Hi all
I mentioned last week that I wrote a letter to the complaints department at Channel 7, and today I received a written response which read:
Dear ____
We received your letter and petition dated 8th of May, 2008.
We appreciate the time and energy yourself and fellow fans have taken in expressing your enjoyment of LOST.
We apologise for any inconvenience we have caused by removing this program from its timeslot. Unfortunately, this is the nature of programming and sometimes these programming decisions have to be made from time to time.
You may notice that ABC in the US have also moved LOST to a later timeslot and the content of the show is now darker and stronger. Given this, and the decline in viewer figures over the last two years, we are unable to justify an earlier timeslot for the series.
We have taken your comments on board and appreciate all viewer comments especially as they are a valuable source of insight into viewer attitudes and concerns.
Hopefully you will continue to watch and enjoy the show.

Yes, admittedly Lost may be "darker and stronger" however in terms of content it causes less of a moral dilemna than other shows screened at 8.30 such as CSI which depicts violence, rape, medical procedures and sexual referrences - often depicting scantily-clad women in strip-club murders.
The sole reason for Lost's time-slot change is the ratings battle. |

It is also worth noting that ABC moved Lost to a 9.30 time-slot after advertising the change for several weeks.
Unlike channel 7, they did not advertise a "special time" as if it were a once of; they were honest with their viewers and kept the advertised slot - they also did not move the time back another hour only two weeks later.
Neither (on a personal note) did ABC challenge the intellectual capacity of their viewers to such a degree that a show about "attractive breasts" replaced Lost's previous time-slot. |

and the reason why it got moved to a later time in the US is because of a decline in ratings....
honestly the only reason Lost is any more 'darker' than season 1...is there is less lighting...or more stuff shot at nighttime now.... |

Seriously tho, Trinny and whatever have boobs flashed at every minute: 9:30, ramsay drops the f evry second word: 8 30 (don't get me wrong, I luv ramsay), when calafornacation was on it was on earlier than lost and it had jst about everything!
Surely channel seven aren't dumb enough to see the cycle here. Australia has the highest lost piracy rates in the world.. in the world! And no doubt part of this is due to a *ramsey*ing bad time slot. If they want a good rating season, then the show should be properly fast tracked, as in, same day as US! Then piracy is IMPOSIBLE!
For *ramsey* sake, another thing that piracy has ruined...
The letter oozes patronisation and sickening deflection of responsability. When channl 7 screwe me over mid season before with tresure hunters I was angry. But when they mistreat lost, the only reason why I like their scummy channel, well, I think it can be known how angry I am......... |

| I undrstand the darkness and what not, but the timeslot of 9:30 and the one of 10:30 has nothing to do with it, if it were at 7:30 and maybe 8:30 it would make sense, but no it doesn't |

Yes Mel, I agree totally. Generally after 8.30 is for shows that are inappropriate for a younger audience. The difference between 9.30 to 10.30 makes no sense, not with regards to how dark it is at the moment.
Lets just hope its only for the remainder of this season... |

Ya know, as much as there's all this talk about all the apparently bad stuff on at 8:30 - you don't see teenagers getting shot in the head.
I'm not saying Lost should be moved to later for that, but I can understand their reasoning. There's been a LOT of bloodshed in this season. |

Why have so many people gone on about ratings dropping due to later airing times, when if ratings had remained solid, or improved, the show would never have been moved.
Also, acting like babies and telling them they suck, that they're retarded etc. is hardly a great example of clear communication. You should try harder. |

I still don't see why they can't move it to a different day, if they really want undressing the nation to be on thursday 9:30.
If LOST isn't getting as many ratings as the boob show, why not move it to 9:30 on any other night?
Hey, if you put it on Monday/Tuesday, you may even catch all the people who don't want to watch CSI, CSI: Miami, CSI: New York, NCIS, and all the other crime shows there are! |
