Well my husband and I already have 2 kids. I was going to get my tubes tied but that wasn't an option at the time (more money than we had)! I was only going to keep the Implanon in until we could afford the surgery. I am trying to stay positive and tell myself everything happens for a reason. The doctor could not believe it didn't work, so we have no idea why it failed. I hope other women find this site before getting the Implanon, it is not worth the risk.

Hi,
I'm so glad I've discovered this message board.
I had my implant put in on 18th May and it's being removed next Monday and I can't wait. I started spotting on 16th June and it gradually got heavier. I saw my gp a month ago and she put me on the mini pill to try and get it under control but it got even worse to the point where I'm now on tranexamic acid tablets to slow the bleeding. I've been taken off the pill now as it turns out I'm very sensitive to the hormones in it and the implant and have now been told I must never use hormonal contraceptives.
I'm so fed up. I'm shattered all the time, bleeding all the time, have spots, can't lose weight despite being on weight watchers and losing over 2 stone with them up to all this and have no sex drive at all. I can't wait until Monday.

Got my Implanon in April of this year. I didn't get any side effects except headaches. My periods were a little off but still came once a month....until last month. Out of curiousity took a pregnancy test and to my suprise it came back positive, so I took about 5 more all the same of course. Went to my doc had him do the blood test, and yes I am very pregnant. Had my first OB appt yesterday, he could not feel the Implanon in my arm and told me that he would not be able to remove it and that I would have to go to a specialist that actually does surgery on that part of the arm. So lets see my overall rating of Implanon, IT F%@#*&% SUCKS, IF YOU HAVE IT GET RID OF IT!

I totally know what you mean about the yellowish eyes. I honestly didn't suspect that it was the implanon, and even had a blood test for my liver, as I suspected I had a fatty liver. My liver is fine. I had my implanon removed (I've posted below) and my eyes are returning to a white colour. Scary these side effects aren't they? I'm also finding it easier to lose weight now and I didn't notice it at the time, but I couldn't stand my breasts touched. Overly sensitive. Sorry, too much info I know.

Re:Implanon - effects during Reply to this message
Today I am having my Implanon removed, mainly because as a women of 45years and the symptoms that I am experiancing I was convinced that I was pre-meonopausal, now reading so many of the posted messages I beleive it may be my Implant that is causing them. I think I can take a little bit of each and every message I have read and apply it to myself, after feeling so totally miserable for such a long time, I have hope now, there seems to be only positive response after removal. Fingers crossed that both me and my long suffering family may get some respite from these awful feelings very soon.

Re:Implanon - side effects after removal Reply to this message
Hey there, have been adjusting to life without Implanon. I've had it out since the start of June, my periods have become regular, I've had 2 since its been out. I have noticed a few things, I can't shift the weight I put on, I've been on slimfast for the last 2 weeks and I'm not even down 1lb, also I notice that when I get my period all the side effects I suffered with Implanon seem to come back, my muscles and joints ache and I get bad heartburn, in general I feel way better. I'm just wondering if anybody knew of a natural suppliment or anything which could help with these symptoms. I'm afraid to ask my doctor as I went somewhere else to take it out because she refused to take it out.

Re:Implanon - side effects after removal Reply to this message
Hi there, I am so happy to have found this site, I had the implant put in on the 2nd Feb 09, I have in the last 4 months bled almost continuously, which is not a good thing as I have Endometriosis and Polycystic ovary syndrome. Have been reading everyone's symptoms and I'm blown away that they are allowed to put these things in us. for the first few months I was sooo Hungry, I was exercising 5 to 6 days a week doing cardio, going gym, running and still managed to gain 14 kilos. Now in the last couple of weeks have absolutely no apetite, can't bring myself to look at food, have no energy tired all the time, dry skin, dry scalp, no sex drive which apparently is normal and something the doctor forgot to mention along with all the other side effects, The whites of my eyes are yellow at the moment, I have been to the doctor on a number of occasions telling them there is something wrong with me and they look at me like I'm mad. I have had so many tests and all came back normal. I am so down on myself at the moment, not to mention how mean I am to my husband. Am going to have removed on Thursday, can anyone tell me how long it takes to return to normal or close to....????

Re:Implanon - effects during Reply to this message
I had my implanon removed 1 week and 4 days ago and it was the best thing I ever did. I put up with it for a year and a half and couldn't wait to get it out.

Only now do I realise just how bad my side effects were, the worst and most noticeable for me was the complete disappearance of my libido. I, like so many others have mentioned, couldn't even bare to be touched by my long suffering other half. I knew I still loved him but I couldn't bare the thought of sex. Whenever I tried to have sex it was very painful, best contraceptive method I've ever tried, makes it impossible to have sex! Haha. The worst part of this was I didn’t suspect the implant until AFTER it was removed, I thought there was something wrong with me.

I was also depressed, I bled for 5 months solid with no breaks just before removal, was exhausted, I went from 8st 12lbs to 10st 7lbs even though I run long distance 4-5x a week, cross train and have a balanced healthy diet with no changes. I also developed daily headaches and spots (never had spots in my life, now I have them in my 20's!!)... The list goes on.

Now the good news, it's only been out 1 week 4 days and I've never felt better. The bleeding I'd been stuck with for 5 months previous stopped on the 6th day and my libido returned with gusto on the 8th day after removal. All other side effects, headaches, mood swings, depression, painful sex, exhaustion... All gone!! The only things I'm left with are spots, extra weight and a small scar. Oh and a general disdain for hormonal contraceptives. I'm sticking with condoms for the foreseeable future.

Ok, so I posted two weeks ago just after getting my Implanon out. My periods FINALLY stopped a couple of days after having it removed and I've never felt better. I've been doing Jenny Craig and my losses are MUCH better now and my sex-drive has returned with gusto. Would NEVER have implanon again, 90% of the time over 2 and a half years I had my period.. Now they've stopped and I feel so much happier. Ladies, do NOT have implanon! I have a tiny little scar on my arm, which I rub Bio-Oil into.

Hi All
Just been reading this really helpfull website and its so nice to know i am not alone!! This is my "EVIL STICK STORY"
I had my "evil stick" as i call it put in in october 2008, i had originally gone to be put on the list to have tubes tied as my oldest is 12 and do not want anymore children. The lady at the hospital was really nice and talked me into this amzing implant (pah!!)
The next period i had i went to have it put in.Within weeks the side affects took hold and i was depressed tired and my peirod carried on and on and on!! I went back to the hosp and was given some tablets and assured that these would sort it out. They did for 3 DAYS!! then period came back. So lets re cap i have had constant period since OCT 08.......its now july 09 (oh except the 3 days after the tablets)
My poor partner and kids deserve a medal for putting up with me and "evil stick" We had a romantic break which was nice but couldnt do anything because i was on my period and i have NO sex drive and dont want to be touched let alone cuddle!!
Well i had enough and want my body back!! My appointment is tomorrow only after begging the woman at the hospital and telling her if they dont remove it i was gonna!!
Bit worried about the side affects though????
Will my sex drive return????
Will my moods go away????
would be grateful for some help as the hospital offered me none!!!
I would NOT NOT NOT recommend this implanon implant to ANYBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re:Implanon - side effects after removal Reply to this message
thanks to all the girls who added their personal experiences. they have really helped me. heres mine.
i had implanon for 18 months. after about 6 months i had some light spotting that lasted only a couple of days. a couple of months later, more and heavier spotting. this progressed to heavy bleeding about every 2-3 weeks, lasting 5-7 days.
i would get breast pain but my main problem was total exhaustion. being a fit and active 28yo this was starting to get very depressing. i also started to pick up every cold and flu virus going around.
my doctor informed me it would keep getting worse as my oestrogen kept falling. my doctor offered me an oestrogen patch that could help restore my body to the levels when i first had implanon inserted. this would then start the whole process again.
i opted to have it removed and have started on a new lower dose pill, which contains oestrogen. (im not trying to get pregnant anytime soon)
after only 2 days, my energy is coming back. im already feeling more like me again and looking forward to getting back to my active lifestyle.
i dont regret trying implanon. was worth a try. it also helped that i have a doctor who listens, offers and also explains options that are available to me.
