| I can totally relate! I had the birth control put in right after my daughter was born in July and i just had it taken out last month its awful its almost like bi-polar feeling ! you cannot control yourself have your daughter take it out! The sooner the better further more i dont know why they would put it in her my doctor only will put it in women who have had children due to the fact that you may not be able to conceive again yes its not likely to happen but you never know! I have noticed alot of change already and its only been a week but now i am spotting pretty bad even on my bc pills everyones body is different but i would have hers taken out good luck i hope she gets better ! |

| Hi toni, I had my implanon removed on 17th Nov and had a really heavy period about 3 days after, then nothing for about a week and a half, and now I'm bleeding again. It seems to be following the same pattern it had when the implant was in - I hope it will settle down though, I miss having a predictable cycle. I had it removed mainly because of the irregular bleeding, thinking it would return to normal straight away, but it doesn't seem to have done. You posted quite a while back, have things settled down for you yet? Personally, I think the implant is more trouble than it's worth... |

Hi there,
I totally sympathise with you. I have had implanon in now for four years. Before implanon i took the pill and had no nasty side effects or changes in my mood. I have never suffered from PMS...however dont get me wrong, I am human and still have the odd days of stress etc. I am a healthcare professional therefore I try to stay as healthy as I can. I just wanted to be normal for a while.Well IR (Implanon removal) day arrived last friday (29.11.08). As usual preparation of my arm for treatment was made (all was normal). It was not a long procedure, only taking approximately 15 min to remove post local aneasthetic. Bandage was applied to arm to prevent bruising (all is well). Being the active person I am, i decided to go home post removal and do a little work out with weights. After workout I took bandage off and drank a cappicino which my partner had purchased for me from maccas (all is well). We decided to go for a drive to the local sports shop. I was driving. Not even five minutes of driving and within appoximately one and a half hours post removal of implanon i felt a wave of fear...doom...head spin....and difficulty in breathing..strange metallic taste in my mouth.Me being the health professional i am..put this down to a side effect of the local aneasthetic. Understanding the effects of medications on the body can sometimes be very distressing. I thought the local aneasthetic had caused heart problems with the difficulty in breathing. My partner called the ambulance...by this stage i was shaking profusely and still trying to diagnose myself. Arrived in ED with waves of anxiety and fear. Of course the doctors could find nothing wrong with me..and decided they would like to label me with anxiety...I have never suffered anxiety in my life. For three days I suffered cloudyiness in the head, excessive tiredness, irrational thoughts of my partner trying to drug me...I am over this now but just feel tired. I have really doubted my own sanity. |

| I had the Implanon fitted in November 2006, I had just turned 18 and after being on countless different brands of the Pill but most commonly experiencing weight gain, my Doctor recommended the Implant. A friend of mine had it fitted and also recommended it. At first I had no side effects and thought it was great as I didnt need to remember to take it. However after a few months I noticed my periods were much heavier and I was experiencing bad PMS (wheras before the implant I had regualar periods and not bad PMS) I also noticed myself feeling increasingly angry and moody and I got stresed out at the smallest of things (I was even signed off work for a couple of weeks due to this) Niavely, I didnt beleive this to be side effects and put all this down to growing up. One of the main things I noticed howver was my decreased sex drive. My boyfriend and I had previously enjoyed a regular active sex life but now I completely went off it and didnt even like my boyfriend suggesting it. I started to realise this must be something to do with the Implant and I eventually booked an appt to get it removed a few weeks ago and got it removed nearly two weeks ago now. At first I didnt notice much change, I had a really heavy bleed for a few days but now its gone. However the main thing I have started to notice in the past few days is my mood - I feel very anxious and even today coming to work scared me (I cant explain the feeling, its horrible) Also I have comletely gone off my boyfriend. I have never ever felt like this but I just dont find him attractive and dont feel like kissing or having sex with him. I even considered breaking up with him last night. I dont know whats wrong with me but I just feeling like bursting out in tears and am just so confused about my boyfriend, he is a great guy and we get along so well, so why all of a sudden after getting it removed do I feel no connection with him? I would appreciate any replies back, Thanks |

Hi there,
I am a healthcare professional..I have had implanon in for 4 years now...I experienced mild symptoms of aggression and short temper whilst it was in my arm. I lead an active life..play sport and am generally happy.
After removal of implanon..within about i hour..i experienced an overwhelming feeling of doom...i couldnt breathe and ended up in the emergency department...because they recon they couldnt find anything wrong with me..they tryed to label me with anxiety...however i am usually the most happy go lucky person...who normally tells others not to "Stress" I thought i was insane...i thought everyone was out to get me...and even accused my partner of trying to drug me. after about three days my mood started to get back to normal however i still feel tired and unmotivated.
Your poor daughter is experiencing the effects of hormone treatment...and dont let the doctors label her with any other mental health issues. I really dont think that doctors understand the full effects of this treatment and its not till it happens to them will they be forced to take a good look at this hormonal treatment.
I hope all becomes well for you....and she needs lots of love and support after the removal of implanon.
Take care |

hi there
I am a healthcare professional...and these things arent meant to happen to me....but this experience of implanon removal has really made me question my sanity. I had Implanon in for around 4 years...I was sick of bleeding irregulary and drying of secretions.
Just wanted to make you feel normal. Im sorry to hear about your symptoms. I had implanon removed 3 days ago and feel not normal. within one hour of removal i had an overwhelming feeling of doom...like i was going to die. while it was in my arm, i felt ok...but when it was removed i thought people were against me, i felt overwhelmed with emotion. I thought my partner was trying to drug me. I feel tired all the time...although this feeling is passing.
After 3 days of removal i am starting to get back to my usual self however...I still dont feel completely normal.
Good Luck girl |

I have been having this problem since i started, at first it was the odd spot here and there (which was bad enough because i never used to get spots) now the right side of my face is scarred from a mass of really awful spots, like the ones that hurt and feel like there is something underneath.
Did your skin recover after you had it taken out? Im due to have mine out in March 09 |

Hi There,
Im new to this site also. I first had my Implanon put in in November 2001. I was one of the first people that my doctor had done. I loved it! I never once got a period, weight gain or mood swings and I continued to have them put in and out until October last year when i wanted to start to have children. To my surprise it took only two days from when I took it out to become pregnant! couldnt believe it. At my 6 week check after the birth I had my ob put another implanon back in, however, this time around I have been experiencing periods - not happy! It seems as though my body has changed after giving birth. After having it in for 6 years straight, it seems the 9mth break did me no favours. has this happened to anyone else? |

Hi all, firstly ERICA....you sound so unhappy. Get that thing removed asap!! no one has the right to decide what goes into your body. Go to another doctor if you have to. You can try the coil or the injection or good old fashioned condoms! You do not have to have the implant.
Secondly, I have been moaning on this site about not getting pregnant! Well finally 10 months after removal I am pregnant!! It will happen to all of you who are still waiting. Everyone tells to you stop obsessing about it but it is so hard. I got a kitten and gradually stopped thinking about a baby cause he was so wild and playful, the next thing I knew I was pregnant so I would recommend something to take your mind off it if you are still trying.

| I agree with Laura, I curiously did a search on the Implanon because I have recently started to believe that it is making me aggressive, moody and unmotivated. I have gained nearly 15 kg since having it put in. The weight didn't come all at once but my dietary intake has not increased and my excercise patterns have not decreased. I don't weigh myself regularly and did for the first time since having the implanon a few days ago and was shocked at how much weight I had put on. I liked the implanon initially, however recently have started to question why I feel so different. Being 19 I figured it may have something to do with maturity and becoming wiser haha. Previous to reading these blogs I felt as if I was using the implanon as an excuse. Like Laura my boobs have grown even bigger to a 36 F. Sex drive is pretty much no longer existent hence I am not sexually active and feeling gross for no real purpose. Thanks ladies for helping me make the decision to have it removed. |

Hi Ladies,
U scare me dead. I put on Implanon in July 2007 due to heavy bleeding which made me aneamic. For the first 6 months everything was ok but things started getting worse beginning seventh month, serious cramps,URI, terrible abdominal, back pains and headaches and I thougt could be the experiences would go away but i was long. I have discussed this with my hubby and have agreed the removal. Girls I'm 38 years and not intending to have a fourth child but I'm fed up with all contraceptives and would go natural. At least i need to rest from all the hell assocaited with contraceptives. |

hey guys
ive had implanon now for about a year and a half.
ever since about a month after having it put in i always felt tired, moody, worthless, i get really bad headaches and stomach pain and worst of all i feel like everyone is against me. im only young and the reason the doctor put me on it was because i was alergic to the pill and it was slowly killing me and now because i cant be on the pill he or my parents wont let me get it removed.
i have forever got my period.. i have it for about 2 weeks staright it goes away for about 5 days and comes straight back again. but the worst time was when i first got it put in and i had it for about 4 months..
im that low in iron that the doctors couldnt believe i could still get up in the morning. because im so moody i have lost alot of people around me including my bf.. i was so moody all the time that he just couldnt handle me and i couldnt control what i was doing. ive never infliced harm on my self but since i cant control myself im scared that one day i might. i have put on so much weigh, and my skin has gone really bad, i used to have great skin but now i break out so much and it just really upsets me that the doctor or my parents wont take me off it. sometimes i get so depressed i just want to cut it out myself. and the worth thing is im not sexually active they just put me on it 'just in case' but i just think its so unfair.. how would they like it if it was happening to them. can anyone help me? |

Hey I was just reading your post and had a few questions. I am 19 yrs old and had the Implanon removed 2.5 weeks ago. I had it for just under a year but had awful headaches everyday. Since I have had it taken out I have been feeling a little nauseous off and on through out the day nearly everyday.. Is that a symptom that you have had since your removal of the Implanon?
I have been on the pill since it was removed and was curious as to whether my body was adjusting and thats what was causing the nausea or if pregnancy is the only other explanation. Pregnancy is the only other thing that has come to mind but idk that I could be considering I have been protected. I haven't been able to find anyone w.the same symptoms. |

I am so PLEASED that I have spent the last 20 minutes reading all these posts!!
I had the implanon out a week ago as I was to lose weight that I had put on! I am serious fitness and health freak, I was been working SO hard to shift it but NOTHING! Also had the whole milk thing, boobs grew from 32D-32F!!!! Moody, snappy, misearble, my sex drive is ok but I felt RUBBISH about myself all the time that my Fiance asked me to get it taken out! I was really bloated the whole time, had AWFUL cramps in what felt like my ovaries, has scans and everything but could only put it down to the bolt" as it's commonly known in our house!
It hurt a little, but I am excited about hopefully shifting some pounds and getting back into my clothes.
We are going back to condoms to give the body a well deserved rest then going to try the persona, I hate the thought of ever having extra hormones pumping through my body, failng the persona, the last resort will be old fashioned coil with no hormones.
I have felt agressive, angry, impatient and what hideous since, but I'm sure these side effects will subside! |

| I have removed implanon over 1 month ago and was expecting to conceive but no luck--yet. I guess the body is taking time to adjust. One or two months is too little to be anxious, but I believe your worry is not helping matters. Relax and do not worry. You will have good luck soon |

| Yeah... i agree with candic80. someone needed to say it. as harsh as it may be. but lets not fault a mother for being illiterate or uneducated, if she sees value in education despite her own lack of one and instills that value on her children then she's a good mother and she is doing a good job. ignorance in our society is a choice, that is one thing for certain... |
