I got the implanon in nearly 3 years ago and it was great for the first year, after the first month i didnt get any periods but now i get my period for two weeks at a time and some times only have 5 days a month where i dont have it. its rediculous. iv wanted it out since the start of the second year and spoken to about three different doctors about getting it taken out but they just keep saying it should get better and its better than getten pregnant and things like that.. its my body and i think if i want it out i should be able to get it out. so after putting up with it for nearly 3 years and gaining 20 kg i finally get it removed soon. so looking forward to it, but so not happy with the doctors.

thanks chaoticwatto, I have my appointment for tomorrow, not looking forward to it though as I dont think my gp has done this before, at insertion and the attempted removal there was another doctor there who was telling her what to do :S I really hope it comes out, if not I'll have to go to a family planning clinic :(

hey ciara, I'm in the same position, I'm 19 too, parents do take some time convincing but they always come around in the end :) at the end of the day its your body and your choices and I'm sure your partner will support you and when the baby is born it does remove any doubts I think that every one had to begin with, as long as you know what you're doing go for it :)

Re:Implanon - side effects after removal Reply to this message
oh i also forgot to say the reason i want it out, not just what i've read. When i first had it in i had a period for about a month then i had constant spotting for 18 months!! This really annoyed me. It then stopped for a couple of months then started again and now has stopped! I'm really not keen on this. I've also put a bit of weight on and am very snappy. I always have headaches and all i ever want to do is sleep. Again any advice would be much appreciated!

Hiya!

Well i've been reading through and after having the implanon in for over 2 and a half years i'm now a little worried. I'm only 19 and i am due to have it taken out in February (5 months time). However i want it out now. I know i'm a little young to have children at the minute but my only wish is to be a mother and if by having this in my arm i am jeopordising that then i want it out. I'm in a relationship and i've been with him for nearly 3 years and he agrees i should have it out however i'm worried about what my mum will say. Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks Ciara

Hello Everyone,
I had Implanon removed after one year and I am so glad that I did. This is something that doesn't suit everyone and some ladies see it as a new lease in life for them. Its just a shame that the Dr's can't figure out who would be a good candidate first before recommending it. It was wonderful having no periods at all after slight spotting but the effects for me personally almost cost my relationship, mind etc. I turned into a nutcase, no rational thoughts at all. One minute happy next minute tearful. Became quite erratic in fact and some times aggressive. Weight gain, well one bit of advice is if you are concerned with your weight, in my opinion you will gain approx a stone to two unless you have a very, very good met. Any thyroid issues also avoid. I am no Dr, just talking from experience but really check this out before going on it. In one year I have gained 2 stone and can't shift it. Had one period and had it removed in July this year. Still having night sweats, its certainly a contraceptive method because you simply lose all interest and I think thats how it works!!!! Be totally sure before trying this is my only advice and hope this all helps. I am still trying to get back to normal.

Love Bellieeeee xxxx Good Luck

Re:Implanon - side effects after removal Reply to this message
Hi everyone. I got my implanon removed today. I got it in August 2007 6 weeks after my son was born. For the first six months I woke up with severe headaches, had at least 2-3 periods per month, and had severe abdominal cramps. I called my DR and explained to her that this birth control was supposed to keep me from getting pregnant...not keep me from having sex. They told me sometimes it can take awhile for the implanon to work and to give it some more time. Well, I gave it some more time and the headaches did go away, but my periods remained unpredictable. I could go 2-3 months without one..then have 3 light periods in one month. It was very difficult for me and my husband, not to mention I gained about 40 pounds and had on and off acne. So today I got it taken out--and the experience is one that I will NEVER go through again. They numbed my arm the same way they did to insert it, and probed around in the small incision to get it out. It took her about 20 minutes, then she couldn't get my to stop bleeding. She used a "matchstick" looking thing to clot my blood and put the butterfly strip on my arm. Sitting here now my arm is sore and tender. I will use the pill from now on.

Hi, i had the implanon put in in August 2006, I had no problems whatsoever apart from the first week i was a bit pre menstral. I had it removed on august 2007 as i wanted to get pregnant. I fell pregnant in the september and had the implant back in after my son was born. The second implanon was totally different from my first. I have suffered severe headaches, weight gain, stomach cramps, mood swings and irregular bleeding. I was surprised by this as my first one was a dream.I have just had it taken out on the 2.9.09 and the practitioner who removed it advised me that she has heard of this so many times, lots of women had bad experiences with their 2nd implant, she also said that the marina coil a very good alternative with non of the side effects. i might try that and see what its like. Has anyone else experienced this with the implanon?

Re:Implanon - side effects after removal Reply to this message
Hey ladies. I just came on this site today and im saddened by everyones experience on implanon. I had my implanon put in on Jun 22nd '09 so aprox 3 months ago. The first maybe 3 weeks i did experience some headaches. I have not had a normal period since i had it in. The first two months i did spot randomly, it was very light. for the last month i havent spotted at all though. I also have no PMS symptoms like i did before. I used to have severe cramps and major mood swings and i havent had any of that since having the implanon.
I also havent gained or lost any weight.

So far I like having the implanon but reading about all your experiences scares me a little. I wont be taking it out just yet... Ill wait a little longer and see how it goes. and ill be updating on here.

Hope you all feel better and get back to your normal selves soon.

Diana

Hello. My wife got implanon about 3 1/2 mos ago and recently she has been having a lot of hair loss. The Doc was not upfront with us about this side effect. At any rate, she is getting it removed next week. My question is, will her hair grow back or is the damage permanent? If anyone knows anything, preferably from experience, I would greatly appreciate it. I would ask the Dr but he clearly has honesty issues.

I just had my implanon removed 2 days ago. after the dr gave me a local anestetic, she couldn't feel where the top of the rod was. she ended up making 3 different inscisions in my arm. As far as side effects...i have had alot of hair loss and i didn't think it was a side effect.i was trying to find an explanation for it. any advice as to how long it will take for my period to return?! dr said to wait 2 cycles to try to get pregnant but i want to know how long it can take for it to return...(i know each woman is different)

Hooray! I have had my Implanon removed. Had it out yesterday and it went really well. I was a bit scared after reading some of the posts on here but my implant came out like a dream. I am just hoping that it won't take me long to get pregnant as I just can't WAIT!!

Took my bandage off today and just got a waterproof plaster over the butterfly stitch/gauze. It hurts a little and I think there is some bruising, but it is not too bad. Glad to be free of the weight gain and bleeding that I was having with the implant. Good luck to all those still waiting to have theirs out or that are trying Implanon for the first time, it might work for you, it didn't for me!

I will be having my Implanon removed next time after the 3rd attempt. They couldn't find the end in the GP's, so went to a specialist and he couldn't locate it with a mini ultrasound so i will be going into hospital for them to find it. My period was soooo unpredictable and I went from being around 70kg to over 90kg. I will NEVER get one implanted again. Probably one of the worse decisions that I made. From reading the posts on here, not many others will get one again. Good luck to everyone trying to fall pregnant. I know I will

Re:Implanon - side effects after removal Reply to this message
I have been reading through all the messages and i have found some of the information very interesting and good to know. I had the implanon in for 7 years and never had a period. I have just found out there is a chance i may have Polycystic Ovarian Disease and have been advised to remove the implanon (which i have done) and wait for 2 periods (within 2 months the doc said). I had it removed nearly a month ago and nothing. Should i be worried? I cannot go onto any other contraceptive due to it effecting ultrasounds, and have had unprotected sex with my partner. I have done 2 preg test and both negative. Anyone got any suggestions for me? Should i have had a period yet?

I am so happy to have found this forum, reading all the girl's articles has made me feel like I'm not suffering alone....It has taken me 2 years to finally work out what the bloody hell is wrong with me,Its my implant! I have had no periods at all while on Implanol which I would say is the only positive thing about this contraception, but how healthy is that for your body? I suffer with the most intense mood swings, major depression where my GP wanted to put me on anti-depressants,No sex drive at all, bad skin, tired and lethargic for no reason, weight gain 10kg in 2 years and I am very short. I just feel so sad and guilty about how I have treated my husband and kids these last few years, I dont know how they have put up with me....

crzy_heartless_angel1 : The Doctor is only Supposed to just put it just under the skin. When i had the implant put in or taken out i would go to a family clinic and get it done not a GP because i have heard to many stories of GP'S not inserting it in properly and alot of ladies have had problems with it. or gotten pregnant by a GP doing it. but dont be scared Go to a Family planning clinic. Good Luck with whatever you decide.

I would go to your GP about that, Because you might be having a reaction to it. Or something else. Go and see your doctor.

I had my implanon insterted about a month after my son was born back in Janurary. About 6 months ago I noticed i was having major hair loss, anxiety, acne and mood swings. I didn't think too much about it because everyone kept telling me that my body was doing all these weird things because i just had a baby. well, my son is almost nine months now and my hair just keep falling out in clumps, my face looks awfully pocked for a 22 year old and i cant stop feeling like i cant breath sometimes. Has anyone had the implanon removed and had a cease fire of their side effects? Most importantly, will my hair grow back??

thanks :) I'm going to try asking them for that and hope that it comes out in the end!

annoyingly I have to wait for another 2 weeks to go the next appointment, my gp is so big on me not taking it out she keeps nagging about it :S I dont think they should be allowed to put pressure.
