Jin and Rousseu Reply to this message
Just a quick question - not sure if it has been answered or not...

But i want to know why rousseu never recognised Jin in the past seasons when she first met the Losties??? shouldnt she have?

Jin definately recognised a younger rousseu.... so shouldnt she have recognised him in the future... especially because of the way he disappeared in the flashes...

Re:Jin and Rousseu Reply to this message
Rousseau never had direct contact with Jin so it's unclear if she ever directly recognised him. Add to that, it had been 16 years since she first met him. Do you remember people you met 16 years ago? PLUS she went nuts somewhere along the way, there's even a possibility the island messed with her mind.

Re:Jin and Rousseu Reply to this message
Yeah, I thought that was strange as well, especially after her strong reaction on seeing him after she killed Robert. But if you think about it, in 2004 she would expect the guy she saw 16 years ago to be about 40-45 years old, so she probably assumed it wasn't him.

Re:Jin and Rousseu Reply to this message
It's hard to say really.

I don't think Danielle would recognize Jin because in that reality, Jin never appeared. However, when it gets to 2004 this time, she probably would recognize him. Or is it the same reality and Danielle can't remember him? It's hard to say.

The same applies to Desmond, when Faraday came a knocking on the Swans door. Did Desmond really remember Faraday, or was it just a vision?

Re:Jin and Rousseu Reply to this message
Pretty sure that never happened. She first met Sayid, then Hurley (as he went to get the battery), then Kate in 'Maternity Leave', she takes Jack, Locke, Hurley and Arzt to the Black Rock, meets Charlie when she steals Aaron from Claire, Ben in the net (which makes me wonder how come she didn't recognise Ben as the man that stole her child) and then in the finale of season 3 she leads the survivors to the radio tower while Jin along with Sayid and Bernard stay behind to blow up the Others (I don't think I've missed any...). The only time that she would have seen Jin would have been while they were blowing up the tree with dynamite (their plan for ambushing the Others before Karl turns up and gives them the update) and next to the fuselage in the jungle when they split up into Jack's followers and Locke's followers. Both of these times would have been with a large group of people.

Re:Jin and Rousseu Reply to this message
Wow taxford you have a great memory, either that or you are a complete Lost Tragic!!!! I commend you!

I agree, I don't think Roussou recognised Jin in any episode, they haven't really spent any time together. Also it had been about 16 years between Roussou meeting Jin in the flash, and she seems a little "loco" so I just don't think she remembered. Also similar times between her seeing Ben when he took Alex, it happened very fast and she was scared, she knew Ben was an other when he as in her net immediately, maybe she had blocked out the memory?

"(which makes me wonder how come she didn't recognise Ben as the man that stole her child)"

What makes you think she didn't recognise him? She didn't kill him because...he didn't kill her. He basically saved her AND Alex from certain death. She began hiding underground after Ben's warning so the Others wouldn't find her. He helped her in his own "Ben" way. She recognised him, for sure.

Re:Jin and Rousseu Reply to this message
Haha, thanks iwantjack, a bit of both actually. As for Rousseau, Ben's message sounds anything other than heroic..."Be grateful you're still alive. Now you listen to me. If you try to follow me or if you ever come looking for me, I'll kill you. And if you want your baby to live, every time you hear whispers, you run the other way". Rousseau never knew that she was spared so I can't see how that would stop her from killing Ben.

And Alex being taken away from her is the only thing that drives her. All she ever does on the Island is to find Alex, and when she captures the very one that actually took her daughter away from her, all she does is hand her off to Sayid willy-nilly. All I'm saying is that it doesn't really fit with her personality.

Re:Jin and Rousseu Reply to this message
That's why I said he saved her in his own "Ben" kind of way. He's no Sawyer, planting legendary kisses and jumping out of helicopters, but he WAS sent to simply kill her without hesitation and if he hadn't taken Alex she probably would've died from malnourishment any way. Ben could've easily taken Alex and still shot Danielle, but he didn't. If Widmore had just sent Ethan, both Danielle and Alex would've been killed straight away.

"And Alex being taken away from her is the only thing that drives her. She was afraid of him/the others. Add to that the fact that she was mentally unstable and it does seem within her personality to hand him to a torturer from Iraq :D

Re:Jin and Rousseu Reply to this message
I think the writers could easy explain both why she didn't recognise Jin and Ben on her being mentally unstable, otherwise it would leave a continuity error/hole in the storyline.

But Rousseau wouldn't have know that Ben was atucally saving her, she would just know that some Other came into her tent at night, pointed a gun at her, stole her baby and told her that if she tried to find him, he'd kill her. There's no doubt that Ben was doing the right thing, but she didn't know that.

I reckon her fear of the Others is a good explaination, but she had no hesitation of tourtering Sayid herself (she could have easily tortured Ben herself) and stealing Aaron from Claire to do an exchange with the Others, so IF she did recognise Ben, I can't see anything stopping her from getting the information needed from him to find Alex.
