I had the Marina fitted in Nov 2000 after I had my first girl.It was perfect until Nov/Dec 2002 my periods stopped completely and I started gaining weight. The weight I gained felt really unnatural, I went from a Uk size 10 to a size 14.After many chats with my husband we decided to have another child so I had it removed in Apr 2004. I instantly shedded the weight and went down to a size 12.
I got pregnant within 6 mths. We now have a beautiful baby girl.
After numerous consultations about what contraception to use all the signs pointed back to the Marina.
I just had it fitted, besides from a light spotting everything seems fine. Fingers crossed it will settle well and there will be no weight gain this time round. |

| Hi there, I am also considering Mirena. I have had extremely heavy and long periods since having my last child (4 years ago). It seems the pill makes this worse as does Implanon and depo... Have had Hysteroscopy, cystoscopy and countless other things and am now scared to use anything barr condoms but even they aren't reliable. I really want to get this mirena implant but am too scared to do so as every other contraceptive device/treatment gives me side affects. Can someone who has one please reply.. |

Hi there...
I had Marina inserted about a year ago. It was very very painful. My bleeding reduced by 50% after my 1st period, and then 90% to spotting, and the nothing... but, I still get pain almost every month. It's not period pain. It's a numbness down into my one thigh. No tummy cramps. I've noticed acne after about 6months. Now, after a year, I have no bleeding ( which is wonderful).... but I've noticed that the acne increased and PMS, with mood swings! It's sooooo horrible. I'm thinking of having it removed. |

Hi there. I have the Marina inserted about a year ago... I have a 5yr old and had a very heavy flow on the Copper IUD. The bleeding was gone after Marina,... but I'm getting the side effects after 10months. ACNE...! Lately, it's acne and PMS... I'm soooooo horrible to my hubby. I'm thinking of having it removed now. It's wonderful though, because I vary from no bleeding to spotting... What a pitty. I dont want any more kids though... The Pill is worse. I get migranes, acne and PMS with mood swings... on the Pill.
Regards,
Alison |

| I got the IUD in January of 2005 and it has been pretty good overall. I had about two normal periods and then they stopped all together wich is one less thing that i have to worry about. I spot every once in a while and have cramps. I've also noticed that I sweat alot more even with deoderant on i get sweaty but I don,t know if this is a side effect from the IUD. other than that I think its great because you never have to think about it. |

Hi Every1, im 20 yrs old no kids as yet :0) oneday though , but i have suffered with heavy periods and endometriosis since i was 13 & i had my first laparoscapy and i had the marina coil fitted at same time on the 4th of July 05. From day one i knew i had to let it settle in but the abdominal pains i was getting were on the left hand side and each time i got it, i felt as thought i was going to pass out, and my temperature shot through the roof.
So I went to see my doctor and she had a look and said i might have an infection and then sent me away with some antibiotics on friday just gone, but on the sunday it got worse at 11pm i i passed out and had to be rushed to hospital and they gave me some morphine, as the pain i was having was so horrific, and they said they thought i had T.S.S ( Toxic Shock Syndrome), and they took it out there and then.
I feal great now ive had no pain but i do wish it wud have been the right method for me as the pill ive tryed so many and each didnt help i just blead more heavily, so it works for some women just not for me, i guess ive gotta go back to the old method xx Alison xx |

| Hi I am 26 and have just had the marina inserted through a general. I have had excessive abnormal uterine bleeding for 10 weeks and had a dilation, curettage and the IUD (marina) inserted. It has been 7 days since I had the surgery and my bleeding has stopped - in fact I am not even spotting. I am feeling a little blue and am wondering if this could be hormonal. The cramping I have with it though is really bad and I have been told by my gynie that this is normal for 3 months. Does anyone have any suggestions on things to do for the cramping? |

| If you really don't want to have any more children, consider having your tubes clamped. Beats pumping chemicals into your system, especially with something that has'nt been under the scrutiny of researchers and testing for a long period of time. |

I'm super biased, my body hates all chemicals - pills, implanon, strong pain killers etc.
I think the world we live in is so toxic already with pestisides and irradiated foods and addidtives, why deliberately take in more chemicals? Every drug has side effects - Hormone drugs just so many more!
The rates of infertility in the western (toxic) world are skyrocketting, and you only get one body. I know condoms really suck - but they are a relatively natural option. |

| My Doctor would like me to try it as she doesn't want me to take the 'pill' due to other issues. I also have heavy, painful periods. I have looked at the manufacturers website.... it has a great speel, and testimonies, but then it is designed as a sales device.... when I have done a bit more research I will try to remember to post another reply. |
