I would also say dont worry about the removal.. im allergic to the anaesthetic so had to have it removed without and i found it quite pain free considering the procedure and im the kind of person who cries at a headache!

Hiya im 20 had my implanon removed a few weeks ago due to periods every 2nd week and major weight gain. As yet i have only had very light bleeding for a couple of days and am desperatly trying to loose the weight. I cant believe so many people have had such problems with it, these things are not mentioned when they insert it! even when i went to get it removed the nurses refused to aknowledge it causes weight gain.
For those facing a long wait to have it removed if you are desperate i would suggest that here in Luton there is two sexual health walk in centres Brook (Under 25s) and The Lodge (over 25s). I had mine removed at Brook and as long as you have not had unprotected intercourse in 7 days they will take it out the same day. You also do not need to be registered with them or even have an appointment so i would suggests looking for such services in your area.

Hi again just reading through all the messages and really feel that everyone has different side effects. the only prob i found on it was acne and irregular periods lasting from maybe 1-3 weeks then off for a week then back again as i said very irregular, my sex drive even higher no hair loss, no mood swings no weight gain etc. i also think it depends on age. i really think this is a good forum but i do believe that the implant effects everyone differently. i've now decided to use a cap which contain no hormones.

Hi everyone aged 25 just new to this cause i've just had my implant removed 2day and i decided against having another put in. due to family history i can only go on progesterone only contraceptives so slightly peed off cause this doesn't help skin eg acne. ok so before this i was on depo then the implant my skin was never that bad but always had spots just on my face. so start of last year decided i was very pis*ed off. i'm now at the end of roacctuane. i feel this is because of the contraceptives.

hello
I had Implanon in for about a year before getting it taken out to fall pregnant which i did within abt 3 months. I didnt have a period the whole time and got it back as normal within a month of having it out. The only side effect I noticed was I sprouted a hairy chin but this may be a coincidence. I've had this one for 2 years with no problems and once again no period..until I had lap tube surgery 6 months ago. For the last 4 months I have been getting a period evry 2 wks which last abt 3-4 days but still reluctant to get it out hoping my body will settle back down. I have just read though abt low sex drives some of you have noticed so wondering if the Implanon is to blame for that. Maybe I should get it out!! Belle

I am so glad someone else has gone through the same thing. What herbal pills did you take to help you loose weight? Also I have been reading that Implanon can stop your Pituitary glad from producing hormones naturally which is why its hard to loose the weight. Has anyone else heard of this and does anyone know how to kick-start your Pituitary glad into life again?

mmm hmmm........Take it out Darling. You will continue to gain weight slowly and consistenly as long as you have it in. I had it in for 14 months and couldn't work out why i was gain weight as i am naturally small and my eating or excising habits haven't changed to contribute to the weight gain. My doctor confirmed that weight gain as well as other nasty side effects were common, so i had it removed last week and it hasn't even been out for a week but i already lost 2 kilos! It works for some women but was absolutely terrible for me.

My implanon was removed last week after having it in for 14 months. The reason was because i had no sex drive at all even to the point where i couldn't stand seeing him naked as well as having gained 16 kilos without even eating more or excersing less. Believe it or not but i lost 2 kilos in less than a week and i have fallen in love with my man again who has been putting up with my shocking mood swings and lack of sex drive. Everyone reacts to the implanon differently but i made a vow to never have that thing in me ever again.

I had the implanon in after my first son was born but had it removed after five months because i bleed for literally 5 months straight and was sick of it. I fell pregnant within the first month and obviously didn't even get a period, luckily we were planning on having more just not so soon :)

Re:Implanon - effects during Reply to this message
Hi All,
I had mine removed today, lots of cutting and some stitches later (due to the fat) I am so happy it is over. I have only had the Implanon for 7 months and in that time have gone from a Size 10 to a Size 14 and I just keep growing even with exercise/diet I had to buy new clothes every 2nd month. For the last 4 months have had no sex drive....poor hubby. Didn't have any periods for the last 5 months, so that was a good thing. If you have lost your sex drive you should go see your Dr it isn't as awkard as you think, I went on the Implanon becuase I lost mine on the Pill and put off seeing the Doctor for a year, he did a simple blood test and said my hormones were a wreck. Going off the pill fixed it so thought I would try the Implanon. Don't know what I will use now but go see your Dr if you know your sex drive isn't what it used to be, don't put off something that affects your relationship and your emotional wellbeing you will feel so much better afterwards.

Re:Implanon - side effects after removal Reply to this message
Sorry to take so long to reply but I am a busy "balding" working mum! Since we mailed each other I have started/made changes to my life. The "tapping" that my reflexologist has taught me is fantastic, I have started yoga, cut out caffeine (only one per day, rest is water or green tea) so yes although severely stressed I'm trying to sort myself out naturally. Thanx for your idea of herbal oil for my scalp I am now so desperate I will try anything! Please do try "tapping" for your panic attacks/anxiety I truly mean it when I say that it has helped to calm me down! By the way you're not a "fatty" when you say you have put weight on I did too initially (6 years ago) with my first implant and haven't lost it to date! Just something else you learn to live with. Good luck with your issues and please please try "Emotional Freedom Therapy" ("tapping"), it is truly relaxing ..........

Re:Implanon - conceiving after it? Reply to this message
Your story sounds very similar to mine. I had it removed due to hair falling out, extreme tiredness, loss of libido, muscle aches, depressed, mood swings, lots of crying....i was bleeding constantly and i gained so much weight. After removal I noticed a slight to huge difference in all of these side effects that I was having. But no change in my weight even with exercise and and eating hardly anything. I would lose 3 lbs but then gain 5 lbs right back. My implant was inserted in Sept 07 at that time I weighed 147, which was 6 weeks after having a baby. At removal I weighed 163 lbs. After no hope in losing all that nasty weight I started taking these herbal pills in Nov 08 and as of Jan 28th I weigh 137.5 lbs. I can't believe that I ever gained that much weight I still have a ways to go, but I feel like a new human.

Re:Implanon - conceiving after it? Reply to this message
Hi everyone, my message isn't really a reply to anyone on here but I am really down after having Implanon removed over a year ago and wondered if anyone else is still suffering? I had it removed due to hair falling out, extreme tiredness, loss of libido, muscle aches, slight depression and gaining 2 stone. My period returned after 6 weeks so I thought I was back to normal. After 6 months I returned to the doctor because my hair was still falling out, I couldn't loose the weight no matter how hard I worked at the gym and how much I cut back on calories. I had no energy and found it hard to even walk up the stairs sometimes. He did blood tests and everything came back normal. Now a year on I feel no better, my hair is still falling out, I'm tired and still have all the weight I gained. I have my honeymoon in 3 months and I want to be able to enjoy it and not feel this way. I had to go through my wedding feeling fat despite trying everything to loose weight. Has anyone else suffered like this? I just need to feel I am not alone. I really don't know what to do.

Re:Implanon - conceiving after it? Reply to this message
hi ladies, a little help please? I had my implanon in for 3yrs and 2 months (meant to have been removed after 3yrs) i had it removed on the 7/1/09, a little over 2 wks b4 this i had my periods, then they returned a day after they had stopped, this is unusual as my periods are "textbook" even on the implanon, i finished the second week of bleeding the day i had the implanon removed. Fistly why did my periods return a day after? and secondly using the dates of the second week of bleeding i was meant to get my periods a few days ago, we are hoping to have a baby, i did a test and it was negative, when should i expect my period to return? Please help...going insane. Thanks...

Re:Implanon - conceiving after it? Reply to this message
Hello

I am now coming to the end of the second year of my second implanon (5years altogether!) and, for anyone worrying about whether or not to have one inserted, I thought I should say that I have had absolutely no problems with mine.

I do have two periods a month but that doesn't really bother me that much. It's a small price to pay for stress free contraception!

I chose to have the implant after the birth of my first child when I was 21 but now things have changed. My partner and I are thinking about trying for another baby, but it seems in London this may be more difficult than it sounds. My nurse told me I have to sign up to a waiting list to have my implant removed as there are more doctors trained to fit the implant than there are to remove it. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I also wanted to say thank you for the encouraging comments about conceiving after implanon removal. I was worried that it would take years to become fertile again or that there would risk of problems for the baby if we didn't wait to conceive. So I think we'll just give it a try and hope for the best!

Reply to "Fat Thin Girl"

I didn't really have any soreness when my implanon was removed. I had a bruise and that was it. My period is really heavy and my stomach pains/cramps are just horrible.

Don't be scared about having the Implanon removed. I just had my removed last week because I was putting on so much weight. The procedure takes about 15 minutes and your left with a small bruise. I had no soreness what so ever.
