Theory 1: To give him the extra exercise

Theory 2: Messenger Boy, he's the most honest and would easily deliver anything handed over to him.

Theory 3: Last minute change to send him back, it wasn't planned but the others (for some odd reason) had to change their plans at the last minute, and had no choice but to send him back.

Theory 4: They wrote the wrong guy on the list, and they actually wanted Sayid Jarrah or John Locke.

Can I phone a friend? lol, jks

Yeah Number 3 looks like the best one, but then again, number 4 could even be it. Most likely number 2, but if they are really mean, it was number 1, lol

So that he can go back and tell the others so the main group won't try and go there because they warned that if they do they will get hurt

I strongly lean towards 2, i think they planned it from the beginning to have the survivors bring along someone they could easily convince to just go back and warn everyone else to stay away

It was number 2 - they needed someone to message the other people telling em not to go back.
