Hi,
I am 17 and suffer pretty much what your've been through. Used about every face cleanser, scrub whatever and just didnt seem to work. I went on the pill one called Nordette28 which is a low dosage, and was on it for a period of three months this pill is not recommended for ance control, I went on it for my periods as I severely suffer from heavy periods a super size tampon would last up to 30mins to an hour the pill helped that BUT my skin broke out! I had blind pimples every where which were also painfull so I then decided to go off that pill. I am now on the Juliet pill I have only just started but I hope it works!. I was recommended to go on the same pill as you are on but the Pharmacist said it was the same but Juliet turns out to be cheaper

I am on a skin contraceptive pill called Juliet ED- It does work, since I was 14 I started to suffer from pimples, now if I'm lucky I may get the odd one.
But go to your doctor and see what he recommends.

i once used to have perfect skin but as soon as i turned 16 it went really pimply and has been going down hill from then for the last three years. whilst i have tried tablets for my skin as well as creams i found that they were usually too harsh and burned my skin, causing redness and scarring. my t-zone is rather oily and my problem area. i wouldn't recommend using clearisil as it dries out your natural ph skin level that is designed to fight against bacteria. i find that my skin becomes agitated by stress, maybe your enviroment is effecting your skin. whilst herbs and natural ingredients are more reccommendable, i still would advise going to a beautician to get a skin diagonsis, their products may be expensive but they usually work, ask for some samples first to test run them. Diet is also important, even if it is a hormonal problem, you are what you eat. drinking lots of water, vitamin c intake and staying away from sugar and fatty foods will improve your overall health and will not only give you more energy but also make you feel better emotionally and mentally. i think it is important to not let acne rule your life, whilst it doesn't do much for the self esteem, you can beat it through other ways of seeing just how beautiful you are. excercise is also a big helper, even just a 20 min walk will make you sweat out impurities and your pours will shrink, plus it will make you want to drink water and you'll feel energised and motivated after. don't agaitate your skin by cleansing it too much because you take away the natural oils by doing this, be gentle cleanse lightly and use an oil free moisturiser, no harsh srubs and ease up on the masks. as for makeup, go easy on it, i know its hard because all you want to do is hide behind it on a bad day, but stuff everyone else, this is you and if they are going to judge you by your skin then they arn't worth your time. be light with your foundation, use it only on the bad spots, not all over. translucent powderis great.

I have had the same problem. Stay awake from chemical facial products, they worsten the problem. You need to get some organic products, MiEssence is great, and they contain therapeutic grade essential oils which are very healing. The other product that I get is call Young Living Essentail Oils, they are more expensive but great too. Look them up on the net. YOu also need to do a Liver cleanse. A great one is from the natural health food shop and it involves a 15 day program, includeing liver, stomach, bowel and intestine. It requires that yo go vegan for 15 days. You need to change to organic food. This sounds extreme, but your body is full of contaminates such as chemical residue that cannot escape. It has worked for me. I have found the pill worstens my acne, so my husband and I use a female diaphram which is easy to use. Hope this helps.

I went to the doctor a few years ago seeking treatment for acne and they prescribed "Diane 31" a hormone treatment designed for such conditions. It is a contraceptive also (added because it can cause birth defects). You need to take it for a few months before it totally works, but the long term effects are excellent.

P.S

I'm mainly unsure of my options at this point. I was asked if I wanted a higher dose with the greater risk of side effects, and did choose to go down that path.

I'm concerned about what I can ask for upon my next visit. I assume I can choose to go for a lower dose of what I'm already taking. I'm convinced this will still produce undesirable results, even if to a much lesser degree.

What I'm hoping for is something that might serve to help both problems, I've heard of Diane-35, with contains different ingredients (apparently works against the male hormones, lessening their effects?).

I hope this is the way to go, it sounds far more positive than simply being prescribing a lower dose form of what i'm already taking.

Contraceptive pill - Acne Reply to this message
Hi,

Im 20 and have suffered from acne since I can remember. Within the last year the condition has improved to a reasonable degree. I suffer from break outs occasionaly and use products containing beta hydroxy acids to help reduce the severity (this tends to dry out my skin and becomes unsuitable at times).

I've recently sought out the contraceptive pill, for the purpose of contraception and have been prescribed Levlen ED. When seeing the doctor my skin was in a dry spell and very clear, I failed to mention that I suffer from acne during the consultation.

Since using Levlen ED for the past 5 days ( 5 days of the actual hormone pills, not the placebos.) I have broken out with very deep, inflamed pustular pimples that are extremely painful and far more severe than I have ever experienced. In the past I have always had a few minor pimples, nothing like what i'm experiencing right now.

I'm hoping that someone who reads this may have experienced this before and can shed some light on the situation, understandly everyone reacts different and what advice is given from someone elses situation may not directly relate to my own.

But I would like to be a little more informed in regards to the experiences of others before I schedual another doctors appoinment to try another type. Researching online has so far only led to more confusion and frustration.

Much thanks to anyone to takes the time to read this.
