John Locke is the name of an english philospher who lived in the 17th century. He tought that the mind was a "Tabula Rasa" (latin for 'clean slate'). Tabula Rasa is the name of the third or fourth episode in the first season were Locke plays Backgammon with Walt.
Locke was given a 'clean slate' when he crashed on the island (he could walk again).
The Philosopher John Locke thought that befor we percieve anything, are minds are bare and empty. Then we begin to sense things.
Philosophers often believed that infants did this more intensely, because it is a whole new big bright world.
This could be linked to the study of infants and children on the island - how they sense things more intensely. |

| Jeremy Bentham was also an English philosopher who came up with the theory of panopticon - the perfect prison. The jailer sees everything, from every angle, and yet himself remains invisible. |
