Kate,
I had the same thing happen to me. It was taken out in the hospital just over 3 weeks ago. They left me with a bigger than normal scar plus a second one. Its not fun but at least I was out for it. Good luck and let us know how it all goes

| OMG!!! I have had implanon for almost a year(the 6th of October is a year) and I have always had low blood pressure so low during labor i had to have oxygen and stay in bed..... all of a sudden my blood pressure has doubled and I have gained so much weight... Im on an extremely restricted diet... I cant wait to get this thing out of my arm. You have to let me know how yours goes because I have to have the samething done... too far deep in!! If I would have known all of this I would have NEVER gotten this done! |

| Hi all, I have had implanon in for 3 years and am due to get it removed this week. the first 6 months was heaven! no periods at all. after this they begun to be irregular. i didnt mind this for the first year but then they started getting very bad. i could be on a period for 2 weeks with 2 days off and then have another period! other than this i have experienced some weight gain in the past 3 years and it is impossible to loose any weight. i have also experienced some depression in the past year that may be caused by the use of implanon. i wouldnt however discourage people from trying this form of contraception. i think people should see if it suits them- if it does suit you it would be a easy form of contraception. I am now worried about getting it removed, but hopefully some of the problems i have beeen experiencing lately will disappear! |

| To r.singleton19, You NEED to advocate for own health! I too am 20 years old and had my implanon taken out on Monday. I almost immediately noticed a decline in side effects which much resembled those of pregnancy. I am now on Nuva Ring. So far, I've only had mild cramping. The best part is, if I really end up hating it, I can just take it out. Ultimately, you need to demand that they take it out. You know your body better than any doctor!! And if you were wondering, mine didn't hurt to have taken out. Best wishes! |

I am 20 years old and have had the implanon in since April 2008 and have had periods (really heavy) for three weeks at a time and then a very short little break before coming on again!!! I suffer really bad from mood swings and head aches too.. I have today had my implanon out today and am hoping that I will go back to normal... If you do not want kids, could you not go on the depot or have a coil fitted??? x |

| i hate to say I had the implanon removed a week ago from having a severe allergic reaction. I experienced heart palpitation called PVC's, bad acne, highly oily skin, shortness of breath, headaches, moodswings, shakes, eyes feeling as if they are going to close on me. I felt faint also. I was admitted to emergency and was told I had a severe allergic reaction. I had it removed put on prednisone and after 5 days now still feeling ran down and oily stomach feel like full of acid when I have the heart palpitations and eye problems. I wish I can sue there as---. I am very upset because I have children to take care of as a single mom and now I am afraid if I will be alive to take care of them. I am now left with heart issues all above all over again. Its been out for a week and still do not have a period. CLUELESS please spread the word not to use this product. |

| I had my implanon in for over 2 1/2 years. I was very satisfied with it because I never got pregnant, though it does have its downfalls. The first year, i did not see any weight gain, but then after the 1st year ended things got worse. I had periods either evey other week or didn't have it for months at a time. I also put on 35lbs. It really depressed me. It has been out of my arm for a month now, and I am starting to feel like myself again. In order to lose some of the weight, I did have to change quite a bit with my diet and start taking the ultra 90 and I am officially losing weight and feeling better. I just wonder how soon after having it removed can I get pregnant? |

I have been on depo for 6 years now and i have gained alot of weight plus the doctor said just in general that i should get off of it. im torn between the IUD and the implanon. i think im defintly not gettin the IUD cuz of the wires that hang down into the cervix that can poke your patner during intercourse...im so confused |

I have had my Implanon out for 3 weeks and so far have lost no weight even though I am on a very restrictive diet. I don't know whether this is down to the Implanon or my metabolism or if my metabolism has changed due to having the Implanon in, in the first place... Good luck! |

| Hi i had the implanon removed on the 31st July 09 due to it getting infected constantly. I had it in since May 09, after i had my baby. I had a period as soon as it was taken out which lasted 2 weeks. Since then i havent had a period, i am now on progesterone tablets to help as my levels were low. Anyone else had this? |

| you could try the depot (injection) progesterone or even the minipill. even though they both are progesterone, they have a different chemical structure to the implant so the side effects are often different. |

| I had my implanon for 1 year now. I have always been slim, never putting on weight. In the last year i have put on over 10kg. I am getting my implanon removed next wednesday and want to know how long it usually takes to lose the excess weight. Other than the weight gain i have had no bad side effects at all. It has been great. No periods in a year, not looking forward to that returning. |

Thank God I have found this forum,
I have had the implanon in for 20 months...I hate it!! I suffer from Diabetes and my GP says its the best thing for a diabetic. I have asked for it to be removed but they said unless i have a really good reason they won't...But whats a better reason than constant head ache, really heavy (like clots) beeding 2/3weeks out of 4weeks a month, and mood swings, I'm desperate for it out :-( I'm 20 years old don't really want a baby but do i have any other choice?
Thanks x |

| After reading all the messages on here I feel sorry for all you ladies. I have had implanon in for 2 years now I LOVE IT, I have had no peirod no side effects. My daughter is 6 and i havent had pms since she was born (was on the depo for 4 years after) I can say for myself it is better than the shot. Im having it removed on Wensday, we are going to try for a second child. My only concern is that since i havent had a peiord in 6 years how long will it take to get preg. I hope not long. After we have another child I was going to get my tubes tied. I think I'm just going to get implanon again. I hope everyone has better luck with something else. Everyone is different. |

Hi there! I'm so glad I found this site! I have been reading everyone's posts about Implanon and feel like sharing my story. I have an 8 month old baby and have had the implanon in for about 2 1/2 months. I thought I was going mad thinking that I may be pregnant again! I've had all the symptoms, sore breasts, swollen/bloated abdomen, sore back and night sweats (I had night sweats while pregnant) and even heartburn and reflux!! I have also been extremly moody, snapping at my poor Husband, have had 'baby brain' again, have gained about 5kg, have headaches, have been very lethargic and tired and have bad skin on my back. I thought all these symptoms were due to stress (we recently moved house), but after reading all these posts, I really do believe it is bacause of this 'thing' in my arm. My husband is also convinced and jokes about chopping my arm off!! Poor thing!
During the 1st month and a half after having it implanted, I bled for 5-7 days 3 times!! Twice was really heavy and once was extremly light. I have had days of light spotting too. Speaking to a girlfriend recently, she has been experiencing all these symptoms too!
I just have to say that after almost 3 months of having this 'thing' in my arm that it is coming out asap!! I just really hope I can loose the weight I put on!
Will let you know how the removal goes!! |

| Hi jessi_rae2003. I go the Implant about 9 months ago, and started noticing hair loss after about 4 months. At the time I didn't think too much of it, but now I'm losing so much hair I'm afraid to shower because I see so much coming out and in the drain after. I'm having my Implant removed ASAP, since this is the only change I made before the hair loss started. I wasn't told about this side effect (although it seems to be one of the less common ones), and when I told the docs they dismissed the idea that it could be connected to my implant straight away. Looking at forums has shown me that this is a far more common side effect then the doctors admit!! Other than the hair loss my Implant has been great, no periods or weight gain, which was why I left it so long to get it removed!! Please let me know if your wife does have improvement in her hair after removal, as I am afraid I will be stuck with this hair loss forever!! And if anyone else has had this problem please let me know if you got your hair back. |

Hello again all! Well, at 10:00pm last night I went to the ER due to complications from the removal of my implanon. I had it taken out Friday (if you read my posts below), and it was the regular brusing from the anesthetic and removal. I came on my period Sunday, which was very heavy and crampy.
Well Sunday & Monday my incision site began to ooze this greyish brown pus. After going through 6 steri-strips I went to the ER at 10:00pm. The pain was horrible. Come to find out it is infected, and I was told to leave the steri-strips off, cover with antibiotic bacetracin and a band-aid to let it drain. I was given TWO shots...on both sides of the buttox (very painful by the way). Then I was prescribed more anitibiotics to take home, and more stronger pain-killers.
I am so upset. All of this because of that implanon! I get it taken out to stop the crazy all over the place periods, the weight gain, and headaches...and this is what I get. I just might sue. |
