Depo builds up in the system. So I dont think 2 weeks will matter. I was on it for 2yrs (1st time). It took me 21 months to fall pregnant with 2nd child.

What you will find is that the longer you are on it, your ovaries thicken and can cause sterility and you will, in time, start experiencing all the symptoms you are reading on this thread. Mood swings, low libido etc. It is not a good drug to be on. I also have had abnormal cervical cells 1st at age 25 and now have a recurrence at age 51. I am wondering if Depo had anything to do with it. Be very careful

Female hormonal problems are extremely complex. What suits one may not suit a thousand others. Go to Metabolic Subtyping via http://health care under contents for the big picture, which will allow you to make an informed decision

Depo works fine for me I've had no real side affects.
What I want to ask if anyone knows......
I am going away mid feb and my depo is due end of Feb. Can I get it earlier? Or wll it make a difference if if I take it 2 weeks later?
Hope someone can help.

You have no idea what a relief i feel reading what you all have to say. I had been on Depo for 4 years and decided to come off for a break. No side effects, everything was great (slight hair loss but not much to worry about) i went back on it after a year and it was like the 'real' me was sucked out of myself. Mood swings that i couldn't begin to describe, weight gain, emotionally i was a wreck. It ended up being the ruining of my relationship as i just didn't have this kind of info and i felt like it was just me going mad. If i had only know. I advise against, just incase.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
I feel for all you women. I was on the Depo for three years. I went on it right after I had my little girl. But 1 year after I had her I got diagnosed with adnormal cells on my cervix called dysplasia.I was only 19 years old. The doctor never seen anything like it because I had all three mild, moderate, and severe. They went in and froze it and it still has not came back in two years so I'm lucky. But when I got put on the depo my mother asked them over and over if it could hurt me and they said no.All women are meant to have a period to flush out all the bad things. I kept having headaches and me and my husband wanted to try for another baby last year. So I came off in May last year. Only to find out I couldn't concieve for 12-18 months or longer and my breasts hurt so bad I couldn't sleep at night and I had sharp chest pain.I bled all the time and it was all uncomfortable. Now I have been off for 8 months and my bleeding I don't have but once a month but heavy. I have no chest pain anymore but I still can't get pregnant. They told me if I got pregnant that my womb would be considered not a clean womb so I should take the pills and let my body get back to normaland clean it self out. Whats normal anymore? I got put on the pills thinking it would help clean and regulate my period but when I take the pill it causes me to have pain in my abdomen, I vomit and have diahrea all day.So I have been pill and shot free and now my body is doing fine and I feel a lot better. Although I still can't get pregnant. I just wanted to tell all you women that it does get better but quit putting all that poison in your bodies. The shot they give to women in country's they don't want to multiply and they give it child molesters. So what does that tell you. Doctors here don't want you to know all that. We were meant to bear children and god made us that way. But we now took advantage of that because doctors had something to make it go away. Now we are dealing with all the hurting and pain.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
DEPO WAS OFFERED TO ME AS "THE BEST CHOICE" OF CONTRACEPTIVE WHEN I HAD AN ABORTION IN 2000 THEY OFFERED TO ADMINISTER IT BEFORE WAKING UP FROM THE PROCEDURE. I NEVER TOOK IT AGAIN AS I BLEED FOR 3 MONTHS STRAIGHT, IT WAS A LIGHT/NORMAL FLOW INBETWEEN CYCLES THEN REALLY HEAVY DURING THE TIME I WAS SUPPOSSE TO HAVE A NORMAL FLOW. THE PILL ALSO DID THIS TO ME THE YEAR BEFORE, I WAS BLEEDING SO HEAVY I HAD TO CHANGE A THICK PAD EVERY 5 MINS AND WAS PASSING HUGE BLOOD CLOTS, I HAD TO TAKE MEDICATION TO STOP THE BLEEDING AND CHANGE PILLS.

I have been on depo for 2 yrs now and in the last 6 months i have had mood swings weight gain (not much) but enough to get me angry, leg cramps and since last week i had experenced hot flushes. his is the first time i have had them and they are a real pain as i wake up hot and cant cool down. I am thinking its better if i go back on he pill or the implant, but now i have to wait till three months are up to do that. So til then i am stuck with these hot flushes and other things.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
i am not belittling your symptoms, but I would like to post this for the benefit of anyone reading these and fearing what may happen.
I have been on the Depo for the past 6 years, I came off it 2 years ago then went back on cos I was getting the mastalgia back-which I got terribly b4 having the depo and couldn't cope, so i stayed on for another 18 months and decided to have a break. I had a bone scan a couple of years ago through a research project and that was completely normal, and i don't eat calcium rich dairy products either! so don't take that scare to heart too much.

I have now been off it since April gone and have gone back to completely normal periods within 4 months, no side effects either on it or off, no weight gain, no headaches etc. and the mastalgia hasn't come back either, thank god!

All I can say is that everybody is different, but it also means that your chemical make-up is different and therefore the way you react is different to everyone else.

I did have one scare a year into having them, I was spotting after sex etc. the docs blamed it on the Depo-it wasn't, I pushed and pushed for another smear (they didn't want to give me an extra one cos it'd only been a year since my last) but the did, and I had abnormal cells on my cervix and had to have colposcopy treatment, so if i'd listened to my doc i might not be here today, as it wasn't the depo causing it at all.
Please don't just take your symptoms as depo-causing, it may just be something more sinister

J x

Hi I only had the shot omce and i have had all the side effects too.Depression and anger are the ones I fear the most.I just would like someone who understands what i am going through to just listen to me,cuz where im from no one is listening.Everyone seems to think im lieing or something ,i feel like im in a bad horror film.I feel like someone else and i dont like my friend right now.Shes been on the depo for 1 year and has had a fractured rib and while she wont admit to it she has been real hostile. She makes rude comments to me about the shot -not everything being the shots fault.Well if shes smart she will eventually figure it out.It took me less then a month to figure it out.DEPO-REAL PAIN AND SUFFERING-DONT TAKE IT!

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
From 1997 to 2000 I was on Depo with no side affects. I waited a year for it to come out of my system and then fell pregnant. I then had the implant from 2001 to 2004 I had another child and have just recently had the Depo agian, believing that again I would have no side affects. I am currently lossing my hair, have mood swings and am suffering severe depression something I had just got over(Postnal depression form 1996 to 2000) My best friend went on the depo when I first went on it in 1997. She had an ongoing Period for 7mths just off one neddle.

I have been on depo for 7 months - and thanks to these messages boards i AM NOT going back on it - I have had pain, hairloss, unexplained dizziness (can't even bend over the sink), 15 lbs weight gain, have had breakthru bleeding more weeks than I haven't (which was the exact opposite of why i went on the darn thing in the first place), painful cramps for no reason at all different times, etc. I thought it was just me - but low and behold all of you are experiencing so many of the same symptons! Thank you so much and I really wish my doc would have said something!!!!

i am FREAKING out. i recieved my first depo shot 10 days ago. my dr. had me wait until the day i got my period to get the shot, and i have had my period since! it's not heavy, but it's there! i thought it was gone for a day, but it came back. my period usually only lasts 4-5 days MAX, but here i am on day 10. i really really really hope it goes away soon, i can't deal with this. i've also had headaches nearly everyday since getting the shot... i hope all of this goes away.

My name is Niesha and i recently stopped taking depo myself.. i am going through hell i shouldve had my depo last month, but due to insurance probs i wasnt able to get it.. therefore i thought i was prego.. I did have my period 9-11-05 so when i seen i was late i was a little happy.. mainly bcus i just got married 5 mths ago and didnt mind given it a go around for the 3rd time.. when i seen that i was late and breast were VERY sore, nausea vomitting etc the whole prego thing hubby and i were happier than 2 peas in a pod.. it wasnt until this past tuesday i went on a search about late period while on depo google search and to my amazement seen that it was a possibility that what i was going through wasnt prego related but maybe depo.. all my hpt (prego test) were neg, but so were the ones with my 2 boys.. so i went and had a blood 1 done on tuesday.. then started light spotting yesterday..well needless to say i cried a pool of tears this morning when dr's office said i wasnt prego.. i have read all these horror stories about depo and im hoping we (all depo women) havent screwed our bodies up for a bit while trying to protect and use bc.. I just wanted to say good luck to you guys.. it would feel good to have someone to talk to who is a little bit like me
Until then take care!
Niesha

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
Contraceptives pills are chemical hormones, the body is taking in toxins. I was having problem like that when I am on contraceptives, once I was off contraceptives, those health problems was gone in a year.

Need to discuss with your doctor about your symptoms and evaluate if it was a diet problem as well.. if you don't eat well and drink plenty of water, your body just cannot get rid of any toxicity caused by drugs, pollution and food substances.

Dear writer -

PLEASE get off this drug ASAP!! I was on it and am just here trying to investigate a little. I was on Depo for 7 years and was told nothing would happen...no side effects, etc. Now, I have been off of it for 11 months and have had a 3 month period, severe cramps, depression/crabiness, and am not sure if I will ever be regular and normal again so that I can have children. I have also read this drug causes osteoporosis and severe bone problems. This is a horrible drug, that they are not admitting has so many or so severe side effects.

my mum was on it for 8 years earlier this year she went and had it and nearly died she had an allegic reaction. Her liver and kidneys shut down and they had to give her adreniline to bring her back. if she didn't have to wait for me they said she would have died. She was in hospital for 3 days and then come home with severe headaches and cramps. The doctor said this is the frist time he had ever seen it happen. please be careful if you do get it make sure you stay there for 10 minutes afterwards

I am 32 years old and have been on the Dep shot for three years...I thought everything was fine until this last injection. I have been spotting, mostly bleeding for 11 weeks. I started looking on line for possible reasons why? Before this I had zero bleeding. I can not beleive what I have come across...
The hair loss...I have had hair loss since I started this shot, now it is very bad, I have a huge hair ball every time I take a shower. And I shed worse than a dog, there is hair everywhere. I thought this was just a natural thing. My knees hurt, my bones crack!! I was diagnosed with depression about a year ago and I am taking Lexapro for the depression. I almost feel the depression may be linked to this shot. I am very worried about what I have done to my body. My next shot is scheduled for October but I will not be going to the doctor for the shot. I am going to start a detox program...hopefully I will be able to get this drug out of my system.

i have had hair loss, a 2 month long period, that i still am having, terrible headaches that start in my neck and painful wrist and knee pains. My daughter has just stopped having the injection, she had severe stomache pains, constant infections a 2 day stay in hospital with gallbladder problems, that after a scan was found to be yet another infection, she has had an eye infection for the last 3 weeks and when her doctor was asked if it was the depo that had done it his answer was "probably"

Saw your post and thought I'd respond. I was on Depo since June 1999, just got off it in May beacause I was tired of my hair falling out every time I ran my fingers through it!!! It is still falling out now as much as it was before. Luckily I have very thick hair so it's not like it obvious. I'm hoping that when the shot is completely out of my system it will stop!
