season 1, girls soccer team in the airport, had the numbers in order on the back of their jerseys
hurley's hummer's numberplate, cant remember waht it was tho, contained the numbers
crashed september 22, 2004 2+2=4 2x4=8

One of the main 'secret clues' was in the episode 13 at Hurleys welcome back party. Something like 4 palm trees, 8 presents, 15 guests, 23 drinks, two people with clothes with the number 23 and 42 on them.
IMO the numbers don't provide any usefull purpose (as a viewer) other than to perhaps highlight the islands presence in the scene. Of course they will have a final huge meaning but I don't think we'll deduce it until the writers actual focus on providing a real explanation.
