Ponderland didn't exactly outrate LOST Reply to this message
During the 8 ratings weeks that LOST aired in the Wednesday 10:30pm timeslot, it averaged 401,875 viewers.

Ponderland averaged just 431,333 viewers during it's short lived 6 episode series, which wasn't much of a lift on LOST's figures.

The highest LOST rated was 516,000 viewers
The highest ponderland rated was 477,000 viewers

I think that 400,000 odd viewers is quite good considering the following:

-LOST has not been fasttracked--for a series with such high demand, fasttracking is essential
-LOST is NEVER advertised--advertising is the key to success, as experienced by other advertised 10:30pm shows including Scrubs, Boston Legal and Eli Stone. LOST advertising is essential as viewers really cannot afford to miss an episode!
-LOST has been stuffed around with by seven so much in the past--new nights, new times, old times.
-400,000 people manage to stay up so late on a weeknight!
-I thought that the whole purpose of a 10:30pm timeslot was that ratings don't matter! And yet seven are still pushing it out later!

If seven had left LOST on at 8:30pm, it would still have a decent audience. I'm not saying it would still rate 1.8m viewers, but it would have a decent fanbase. Take Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy for example. Seven have given these shows 8:30pm timeslots each year and they continue to rate well, usually about 1.1 million viewers each week.
On a ratings night that seven were consistently winning, surely seven could have kept LOST at 10:30pm for the fans and still won the night. Channel 7, next year give LOST the treatment it deserves and you might find greater ratings success! Thanks for nothing!

LOST's final series average was 334,800 viewers throughout the entire 2009 season.

I think it's to late to move it back and still get a decent amount of viewers though cause when it's on so late late heaps of people have lost all interest in the show and haven't bothered to take any notice of it at all. If they move it back to the 8:30 timeslot I think it WOULD rate better but because only about 400 000 people watch it now there won't be many more who will understand whats going on cause many people left the series during the 3rd season (which I thought was a good one?).

LOST is a great show, but i think we have all accepted the fact that it does not have a fanbase in Australia anymore.

lostlocke26. if there's one thing we all know about ratings it's that you can spin them to tell anything. so i appreciate that you made that effort but if your going to argue that moving LOST earlier will benefit ch7 you are fighting an uphill battle.

i can only advise you to buy a PVR and stop being so glass-half-empty and just be thankful it is still on TV. which is more than any other network in the whole world would do.

lostlocke, if the time is such as issue for you i think you really need a PVR, then it doen't matter when it's on just so long as it is on. which 7 has been good at. believe me it is money well spent, some aren't even that expensive. i suggest everyone in the 21st century should have one by now.

we are very fortunate that 7 has it opposed to any other network. in NZ lost has been at 10:30 since half way through season 3, and season 5 starts in a few weeks at 11:30. and over in the UK they aired season 4 in a late night slot in october and show no signs of showing the 5th. so we don't have much to complain about. and as i said PVR it and the timeslot doesn't matter.

the only point i am trying to put across is that surely we can have a 10:30pm timeslot. I mean, do ratings really matter that much at that time of night??? And seven could have at least replaced LOST with another good quality drama rather than that Ponderland rubbish! I have to go to work, and i would really prefer to go to bed before midnight, not in the early hours of the morning!

i agree that there is no large audience for LOST in primetime, but surely a 10:30pm timeslot won't kill seven. Show some support!

Can we please stop over analyzing LOST's time slot?

It's obviously not going to change as 7 isn't invested in it any more. Even if they were, it's far too complex now for the average Australian TV viewer so it'd be a waste for them to put it in an earlier time slot for a tiny fan base.

Just be glad they're airing it at all.

I hate how the programs go overtime, and ruin my Lost. As they did with the that murder mystery doco.

Oh and Black Shirt Man has to be the smoke monster. lol.
