How many people actually watch LOST Reply to this message
How many people actually watch lost. It annoys me so much how they put it on so late! I don't understand how it was a top rating show in 2005 and 06 but why did people stop watching it. There are only 2 people out of 800 have watched the last season at my school.

does anyone know the viewing stats from season 5

i really hope that season 6 is not put on so late. It at least deserves the 9:30 time slot.

I watch it :)

In the US they averaged around 10 million viewers per week in season 5, which I think is pretty reasonable for a show in it's fifth season. The reason why a lot of people stop watching is because if you miss even a single episode of this show, it is incredibly hard to pick up again. Imagine missing a few episodes and then coming back to an episode like "The Constant". You'd just be like "WTF is going on?!?!?"

You're right, season 6 does deserve the 9:30 timeslot. With the right advertising, the viewership should be good for season 6. But, it is Channel 7 we're talking about. We can't have Lost on ahead of "Highway Patrol" afterall, it's clearly a far superior show.

Well, obviously everyone here watches it. It's too complicated for new viewers to get involved so 7 stopped promoting it. It's only put on for fans now.

unfortunalely, there is absolutely no ausralian TV audience out there. and no chance of a timeslot promotion. the episodes that were on at 10:30 were getting a rediculously low 250,000 viewers. for comparison Boston legal (mon 10:30) and Eli Stone (Tues 10:30) both got over 550,000 viewers with the same amount of advertising (almost none). even heroes rated better than lost. it is actually amazing how much patience 7 had with it in that slot. any other network and it would have been ripped off years ago.

but unfortunately that's how the tv world works. no one watched a show and it gos to later in the night, and if lots of people watch it, then it gets a shot in primetime (like scrubs, and family guy).

tomtimten you're judging that on ratings which is judged only by who has the black box in their TV set. Ratings are hardly an accurate measure of what is popular. People are more likely to have their TVs on at 8:30 than 10:30 or 11:30 so shows then will always get more ratings. I'd bet if they put LOST back to 9:30 or 8:30 it'd rate well.

Re:How many people actually watch LOST Reply to this message
there is a science behind ratings. basically, and to the extent of my knowledge in the matter, all you need is a comparatively small number of people to represent a whole population.

they take age and area demographics and all those types of things into consideration when they calculate the viewership of an entire population.

for examples sake only, it could possibly only take 5000 of those boxes to gain enough information to 'guess' the ratings.

the same system works in scientific study. you know when you hear things in the news like 'studies reveal 70% of smokers will die from cancer' etc. etc. they are based on the same principal of a comparatively small number of people that represent an entire population.

there is, however a flaw and i understand how these things can be wrong when for example more people with-out the boxes are watching a show than people with the box.

its a science, but im not sure how exact it is.

It's the quality of the viewer over the quantity in my books ;P

The morrel of the story is, if Lost were to be given the 9:30 timeslot and 7 decided to actually advertise for it for it's "final season", the viewship, no matter how exact the science is, will raise, at least for the first few episodes of season 6.

Re:How many people actually watch LOST Reply to this message
well you guys can look through whatever rose coloured glass you want. but the facts are; no one watches lost. the accuracy of the ratings system has nothing to do with anything. these results, as flawed as they may be, are the numbers that 7 give to advertisers and are the only numbers that matter.

what possible reason would ch7 have to bring it back to primetime? especially if it is the last season.

"but the facts are; no one watches lost."

No one? When the series is airing there's at least 20 of us here posting regularly, not saying only 20 people watch Lost but it's unfair to assume that just because something is put on in a late time slot, that nobody watches it. Scrubs got moved from 11:30 to 8:30 due to constantly growing viewership, same with Family Guy at 9:30.

7 has stopped being supportive of LOST because it's become too complex to gain NEW viewers or casual viewers. Think about it, the most popular show here at the moment is the inane Packed to the Rafters. It requires no thinking, no online investigating, has the most basic plot, basic characters, is based in reality and easy to understand.

Everything Lost isn't.

BUT channel 7 IS going to air Flash Forward which is quite complex and requires suspension of disbelief. If that show rates well, there's a chance they might bring Lost to an earlier timeslot since the two are very similar in ideas (plus the actress who plays Penny is a main character and Dominic Monahan (Charlie) will be starring too) so if they want to keep sci fi viewers watching they should put Lost on after Flash Forward. Lost WAS the first show to have "flash forwards" after all =]

"what possible reason would ch7 have to bring it back to primetime? especially if it is the last season."

The fact that it is the final season would be a great reason to bring it back. So people get a chance to see how it all ends.
