Re:Drink spiking Reply to this message
Some people get rail roaded into going into these bars against their better judgement and like me have no other way to get home (or so I thought). Later though somebody mentioned to me that I could have used my credit card or debit card in a taxi which I hadn't realised (having never used a Taxi for years) so that's something that could help.

Hello, I know your letter is fairly old but my experience is much older, and similar in the fact that I behaved totally out of character, and on looking back I realised something had happened.

My out of character behaviour included (apparently) getting completely sloshed after only 2 glasses of wine (unbelievable), falling down unconscious almost immediately (never happened in my life before), waking up the next morning on the floor of a friend(?)s place (completely out of character). I drove myself to Hospital with black eyes and bruising in the shape of finger marks all up and down my upper arms from being dragged into her house. How did I get those marks because everyone around me swore they were innocent. I was concussed for days and very emotional so didn't go to the police until a friend suggested I might have had my drink spiked. Of course I wasn't tested for drugs as I didn't think of it and neither did the Hospital and it was too late. Also, the police asked the people I was with if they had anything to do with it and they just said "No." and that was that - I just got dismissed. My advice? You're on your own in this world so look after yourself. Don't go out with people you don't know well. Don't trust anyone. Never leave your drink unattended and buy your own drinks. If it still happens in spite of these precautions, go to the Hospital, call the Police and get a blood test post haste. I didn't realise till much later but I am positive the work mate I was with wanted me out of the way because she met a bloke she wanted to take home, so they thought it would be funny to spike my drink. My arm has a permanent torn rotator cuff injury because he dragged me into the house. Cheers Staleywise

Re:Drink spiking Reply to this message
I have been unlucky enough to have had my drink spiked on a couple of occations. These were the worst experiances of my life..Unfortunatly when we have had a couple of drinks you let your guard down, thats what these guys are waiting for! I now have a phobia bout my drink being spiked and think it will be with me for the rest of my life! The symptoms are so bad that you feel like your going to die, sickness, tummy cramps, shaking, anxiousnes ,to name but a few!Al you can do is make sure to never ever let your drink out of your sight, dont even trust a friend as you just dont know who you can trust!!The good news is, the after effects do go after a few days, but not a nice experiance at all!!

Re:Drink spiking Reply to this message
Hi please do not think i am being rude to you at all, but i was on anti-depressents and was told by my doctor never to drink while on them as they would have adverse effect.

Anyways several months ago before xmas i was drinking coke (on the anti-depressents) and i became irrational, argumentive to a friend of mine whom had drunk a beer and started kissing two guys at once, which was out of the ordinary for her. Anyway she was also argumentive and didn't want to hear me tell her we should leave so i walked out of the pub and started to walk home. My friend rang my old mobile which is now my dad's phone and he managed to call me to get me back to the pub to rejoin my group of 'friends' anyway i walked back and managed to talk her into coming home with me not sure how but we caught a cab home
(she lives houses up from me) i was still yelling abuse at my mum, brother and future sister in law about what happened at the pub they all thought i was drunk except mum who knows i don't drink, she got me a hot drink and i passed out on her bed.

Mum took me to the doctors whom confirmed i was drugged but had the adverse effect of being fr!dg!ed and stubborn not placid and willing. He also said never to give hot drinks to anyone as that can cause them to pass out, become even more drugged or in worse case coma though its only happened in extreme cercumstances.

Hope this helps anyone else who has ever had thier drink spiked or thinks they know of anyone who has been... remember not all abusive people are drunk they could be drugged/spiked. NEVER leave them alone

Re:Drink spiking Reply to this message
I went out in Melbourne 3 nights ago. I am on antidepressents and bloodpressure tablets. I drank consistantly throughout the afternoon and early into the night..only beer. I did have two shots of tequilla later on. That sounds like alot, and it is, but I was a frequent drinker and had drank in the safety of my home like that before.
At worst, I would fall asleep..my husband had left me recently so that is why I was behaving like this.
Anyway I was happy and had found new love.
During the night (according to phone records 10.30pm) things went pear shaped.
I have never ever been violent, never had a fight in my entire 35 yrs.
Apparently I hit a total stranger who was male and continued to abuse my boyfriend and generally turned into a terrible person
Hence I ended up in the back of a police car (which has never happened before) and in a hospital continuing with terrible behaviour. I have since been prescribed medication to sedate me and have lost my boyfriend and my dignity.
I wonder if my drink was spiked only due to the fact that I am not violent, have been brought up correctly with a loving family. I hate violence
I have been raped and hit before and that was 10 years ago
Am I just a silly girl who has to face up to being foolish? Or was my drinks spiked. I do not remember the night..this is what has been told to me. And have been incrediable emotional since.

Re:Drink spiking Reply to this message
hi all, about 12 days ago i got extremely ill after a night out however drank far less than my usual limit. that day i was vomiting and thought it was just from hangover but for the next 10 days i had severe nausea, shivering, hot and cold sweats and flushes, sweaty hands, a pulse inside my ears, drowsiness and excessive amounts of saliva continually filling up my mouth. i am only just beginning to feel better now, 12 days later. can anyone tell me does this sound like my dirnk had been spiked or was it just a bug that was triggered with the intake of alcohol? i hav never felt so sick in my life

Re:Drink spiking Reply to this message
Having worked in a bar before, I was very wary of drink spiking. In my opinion, it's the lowest act of cowardice that a human being can do to another.

Best to stick to a safe group of good friends. Keep your eye on your drink. If you go for a dance with friends, have a designated drink watcher, which is kind of like a designated driver.

If you are at all unsure about your drink, ask bar staff to take it away and tip it out. If you are at all suspicious of an individual's behaviour, report it to bar staff, security and staff and police.

Please ensure that you look after all your friends too.

Good luck in the future

I don't know for the life of me why young people must seek a social life in bars and pubs, not to mention allowing strange men to buy you drinks in the first place.

If you insist on trolling these rash*t places, go with a group and stay as a group until every last one of you arrive home safely.

This makes me just so angry....HOW DARE ANYONE DO THAT!!...please remember, never allow anyone to buy you drinks. This may sound silly, but i always place my hand over the mouth of the glass when im not drinking from it. Rest and water, as water flushes out many toxins...

I think you have answered your own question. You might want to pay your doctor a visit and have a pregnancy test, and maybe tests for std's, particulary AIDS. Good luck!

Re:Drink spiking Reply to this message
Ive had my drink spiked about 3 years ago, symptons the day after included vomitting, cramps in my whole body, vision impairment and body sweats. These went on for 3-4 days. Friends who took me home after i passed out in the bar reported that I was agro and slurring and was unable to stand at all. If you do seriously think your drink has been spiked, dont give your drink to others to "taste", take it straight to the bar and alert bar staff. Most pubs and clubs have set standards that they are required to follow if this happens. Please remember that suspecting that your drink has been spiked is not silly or stupid. If you just buy another drink and dont say anything, another woman is probably getting her drink spiked too. Watch out for yourself, your friends and if you see a women that seems to be leglessly drunk being carried out by a man, stop her and ask her if she knows the man. You just might be saving her life!

hi elise,i feel so sorry that this is happening these days, the only answer to your problem, is not to put your self in a situation that it can happen, and always expect it to happen and be wereay of it cos it only takes a second and you are the one that suffers,if unsure done,t drink the drink and buy anew one, bye

Drink spiking Reply to this message
I went out to a local race day a few days ago, and was careful about the amount i was drinking as i had to drive a fair distance the next day, but i have no memory of the night past my second drink. I woke to find my wallet was missing and was very unwell.I have been sick ever since. I believe my drink had been spiked.
