everyone i know that everyone thinks that statue has sumthing to do with atlantis and atlantis is said to have been part of greece. well that statue had four toes and apollo god of the sun had four toes coz he lost one on the sun chariot he road each day and night that was attached to wild bulls. well atlantis' god is thought to be apollo wat i mean by that is like sparta's god was aries and athens' god was athena well atlantis' was apollo so it could be that the island has sumthing to do with atlantis.
the statue could also be sumthing that darhma put there see apollo was god of the sun and one of darhma's thing is astrology and space and the sun kinda thing so in that village that the people on the break are subpose to go to maybe they put a statue ther or sumthing.
wat do u people think. i think either way the statue is apollo. |

| It's a good theory but poseidon was the good of atlantis not apollo. But Apollo was said to live on an island that was pulled around the oceans by swans. |

| i dont think the statue has anything to do with atlantis personally. I think it has something to do with gene therapy and the experiments on the island. It would be interesting if the others only had 4 toes. but what i think isnt really that well founded. I dont like the whole Atlantis thing myelf |

| At Comicon damon said that season 3 would explore the history of the island that predated dharma's occupation when he was asked about the statue. I'm pretty sure it wasn't built by dharma |

i think its like the colosus that the people of rhodes put up after they won an amazing victory. the colosus stood at the entrance to the harbour of rhodes (just like in the picture), with one leg upon either shore. The tunnel between it's legs marked the entrance to said harbour. o in that bay behind the statue might be the port that the others used to launch their boats.
also adding to the theory that its a statue of apollo, i find it wierd that Sun (the person) saw the leg of the god of her name.
also if it is the |

The statue "The Colossus of Rhodes" was a statue of the god Helios, the god of the sun who was later associated with Apollow, look at
http://www.abcgallery.com/mythology/apollo.html
For all the inforamtion.
i do belive that it is the foot of the god Helios, because, i read somewear, that one side of the statues footing, as it stood over the entrance to the harbour, disappared into the water, as the people had angred Posiden, the god of the sea, so he took away one of the feet so that the statue could not be replace. but maybe, that the story was the Apollo did it, as he replaced Helios as the god of the sun, maybe, he took the part of the statue, creating this island.
well that's what i think |

| Just for the record the statue is on the west side of the island not the east. They were sailing to the northern part of the island and the island was on their right. |

| I agree with kizzashizza. If the son god (wat eva his name was) LOST a toe than that means he would of originally (excuse the spellin) had 5 toes. Notice how the statue has only 4 toes and the toes are in perfect preportion. If it was the son god then he would have 4 toes but there would also be room for a 5th toe and there isn't. Get what 1 mean. Let me know if this made sense. |

4 toes on each foot = 8 toes and 8 fingers.
We have a base 10 digital numeric system because we have 10 digits, being our 10 fingers and 10 toes.
If the island's native population have 8 digits they would have a base 8 digital numeric system and the mathematical system underpinning their technology would have developed differently to our own.
Sayid said the equations he saw amongst Rousseau's scribblings were like nothing he had ever seen. That may mean very advanced because the DHARMA scientists are way ahead of us OR they encountered the remains of an ancient race with a base 8 numeric system resulting in an assymetrical branch of science to that with which we are familiar.
4 8 16 are 3 of the numbers.
15 + 8=23.
Just a thought. |

oops.
I just realised a problem with my reasoning as far as 'the Numbers' goes.
Base 8 math (also known as octal) has no numeral 8, just as base 10 has no numeral 10.
In base 10 the numerals are 0 thru 9. 10 is made up of 0 and 1 making the next number in the following series, 20 the next after that etc.
In any digital base 8 system the numerals are 0 thru 7 and the number following 7 is 10.
Consequently a culture with base 8 maths would never have invented the numeral 8.
The rest of the theory is OK. |

| goin bak to the people who siad that there must be room for a fifth toe not really coz first of all he could of been born wid 4 toes and second he is a god and in order to walk ur toes have to be in perportion other wise u cant balance. |

| whereisalvarhanso sed that appolo lives in an island, and that he gets pulled around oceans by swans, if this is right, then the theory that the island is moving is right and it gets pulled around by the magnets in the swan station (thats why they call it the swan, cause of the myth), and thats why the push the button, to keep the island moving |

| i think that if the statue is not a statue of the "dharma god" i also think that some greek people got stranded on the island and tried building a statue of Appolo but only got 1 foot done then they disapaered or became experiments for dhrama (sorry wild inmagination) *sorry for spelling |
