| I think that this is important - what part does he play? He's been integral since Season 1. It's not just between Ben and Charles Widmore. Locke is tailing Ben, trying to find out more information and discover the true purpose of the island. Ben is just using the island to suit his own neurotic purposes. He's power obsessed and still has a guilt complex about his mother's death. Locke will never want to leave the island - he knows he'll lose the use of his legs again. Ben just wants to use Locke in some way, that's all. |

I think that the island is really a represntation of a singularity, and It's purpouse is draw people to it in order to resolve person crisis in their post island lives. Hence the purpouse of the flashbacks. I think this is part of the reason why people can't reproduce on the island, because someone born on island would have no past conflict.
It could also be part of an in-built population controll to protect the profoundness that it is. |

| Having seen Locke in the coffin, I think he is supposed to be a short-term leader to complete the purge because Ben wouldn't. He's already been successful in destroying a lot of what Dharma built. |
