| My theory, The island was colonised and set up post Cuban Missile Crisis by a group of scientists (the hanso foundation???) in a bid to save the Earth from nuclear armageddon. Most nuclear missiles (as far as I know) rely on internal navigation systems to fly to their targets and if these navigation systems rely on magnetic compasses then maybe a huge magnetic source on a deserted island in the mid pacific may attract(???) any Nucs. |

| I think the nukes don't have magnetic compasses, i think they use either laser guidance system or use of GPS System to lcoated the target to both(i.e. the use of lattiude and the Longitude). |

or early models of nuke, like Hiroshima which the US droped a atomic bomb on Hiroshima by using a plane. That could be used like the conventional way. Also i don't think back then there was a magnetic compass.
The use of magnetic compass is not too relable because i think the earth's magnetic field is constantly changing maybe by it self or by the solar flare released by the Sun. Which this may effect the bearing of the bomb. Also the magnetic compasses is very accurate to hit the target. I know the nuke will still do the damage it missed the primary target, but hitting the target with accuracy to focus the damage on the intended target. When u launch a Nuke the further away the bomb to the target the further away the bomb is from the target (Obviously it depends on the wind factor on how much it will stray fromt he target) when miss some of the target may of die but not all of them, so technically the bomb has failed to completed it's mission.
Well that my thought on the nukes using magnetic compasses. Any thoughts? |

| why do you ppl think it was an explosion when desmond turned the key... all that we saw was a bright light and a flying hatch door thing... i believe wat happened was that with the turn of the key, it released all the energy in the place and repelled all metal, causeing the only metal thing near the actual hatch to fly through the air... the hatch door... plus, you see the losties picking up cans that fell out of there "cupboard"... a weak force pushed them off maybe? |

Could some of the people's names or objects be anagrams for something else. Like Doctor Marvin Candle- a few words: vaccine, volcano, dormant. Perhaps some other suggestions?
And this is probably already being mentioned, but there were apollo chocolates in the hatch and as this site already mentions, appollo had something to do with a swan and an arrow- stuff on the Dharma logos. And to point out the obvious, there was a statue (well, the foot) with only four toes- a reference to a hercules story. |

ok this is a bit off topic but might be a possiblity-
how about the Hanso Foundation own Oceanic Airlines???
don't really know where that one goes but it may be an easier way to get people to test on (ie: just crash a plane every now and then) or just as a revenue raiser.
what do you think? |

| totally. well if u think about that it's all very possible. i mean they own Widmore Labs. and it's fair enough that the desmond not pushing the button caused the plane to crash but let's not forget that they had been off course for HOURS before that. maybe it was an influence of hanso/dharma/the others..... |

| Hi, i think that all of them are alll ready dead and because they've done bad things in the past, the others are deciding wheather they should go to heaven or hell. Or maybe they are really just be tested on things and thats what its all about on jusst seeing wheather they can push onjust one button every 108mins, or maybe there are mire others on the island and the 'others' arn't who they say they are and they are controlled by 'others' aswell. Also when they took claires baby maybe they needed it to carry on there crew of people so loads of other people didn't come on the island. But i don't think that the others new anything aout pushing the button every 108mins because 'Henry Gale' even though it wasn't his real name, he didn't now anything about the computer, and he kept saying that he was going to kill him, so i think that he was that black smoke in the jungle like a sercurity system thing, the thing Mr. Eko and Charlie saw. But in the end i think Rousseau's daughter will help save Jack, Kate and Sawyer from the 'others', because she's nice. |

| i can't wait to see Lost season 3 and see what happens to Desmond in the the Hatch after he turned the fail-safe key and what the 'others' are going to do with Jack, Kate and Swayer. Also some question maybe answered and maybe more arises, who knows, we have to watch season 3 to found out. :) |

oh nice theory. Yea Hurley could be special later.
1) the bird which mentioned his name
2) "others" released him.
Yea maybe in season 3 there would be concentrating more on Hurley when Jack, Swayer and Kate (Which those 3 are the main characters) are taken in the last episode of Season 2. |
