than saying "thirty years and two months later" for example. That is what the consensus seems to be anyway. |
