I'm reading a novel at the moment called "Lightning" by Dean Koontz.
The novel is about time travel and DESTINY. I think that like the time travellers in this novel, the island and anyone who can time travel in the show (possibly Ben and Locke?) have to follow certain rules - which are simply based on whether or not a particular action creates va paradox.
A paradox as you probly know is an event that contradicts itself (a e.g. of a paradox statement is "I always lie" which cannot be possible as the person must be lying when they say it, so it isn't true. LOL)
So my theory is: the island or wateva part of or inhabitant of the island cannot move backwards to any time it wants - because if it creates a paradox then GOD knows what will happen lol. (e.g. a person goes back in time and marries their grandparent - they would be their own grandparent and it would be a loop/cycle that .. ?) lol |

Some people theorise that just like gravity keeps us to the Earth, there would be some kind of force stopping us from causing a paradox.
My theory though, is more of a 'Back to the Future' kind of theme, every event (in my belief even as small as subatomic particles fusing) stems off universes at every moment of time. How does this fit in you ask? Well if I was to go back and say kill my grand mother and I succeeded, I would end up putting myself in another universe that spiralled off from that event, therefore avoiding having erased myself. |
