| I have had two implants (just under 5 years in total) and with the exception of having two periods in a row while on the implant I have experienced no side effects, while using it and afterwards..... to my knowledge. But everyone is so different. I suppose only time will tell if everything has gone back to normal fo me, fertility-wise. |

| hi there. i am on my second implant now and i have read a lot about it. basically your body doesn't start functioning properly for at least 3 months after the removal of the implant.the chances of getting pregnant again are close to 0 but there is still a chance. good luck!! |

I was wondering if anyone could help or had had a similar experience.... I had my implanon out on 25th Feb and began bleeding on the 26th. I am pretty sure this was a period as it wasn't just spotting or even just blood, it was clearly the lining of the womb coming away which lasted four days (just a little shorter than my period pre-implanon)... sorry if that was a bit graphic!
Although we are ready to try for another baby, I would be perfectly happy for now just to know that my body is returning to normal and that I am ovulating as I should be... I have taken ovulation tests for the past few days and so far... nothing.
Please help!
I was wondering if periods/bleeding can occur after removal and for ovulation NOT to happen, without there being a major problem? Has anyone else taken a while to begin ovulating again?
thanks xxx |

HI, I NEED HELP,
I got my Implanon put in last week, becuase I am going to college and didn't want to take the pill. My period started the next day and hasn't stopped, AT ALL. That is so not like me. Before I was on the pill, and was fine, just regular periods. And even before i was on anything i had light three day periods. What I was wandering, has ANYONE had any good things happen from this Implanon, or is it just a way for doctors to make money and make us their ginipigs. Please someone tell me what the best thing to do. Should I wait it out, and see what happens. Or should I get it out while I can. |

| Hiya, i had my inplanon removed on the 24 December 09 and was thinking i would get pregnant straight away after reading the implanon site. for the last 3 years on my second implanon i had regular periods give or take a week or so. So when it came to January and expecting my first period after removal ii never came. i thought i was pregnant as i was getting a few systems. Anway was negative. Feb came and i had a spotting for 4 days but had the normal systems for a period to start. So March has just arrived and now nothing, i have had systems for over a week for my periods to start, boobs saw, legs and back aching, abit moody. I'm really sick of it now and don't want to keep wondering all the time am i pregnant as it give too much false hope. Now do i do another test or do i wait and see what happens next month? |

Hi there,Iv just come across this site(which I find really helpful) Like you my 1st implant was fine,no side effects, bleeding, nothing! !Great!
My 2nd was great for the 1st year, same as 1st.Then it changed and Iv been having heavy periods every second week!
My mood changes so often I find it hard to keep up with myself!(what chance does my poor boyfriend have?)
1 minute Im up the next Im down for no reason at all?
My hair has definatly got thinner to!Not as bad as some of you here though!
I decided to have it removed so on 10/02 I had it out!
Its been out for 22 days now and Iv had no period since!
My mood swings hav'nt changed yet, more tearful if anything.
Im doing things naturally for a while and hopefully things will change for the better!Im worried there might be more side effects after removal.Ill post more if I have any more changes.
Good luck with your removal.Hopefully all side effects will stop! |

| Im reading all of the comments and I have had a lot of the side effects, however, I didn't realize that the saddness and modiness was escalated by the implant. Other side effects I experience include WEIGHT GAIN! Although my Dr. insisted that that was not the case. I gained 40 30 - 40 punds at a steady rate. I saled past some sizes and finally couldn't take it anymore. I had IMP (for short) inserted in March of 07 and had it removed Feb 2 09. I have not had a period since it has been removed (not a spot or anything) and I have negative pregnancy tests. I called my Dr and she said to give it two more weeks and then come in for blood pregnancy tests. We are trying to get pregnant again and I am concerned since I've had no period. |

I went to get my Implanon out last week. Its in too deep & they could not get out!! No seems to be able to get it out, have rang that many places & all i get is "sorry we dont do that procedure here!!" So after nearly a week of phone calls , i have been put on a "waiting list" to get an "appointment" to get the damn thing out of my arm!!
Not a "HAPPY CAMPER" |

Hello
I'm not sure if you have solved your problem/question yet but I thought I would reply because I had my implanon out 2 days ago and my last period (I have two in a row with the implant in) ended exactly one week before the removal and, like you, I have started bleeding pretty much straight away. Sorry if this is too much info but the bleeding is quite heavily, in the same way as I would if this was a real period.
Have you worked out why periods can return this quickly? I was expecting a much longer wait having read some people's experiences on this forum. Are you any clearer on the issue of pregnancy?? I am trying for a second baby too.
I hope this finds you both well and a lot less in the dark than me!
Thanks, Rachael |

Hmmmm i can't believe someone has asked that question.
I had the implanon removed on the 24th of January this year because i had the same problem with weight gain.
Well it is now the 26th of feb and i am waiting for a period, we had sex the night before it was removed! I will keep you posted. But i am worried because the last time i had the implanon removed, i didn't get a period and fell pregnant within the same month of it being removed and i always get my period on the 24th and this has not changed since i was a child. |

Hi All,
I've been reading your posts with interest, even though I am starting to get a little nervous about the removal now!
I found this message board a couple of weeks ago and was glad I did! I now realise how many side effects I've been having since getting my second Implanon on 19/06/2008.
First one was inserted 07/07/2005. All was fine, no side effects to be noted. For both 1st and 2nd Implanon I've been getting my period every 6 weeks and has been a little bit longer than pre Implanon and really light. This bit I am happy with!
The bits I'm not happy with since getting the 2nd Implanon.... The hair loss is b.a.d. I feel like I'm going bald, and I've always had thick hair before this. The other problem is the moodiness, crankiness and emotions. My boyfriend is so good (and he knows when to run and hide!). The mood swings aren't as bad as in other posts here, but they are horrible. I get into really weird moods where I get down and annoyed at everything, I don't know, I can't really describe it. But I feel like I'm always annoyed and cranky about nothing, the little things escalate to massive issues.
Also since first getting the implant back in 2005 I have gained 11kgs which is very hard to shift.
I've got an appointment tomorrow with the Gynie... I need this thing out of my arm! I'm planning on going natural after this, I'm over all the hormones and rubbish I've been putting in my body. So, now I'm a little worried about post-removal side effects..... Please let my body go back to normal!
I know Implanon's not the worst decision I've ever made (as a contraceptive device it works great) but the side effects are so not worth it. |

Hi Tam, in reply to your message. The reason you may feel like you are pregnant is because Implanon produces hormones which make your body think it is pregnant. I have had similar problems to you. The problem with it is, because it produces these hormones artificially, your pituitary gland doesn't have to make the hormones for your body. Once you have Implanon taken out, sometimes the pituitary gland doesn't go back to it's normal function (a year and a half later I am still not 'normal'). My doctor said perhaps I should go on the pill for a month to try and start it up again but I am really against putting these artificial hormones in my body now I have experienced the negative effects they can have. I started taking a Pituitary supplement a couple weeks ago and have to say its made a big difference to the side effects I was getting.
It is very stressful not knowing what is happening with your normal cycle and I wish you all the best. You are not alone with feeling this way |
