Oooh! What goodness.
Executive producer badasses Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse just did a teleconference with reporters to talk about the return of Lost one week from today (holla!), and ponied up a lot of interesting info about what lies ahead, and what it all means.
If you're a fan, you don't want to miss this, so get in here for the dish...
What We Learned from Darlton Today:
This yearâs huge season-finale shocker is being referred to as the âFrozen Donkey Wheel.â It does not involve donkeys, wheels or anything of an en-suffix nature. (Now it's totally obvious, right?)
Darlton wonât say a word about whether anyone is dying this season. Carlton says: âIf we basically were to tease that there was going to be a death, sort of like when Shannon died, it kind of lead everybody to chase it down and spoil it. On the other hand, if we were to say that everyone is safe, that would kind of really ruin the dramatic impact of the finale. So weâre excited about whatâs happening. There are definitely some very large and seismic events that will happen to our castaways between now and the end of the season. By the end of the season, some peopleâs fates will be clear and others will not be so clear." |

Something big is up for Claire. âI think there is a very compelling event involving Claireâs character that will take place between now and the season finale.â (Rumors include everything from a kiss to the kiss of death...)
The flash-forwards and flashbacks are a âmosaic,â and when the âmosaicâ is complete, the story of Lost is complete. Damon explains: âThere is the story on the island, which we perceive to be the present, and then thereâs the story of the Oceanic 6, which is happening off the island in the future. But if we were to switch perspectives at any time and suddenly we were off the island, focusing on the Oceanic 6 trying to get back, that would be the present, and what was happening back on the island would be either a parallel present, possibly a future, possibly a past. Who knows? So when you hear that whoosh noise, the question becomes âWhere does it take you?â Hopefully, if we do our jobs right in the finale, in the eight months in between the finale and the season premiere next year, the audience will once again be asking, âWhat the hell are they going to do in the season premiere?â And that means weâre keeping people on their toes. And that's our intent.â
Regarding Jaters and Skaters, Damon says: âAll we can say is that Sawyer is not one of the Oceanic 6 and Jack and Kate are. And obviously, there will be a huge focus in these final three hours of the show that comprise the finale in terms of how that series of events transpires, and ultimately what happens to Sawyer, and itâs all on the axis of the love triangle. So we think that both fans of Sawyer and Kate, otherwise known as the Skaters from what Iâm told, and Jack and Kate, the Jaters, will have a bounty of interesting romantic scenes.â
On Juliet and Jack: âWell, Jack and Juliet obviously kissed in the sixth episode this year, and we will be sort of revisiting the emotional idea of that and their relationship in our second episode back ... |

On Juliet and Jack: âWell, Jack and Juliet obviously kissed in the sixth episode this year, and we will be sort of revisiting the emotional idea of that and their relationship in our second episode back, which is the one that airs on May 1,â says Damon.
Darlton loves Penny and Desmond. âIt was certainly our intention to make that an epic love story along the lines of one of the central love stories in the show,â says Damon. âBecause the chemistry between Ian Cusick and Sonya Walger works so well, it was a well that we wanted to return to sort of time and time again. Obviously, it became pivotal in Charlieâs death, and we feel some of the best episodes the show has ever done arenât [the best] because theyâre weird time-travel stories, itâs because they were so focused on that love story between Penny and Desmond. So we will certainly be returning to it. Unfortunately, Sonya is a very in-demand actor and is in Tell Me You Love Me for HBO, so itâs been challenging for us to secure her services, but once she becomes available, hopefully weâll be using her again." Looks like someone needs to remind Sonya of her "constant!"
Carlton on Charles Whidmore: âThe characterâs importance changes over time.â Damon: âYou will see him sooner, rather than later.â Carlton: âAnd see more of him.â
The first hour of the finale (May 15) is titled âThereâs No Place Like Home.â (Henry Gale would agree.)
Smokey and Jacob will be in the first episode back. OMG, yee! Says Damon: âYou will get a healthy dose of Jacob before the end of the season.â OK, but is he Jackâs dad?!
The fate of Karl and Rousseau will be known the first episode back, and Darlton really want to tell Rousseauâs story of how she got to the island.
The four-toed statue âwill be back on the show,â says Damon. âPeople will learn who built it and why it has four toes.â (Obvious guess: Lawnmower accident.)

The first half of the season was supposed to be the setup, and the second half, the payoff. The writersâ strike really screwed that up, but they promise they will pay off.
Rebecca Mader
Darlton wishes they could have told more of the freightersâ story this season, but are very happy with the casting. Each character turned out exactly how they had envisioned.
They are having discussions of a similar online experience for this summer that would segue into season five like Find815.com did.
How many people know the very end of the series? Damon: âNot a lot. We can conservatively say you could sort of count them all on one hand. But if we were to disclose the names of any others, they might be kidnapped and taken off to Central America and tortured.â Carlton: âWe told D! ck Cheney because we were pretty sure that no one would be able to find him and get the secrets from him.â |

OMG OMG OMG!!!
we might get another hour of Lost this season!!!!!
http://community.tvguide.com/blog-entry/TVGuide-Ed itors-Blog/Ausiello-Report/Ausiello-Scoop-Lost/800 037127
"OK, I've left you hanging long enough, Ausholes. The scintillating piece of Lost prattle I've been holding over your heads since Ask Ausiello went live early this morning (i.e., the better-than-the-coffin-re veal scoop) goes a little something like this....
According to one of my 815 snitches, Team Darlton is in advanced talks with ABC to produce â wait for it, wait for it â an additional hour of Lost this season!
[The crowd roars]
Now, before you go French-kissing a total stranger out of sheer elation, my source stresses that this is by no means a done deal. In fact, the scheduling hurdles alone are enough to make a grown man cry. But you have to admit, the prospect of a 14th hour is a tantalizing one. And it raises so darn many questions. For instance:
⢠If the dream becomes a reality, how would it work? As it stands, Lost's Season 4 climax is slated to air on May 22 on a season-finale-themed night that also includes the cappers of Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy. So would the additional Lost hour be broadcast the following Thursday? Or would it perhaps run on another night?
⢠What does this do to the finale that was going to air on May 22? Would elements of it be incorporated into the new finale? Would this 14th hour come before that episode? And since we were originally supposed to get 16 eppies this season before the strike cut that number back to 13, does this mean we would now be getting a season finale that is more in line with what Darlton intended? Or more exposition that they ran out of time to include? The mind boggles.
So what do you think, people? And where does the line for the 14th-hour prayer group form? I'm in. " |

I can now confirm what I first teased earlier this week: Team Darlton has sealed a deal with ABC to bring us an extra hour of Lost this season.
But there's a twist.
Lost isn't the only ABC hit experiencing an unexpected growth spurt. Sources confirm to me exclusively that Grey's Anatomy will also expand its season by an hour â and it has Lost to thank!
Allow me to explain. With a 14th hour of Lost now a done deal, the show's finale will swell to three hours. But, in what can only be described as an unorthodox scheduling move, the first hour of that finale will air on May 15, and then we have to wait two weeks â until May 29 â to get the last two hours! That's right, no Lost on May 22.
Why?
Apparently, Darlton convinced ABC that the final two hours had to air together. And with the finales of Grey's and Ugly Betty already slated for May 22 at 8 and 9 pm, respectively, ABC really had no other choice than to sked Lost's two-hour exit for May 29. That, in turn, created a hole on May 22 at 10 pm â hence the net's decision to tack an extra hour onto the Grey's finale.
"We are very excited and grateful to [ABC president] Steve McPherson for working out the scheduling difficulties to allow us to make the second part of our finale two hours," says exec producer Carlton Cuse. "Damon and I were working on the script and we just couldn't get it all done in one hour without shortchanging the story. Now the finale will have all the sweep and emotional completeness we wanted it to have â along with, of course, answering who's in the coffin."
Still confused about how the new schedule will look? Let me break it down for you.
May 15
8 pm: Ugly Betty
9 pm: Grey's Anatomy
10 pm: Lost (Part 1 finale)
May 22
8 pm: Ugly Betty finale
9-11 pm: Two-hour Grey's Anatomy finale
May 29
8 pm: Lost encore (Part 1 finale)
9-11 pm: Two-hour Lost finale |

so Kate's bad acting has finally gotten to Jack.
am beginning to think that the show is running out of money so they have to keep killing people off to cut costs.
why Alex???? frack.
interesting ep. will have to watch again though. lots of future bits that don't fit in yet.
good to see Frank back (smokey Frank, not pilot Frank). will look for some screencaps of him
so Ben wants to kill Penny? why can't he kill Charles? the same reason Michael can't kill himself?? |
