Re:side effects while having implanon i ... Reply to this message
I have had my Implanon for a little less than two years (since Feb 2008). I was 60kg when I got it & currently weigh 75kg. I can't blame this weight gain entirely on Implanon, I have been overindulgent in my recent travels but the rate at which I put on the weight and my difficulty in losing weight is a concern. I have been following a quite strict but sensible diet combined with a variety of cardio, strength & weight training on a daily basis for several months now to no avail. I have had great success in the past with weight loss. It is very disheartening.

I also experience quite severe bouts of depression and mood swings. I am not much fun to be around lately and I'm driving myself and my family nuts. I also recently went to get an ultrasound of my breasts because they have been quite dense and lumpy and I am experiencing pain to the point where I can no longer sleep on my stomach. The ultrasound technician said there were hormone deposits and suggested they were caused by the Implanon.

I think that there is no doubt the Implanon is great for some people and I love that I don't have to think about taking a pill everyday. I have been very fortunate with very little bleeding though it does get a bit annoying that you don't know when to expect it. I lost hair on the pill whereas I don't on the Implanon. At this stage though the cons are far outweighing the cons as I am miserable and overweight. I have made an appointment to have it removed in two weeks though it is not soon enough! I can't wait to get it out and start losing weight! I hope I can start to recognise myself again mood and body wise.

Has anyone had any experience with losing weight after the removal of Implanon and how long does it take before your body starts acting normally again do you think?

I have had implanon for well lets see 6 months, the first 5 were hell, bleeding all the time, my 3 days periods turned into 30. But recently, I have started pains and sickness everywhere. It's like I have every symptom of being pregnate, without the pregnate part. Boobs killing me, Im hormonal like Ive never been. I started turning into this jealous beast of a wife, and let me tell you my husband is hating it. I want it out but cant find anything that works as good as it(the not getting prego part). Help.

I have had the Implanon in for about a year. It seemed great at first, normal periods, no chance of getting pregnant. After the first few months I started getting extra long periods, the longest to date lasted about 2 months, and the longest I've been off my period is about 2 weeks. I feel very depressed all the time, and my hair did start falling out shortly after I had this thing put in. I thought that was because I started dying my hair, but after reading all these postings I'm not so sure. The periods are the worst though. I hate this thing and am getting it out of my arm as soon as I can!

I'm pretty sure that people who are satisfied with it don't go out and post about it... but those who are having troubles with it need to go out and warn others. I think these posts are skewed.

I've had mine for about five months and it is fantastic. I'm not off the hook scotch-free; there are a couple of side effects that I have gotten. I used to be in complete control of my emotions, more so than the average woman, I'd say. But now I might have a bad day here or there and just cry for no reason or a stupid reason. Odd, that's never happened before.

The bleeding for me is completely random, I guess. Although it will be different for everyone. I'll go for several days at a time and stop for several days at a time. To me though, it's worth it. I put something in my arm... I forget about it for 3 years. No pill to remember to take everyday. No shot every few months.

As far as weight gain goes... coincidentally, I changed my lifestyle right around the time I got Implanon, so I've actually lost like 10 pounds in a very short period of time. It's just simple math that I don't even think Implanon can change: eating less calories than you burn = weight loss; eating excessive calories that aren't burned off and just stored = weight gain.

Overall, my experience with Implanon has been fantastic. Based my experience, I would recommend it to all of my friends (and I do!) Insertion was really no big deal. Your arm is numbed, so it isn't that bad.

If you're thinking about getting Implanon, don't let what most people on here say about it scare you away. Like I said, I think just the people with bad experiences post about it. Hopefully you're as lucky as I am!

i have have had the implanon in for about 1 year and 6 mnths and within that time i have not been myself and lash over the most silly things. i stress out over so much and everything seems to annoy me. there has been many times where i felt depressed when my life has been fine. at first i thought it was anxiety but it must be the implanon because i was a perfectly happy person before i had it. tiredness is also another thing i constantly have no energy and always feel lathargic. i cant wait to get rid of it and see if it turns me back to the happy person i was!!

I have been using implanon for about a year. at first i thought it was so awsome because of the great benefits it provided. Later on at about three months i noticed that my moods were very bad, i was getting panicked all the time, i would constantly pick fights with my boyfriend and tell him that he was always wrong. my periods would never end.I even got a Major Depressive order and tried killing myself with pills due to the thought that my life was worthless. For this to happen something has to be done. iam deciding to take this thing off asap.

I am 21 years old,my eldest daughter is almost 2. I got pregnant with my 2nd daughter when she was nine mths old, now she is 5mths. I was careless with the pill and had major side effects, i felt I was going crazy. 2mths after my 2nd daughter's birth I decided to consider a more reliable contraception so I opted for the mirena coil. Unfortunately because I had 2 c-sections the coil would not fit in my cervix so I had no choice but ti have the implanon fitted, I couldn't get pregnant again, for a few yrs anyway. Ive had it in since jul 09, constant bleeding, weight gain, headache, very moody, loss of sex drive, depression, slight hair loss. I am worried now as I fear if i get the implanon removed my partner has threatened to get a vascetomy. I want another child in the future, does it get any easier on the implanon?

I am so pleased to be reading this forum. I've been on the implamon for about a year and have been having irregular periods, some really heavy ones, sometimes just spotting, some last for ages. This current one is now on day 14. I have also gone off sex. I have also started feeling out of control and panicky, and thinking about illness and death etc, especially the day after a few drinks and i thought it was just me getting older, even though nothing else had changed in my life apart from having the implamon. I am having it taken out next week and using condoms again! Thanks for sharing guys, it really has taken a weight off my shoulders. Hope it works out for everyone :o)

Re:side effects while having implanon i ... Reply to this message
I have had Implanon since March '09 and this thing seems like on of the biggest mistakes i've made in a while! I got the implanon about 2 months after I had my son, and wanted it because i didn't want to get pregnant again for a while. I think that the ONE good thing about it is I have not had a period since it was put in. The bad side effects I have experienced are headaches; i get them 24/7, sometimes really bad ones, and some that aren't so bad but last for days at a time. I get nauseated a lot, and don't know why. I feel like the WORST thing about it is the weight gain. I am in the military, and I work out EVERYDAY, I eat right, and NOTHING seems to work for me to lose weight. I have not lost even 1 pound since I got the implanon, and it is very depressing. I have tried everything to lose the weight i gained while pregnant, and I just can't seem to do it. I want sooooo badly to get this thing removed, but am scared to get pregnant again. I have tried other BC methods that just aren't for me (pills, fattening depo, ect.) I am so confused about what to do, but I know that if i don't get it removed, I will continue to struggle with the weight and I can't afford to fail a physical fitness test. I HATE this, and I wish I would have thought about it more before i got it

Hi there,
I have implanon, and it is for contraception. Please don't think it will stop your periods. My doctor warned me that when I got it there was a chance that I would have non stop periods for 3 months, or no periods for 3 months or no change. I used to have an very predictable cycle, four days exactly every 4 weeks. I was pretty lucky and got no periods for 3 months, now I get a period every 6-8 weeks which lasts about a week. It doesn't stop you from getting your period, but it definitely stops you from getting pregnent.
Hope you have a good trip :)

i had mine for 2 months. it was a nightmare. i had it put in mid december 2008. i had spotting throughout and a terrible weight gain. it was terrible having to have panty liners all the time. i had a rapid weight gain which persisted even after the removal in Feb this year, gained 15kg in all. before i had it i had never had problems with my weight, petite at 45kg but now i hit the scale at a whooping 60kg! I am also a uni student, my advice to you is get it out as soon as u can. You dont wanna regret later. Good luck

When i First got the implanon, i didnt have a period for 5 months, but then BAM, it came, and it was THE worst period i have ever had, and then from then on, its been very unregular, one day on, one day off, then back on. And the headaches, they come and go, sometimes unbarrable. Sometimes girls start to get hair loss, and some dont, i dont know why this happens, as i am losing hair myself! LOL! anywho, hope this helps!

Re:side effects while having implanon i ... Reply to this message
I have a question, i have had the Implanon, it will be a year in Oct. 2009. I have been experiencing weird off schedule periods that are heavy and sometimes light. sometimes ill have a period for a week, be off for a day, and then it comes back even heavier. I have also been experiencing major head aches that lasts for days at a time, and just recently, my hair has been falling out IN CHUNKS. Im not stressed, i dont like having sex anymore, and i have developed acne on my face, and ive never had acne before. are all these just phases of the Implanon? or do i need to get it removed? I had a girl tell me that she was almost completely bald because of this., and she was in fact almost bald. LOL. not funny i know. but any info would help A LOT, seeing how the people who put this in me did not tell me i would be losing hair, or major headaches. Is there more to come?

Re:side effects while having implanon i ... Reply to this message
I had the implanon put in oct 9th 2008 at first i was doing good with it until February. my first side affect i had was hair lost, i told my doctor about it and he said my hair didn't fall out because of the implanon he said stress caused my hair to fall out so i didn't think nothing else about it, but my hair ended up growing back anyway. but after that i really didn't have anymore problems but on july 30th 2009 i had to go to the hospital i was in so much pain it was so unbearable
they ran alot of test me at first they thought i had kidney stones but i ended up having cysts on my
ovaries and the one on the right side had ruptured OMG was that painful and the doctors told me that
it came from the implanon and since then i been bleeding really heavy, having really bad headaches, mood swings, acne, and sore breast. I really can't no longer take having this thing in my arm i'm having it took out Thursday.. Thank god

ur jaw is due to the hydroxycut ingredients. ive been around it for years, and my partner is a body builder, hydroxycuts isnt something to take unless your training to compete in fitness/muscle comps, as the chemicals in it shouldnt be pumped into the body for any long period of time.
id be talking to a pharmacist if you havent already

Re:side effects while having implanon i ... Reply to this message
I have had the implanon in now for over three years. Yeap. I got it just after my son was born in 2005, december I believe... and when the three years were up I went and got it replaced with another one. I think its fantastic for me. Now I do know there are side effects. While with the implant I have experienced dizzyspells, issues with my glasses, cold symptoms, constant tiredness, mood swings, loss of appetite, excess appetite (lol) and weight gain and acne. Probably others that I dismissed.
But for me this is brilliant. The pros outweigh the cons. As a full time student and single mother I don't have time to remember to take a pill everyday at the same time for it to be 65% effective. I deal with the side effects because this is the only contraceptive that offers 99.9% effectiveness rate with no issues of remembering time, or date.
and when you consider the side effects they are similar to almost every other contraceptive pill out there.
from Ask.com:
Side Effects of The Pill:
bleeding between periods
weight gain
nausea
breast tenderness
headaches
mood changes
blood clots

Oh and by the way I forgot to list that my sex drive is just gone now. It's more like a chore to even have sex. Before I used to be crazy about it and now I could care less. I'm calling Monday to schedule to get this taken out. My body has been through enough!
