I kinda think it is about redemption. Who or whatever is controlling things wants Sayid to feel the pain that he has caused others. I think he will have to make a really selfless caring act in the future that will allow him to move forward. I see him more as a victim of cercomstance more than an evil person. If an American soldier did what he did he would be called a hero.
Wasn't there a scene in season one where someone ask Sayid if he's married and he says "Not anymore" timeloop clue? or just my imagination? |

Sayid's actions all seem to be about 'necessity'. He never wants to do them but they generally have to be donr. He's the islnands 'can do' man. However we now see that this is corrupted (probably deliberately by Ben) and Sayid is now on that 'dark slope' of revenge and hate where he is indeed becoming evil (IMO).
I agree there is definately some possibility of 'redemption' for Sayid in the future, but I don't think he will have to make a huge sacrifice to do it - he has already sacrificed so much so that other people can sleep easy.
