scozdawg...about the iterations on her distress signal, Sayid calculates that it's been playing for 16 years, which is around the same age as Alex. She didn't lie about she turned on her signal after Alex was taken.
the Context of when she wants to say that is when she can't wait to see her daughter Alex and wanted to spend time with her, so she decided to stay, she wouldn't have any kills back n the real world she can use so she decide to stay with Alex. |

ecoecofil...if the blackrock got to the island by the tsunami, like you mentioned, it won't work, because:
1) Black rock would much more damages then it current is.
2) All Dynamites will go off (chain reaction) and plus they are unstable as well (e.g. Artz, the high school science teacher, just died holding it).
3) The ship would be been completely destroyed if all the dynites went off. |

I think I have read that the Island is supposed to be north east of Papua New Guinea, which makes it say, around the bottom of the Marshall Islands. I think these Islands are American Territory, Is that right? That could be wrong. Anyway, I think the Americans carried out surface tests of the hydrogen bomb there in 1954.
But, I think Rousseau's team must have been there as a result of French testing. Yeh, Scozdog I think I have been barking up the wrong tree with Volcano's, although you can get back venting from Underground Nuclear tests as well.
The French were testing East of here for a 30 year period from July 1966 to January, 1996. France carried out 193 atmospheric and underground tests in the area. On 24 August,1968, a hydrogen bomb code named Canopus was surface tested over Fangataufa and left the whole Island uninhabitable due to radioactive contamination.
It certainly makes you wonder why the Dharma were there at all???
THEY were supposed to be there from around 1970, when a lot of testing was still going on. Their funding was supposed to be cut in 1987.
There is other information saying they carried out 200 nuclear tests at Mururoa and Fangataufa atolls. 40 of them in the atmosphere.
The submarine type quality of construction takes on a whole new level of significance, as they must have survived underground during the testing....and....this sort of structure could withstand being inundated through tsunami flooding etc.
But if Rousseau has been out, exposed, all this time she will be suffering severe contamination. But maybe she was saved the worst of it by being kidnapped by the others and taken to safety underground becos of her pregnancy.
However, when she escaped to find her crew. She must have found them severely contaminated. She must have killed them all out of mercy and probably burnt the boat and the crew in a funeral pyre....and....thats why nothing remains. |

heres what i think, alot of things are missing but heres wat i think.
In the finale Ben said "If you call them its the beggining of the end" now...Ben said he came with Dharma Initiative but betrayed for the others. Now what I believe is the leader of the others "Marvin Candle" is in hiding in the outside world, the Hanso FOundation seeing people on the island (maybe) pretending to be the Dharma initiative still send them supplies..ok.
Ok next is when he says if you call that every single person on this island will die, i believe that the Dharma Inititaive who are trying to find the island (which the others have hidden it from them) will murder everyone on the island and take it over again, confusing the survivors with being others.
It may be very hard to follow but tell me what u think. thnxz lostoholic. |

Lostchess maybe the dynamite has become less stable after the passage of time...and ..maybe because the blackrock was carried by the force of the sea....it ...was like a cork bobbing??? Bobbing in a smooth motion?
Maybe, the dynamite needs more of a jolt...maybe if it moves in a fluid motion it is less of a problem.
After all the blackrock has been there since 1883. Does dynamite go off...as in ...I mean become less stable over time? |

Look Lostoholic, there is something else I find confusing and I wrote about it a while ago some where else.
Its the thing about those messages from Penny. 2 messages came from her before the outward communications were restored. I read somewhere that those stations could still take internal messages. OK !! Now you know those messages coming from Penny??? Are they coming from the same room where Marvin Candles messages were recorded???
What I am wondering, and this may be crazy??? But what if Penny is sending her messages from on the Island, in the underground area where they would all hide during the Nuclear testing?
Is this one crazy theory...or...has it got legs??? |

The so called boats could be owned or sent by Hanso, since we still don't know who sent the boat as well as Noami, we know fore sure it's not Penelope's boat. |

No thats true. If it was carried in a tsunami you would expect it to be all brocken up???
I don't know Lostchess!! Maybe the construction of those old ships was very, very strong and if the dynamite was inside and the boat did survive, so maybe the dynamite could survive. I don't really know the answer to that!!
In the Tsunami in Banda Ache we did see everything brocken up and smashed to smithereens but. The houses there were just very light timber construction and their boats too.
These early Galleons or whatever they are called were really made to last. In Lostpedia, it does say they don't think it had metal in the construction but there was certainly metal around at that time???? Don't know???
Of course then we get back to electromagnetic attraction, but I don't think that came about till the others started their experimentation. Do you??

| even so, i don't think this ship would be strong enough to withstand that force, made of wood and don't have the technology and materials to build a better and strong hull (Remember the storm (no where near tsunami level and got beached) we had in Australia about the Pasha Bulker, even the Hull cracked a little - metal hull!! - so what chance can an old wooden hull boat got?)... If you said it was strong the boxes of dynamite wasn't even tied down the force would of knocked it to the ground and set of the chain reaction of explosions... |

Lostchess! I am still thinking about this, as in the Tsunami.
What I am thinking is that the wave length of a Tsunami only starts bunching up when it hits land. Now Scozdog discounted my theory before about the Volcanic theory around the Hawiian hot spot bcos the crane crashed south of this area.
However, the Pacific is ringed by Volcanoes, called the Ring of Fire, because of the edge of plate techtonics. This would apply to the Lost Island. Volcanoes are exploding and imploding all the time. Now 1883, has got to be a long time ago. There is going to be a BIG change in the underwater topography over that time???
Maybe, the Island had imploded or did not even exist then?
So when the TSUNAMI happened, the Island is far away from Krakataua, and we don't get so much of the bunching up bcos the land is still deep underwater and also, by this time the Tsunami is running out of steam.
So maybe the blackrock is be-quiet, is that the expression, and sort of sitting above where the Island will eventually be through contiuous volcanic activity. Very convenient of course in story line terms....but it could happen!!!

| The lava of the volcano is what creates the land mass, like the islands in the pacific like the Hawaii. Having said that the Fire and wood don't obviously mix to get and well as the he heat of the lava and direct contact with it would center destroy the rest of the boat, and it will take long long long long to make and island... |

What about the boat finally became becalmed, the storm was over, it road the flood, then as the flood water disippated it gently lodged on the land. No volcanic action in the immediate vicinity. The hull was made of tongue and groove timbers, there may have been some steel strapping, much thicker, but like a wine barrel. Or solid timber frame and all these tongue and grooved plank superstructure, with bit more flexibility and "give" than a steel hull, that can shear and tear?

Lostchess, there are a couple more things I want to put into the mix.
According to my research on Wikipedia, the French maintained a presence in the Island of Hao, in Polynesia after the tests were over in 1996. The halt of nuclear testing did not mean the end of activities. The defense forces have maintained a surveillance capacity there.
They have roads and a landing strip,that sounds familiar from what Juliette said in the last ep. Not that I am saying Lost is taking place on a French Island, I'm just suggesting there would be a matching, or parity by the Americans. Although it is not necessarily going to involve a quasi-religious cult, but you never can tell. On the French Island, all their boring equipment, and contaminated machinery etc was put in deep wells, as in waste dumping.
Also future geological surveillance is carried out through automated systems called TELSITE.
The other thing I wanted to say was that the others always refer to an "incident".
I found an Incident on Wikipedia, same place as all the rest.
There have been unacknowledged nuclear explosions, three I think. In 1979 there was what is refered to as the "VELA INCIDENT". It is hypothesized to be a joint test between the Israeli's and the South Africans and I think it happened in the Indian Ocean. |
