Charlie is particularly a vehicle for symbolism at the moment & maybe the point is that all mythology, from whichever culture links up. I've got a bit hooked on the Norce/Scandinavian/ German myth of Odin/Wotan where the human hero is Siegfried (Charlie) in the Ring Cycle representing continuity and regeneration. The Actor himself is symbolic of "The Ring" bcos he was a ring bearer in 'Lord of the Rings'. Continuity & regeneration in the passing of the Ring to the baby, T shirt Kanji symbols as scozdawg says for dad. My idea of hammers may also represent the other Norse God Thor. Odin was the God of war.

Dominic's character Merry wasn't a ring bearer in Lord of the rings... there are only 5 bearers: Isildur, Gollum, Bilbo, Frodo and Samwise... I don't see how Charlies ring really connects to that in anyway...

Dom's character, Merry, may not have been a ring bearer but he was in the Fellowship of the Ring so that is the connection. In Lost he leaves a ring for Aaron, but Claire doesn't see it and leaves it behind when she leaves the beach with the rest of the Losties. I hope it's still there when they get back and that she does find it.
