Hi to everyone out there. I hope you are all well. I am hoping someone who reads this can perhaps help me.
I have been on Deprovera for the last 10 years (consistently- no doctor told me this time period was a problem nor informed me of the bone degeneration it causes) and am now having some 'female' problems which doctors are having trouble explaining. At first they thought it was cancer. I have had tender/uncomfortable breasts for the last two years which has increased to excruiating pain in the breast area in the last three weeks.
I have had a broad range of blood tests, ultrasounds, seen GPs and breast specialists and they just keep filling me full of meds which my body is now rejecting orally on a regular basis... they call it a process of elimination apparently.
Blood tests show I do not have cancer (by the way, is this a definite result?), my estrogen levels are low, ultrasound shows I have no cysts (regardless the specialist wants me to take danazol for 6 mths to see 'if' things change - the side effects are scary especially if it doesn't fix the problem), no infection... and they are at a loss. No-one will even suggest an aspiration they would prefer me to take meds. Unless they know the problem how can they just keep prescribing serious meds (which my body no longer tolerates) - so against doctor's orders I am no longer taking any meds including pain killers as I am tired of being sick, hugging the toilet bowl and walking around like a space cadet. I need to be able to work, to focus, drive a vehicle, plus my children need not see me like that.
I have suggested and asked several times regarding the long term effects of deprovera but am ignored and the question is never addressed, let alone acknowledged.
I would very much appreciate any help, advice or suggestions that can be offered as it seems I am left to investigate myself.
Thank you all. |

| Sorry...my initial message was to the lady who claimed that this was all in everyone's head. That is a ridiculous comment. |

Hi all!
I was put on depo provera in 2002 due to the most horrific 12 day menstrual cycle known to man. After the first month I was completely prepared to recommend the doctor for sainthood, as it ended the 10 years of suffering that no brand of pill would touch.
My husband and I are now trying to fall pregnant and it hasn't been a great deal of fun since coming off depo.
I do believe everyone here that has had problems, as friends of mine tried depo after I raved about it and had really terrible side effects. I do think it's for you or against you!
My best suggestion is that you speak to your doctor, if that fails, try another or demand a referral to a specialist. I have a fabulous gyno who goes through everything with me in relation to what I can expect. (Given my 12 day cycle it's probably different to most)
I know this could be a costly process, but don't you think you are worth it?? When you are frustrated it is easy to let yourslf believe that it is all in your head - don't do that.
I am hoping to be severly up the duff in the near future! I wish you all the very best if luck and don't give up until you get your answers. Take care. |

| I agree. My doctor said it was fine to be one the shot even if I wanted kids in the future. So don't tell us that we are just imaging things and its our fault. Whatever reasons people get on depo for is their business but it is not for anybody to say that the symptoms people have are based on something else especially if you are not a doctor. why don't you be a little bit more sympathetic instead of being rude. this message board is for people to discuss their symptoms with people like them not for people like you to talk bad about them. |

| All of the things the ladies on these pages are only describing things that can be caused by all other natural things that happen to women. Also your doctor shoul not be giving it to untill you hav decided not to have anymore children , this is what my doctor had asked me befor giving it to me . And that is why at thirty i had said to my doctor go ahead as two children was enough . i would like to find out is there any one out there that has been on it as long as i have , This was a dream come true for me as i was always worried i was going to fall pregnent , My worries where gone & so was the dredded monthlys , Also i have never had period pains every again where i used to get them so bad i could not get out of bed . some thinge work for some & some things don't . | THE DEPO SHOT IS DEFINETLY NOT FOR EVERYONE!!! I was living a perfectly normal life as a 21 year old until I was injected with the depo shot in January 25th of this year. I had one injection and had a very bad experience with it. I got the shot to regulate my periods, but with just one shot I was on and off my period for 2 months. It would only go away for 2or3 days and come right back. I had heavy bleeding as well as clots. I would feel weak from all the bleeding and almost past out a few times. I also became very emotional its like I would cry over almost anything. When I went back to the doctor she said that was normal and wanted to give me another shot to help my body get used to it but I refused so she gave me some ortho novum birth control pills instead. So with the shot still being in my system I had the pills in my system too! THIS WAS A VERY BAD COMBINATION!!! By the third row of my pills I felt as though I was going to have a nervous break down. I was short of breath, very nervous like, almost like anxiety and had to make a trip to the ER to see what the problem was. They said that all the hormones from the shot and the pill had my body like that. I also went to my Gynecologist and he told me the same thing, he told me that I had to many hormones in my body and that the shot was a very strong chemical and that it would take a year from when I last got it to completely leave my body.I threw away what little pills I had left that same week I had to go to the ER and I am sure as hell bot ever taking another shot!! I don't think any form of birth control is good for the body which is why I am no longer taking anything ever again in my life! I hate that some of us are going through this, but I am glad to know I am not alone because I feel like I am going crazy right now. And as of right now I am experincing rashes on my arms from the shot I just want my normal life back. I would never recommend this shot to anyone! |

| I would like to let you know that after being on depo for three years it is only natural for you to take awhile for manstration to come back . also it can take up to two & a half years for you to conceive . my daughter was only on it for 8 months & it took her a year to fall . with her first she fell straight away. think about it you had not had a period for three years surely it is going to take time to get out of the systeme from non beliver |

| I am 21 I was on the depo for 3 years and my last injection was 8/2006 because I was getting married and wanted to start having kids. The year before I decided to stop I started having severe abdominal cramps the week before the shot was due, the doctor just said that I was having normal cramping. When I decided to stop 8/2006, about 2 months before that the cramps became so bad I would drop to the ground from the pain. The doctor then decided to investigate and decided to do a laparoscopy and found out I had severe endomitriosis. So on top of being on the depo for 3 years and quiting on 8/2006 I still have not started my period or ovulation and I have endomitriosis which causes enough problems with infertility on its own, the depo shot covered up my endomitriosis symptoms for who knows how long and it seems there is no end in sight. |

| It seems as everyone on here has had some problems with Depo. I have been on it for 3 years now...and I have had no bad effects. No weight gain, no hair loss, I only get a period for a few days in between shots, no moodiness or pain. I had a bone mineral density scan done as well, and it has not thinned or weakened my bones. It will be 4 years in August that I've been on it. |

| No your hair is not going to stop falling out, I haven't taken the shot since March of 2006, and my hair has yet to grow back, it's just brittle and short and thin. I had a head full of hair before taking Depo. |

| I started taking Depo Provera when I was 17, I was only 120lbs when I started and in two months I was 145lbs. I dind't mind the weight, I thought it looked nice but when I didn't go back in the sixth month for a re-injection I lost all that weight in like a matter of months and I couldn't fit any of my clothes all of a sudden. My period started coming every two weeks, lasting for 5 days, then coming back in 5 days. My hair also gradually started falling out. My period was irregular for a year until my ob-gyn suggested I take Yasmin...and it helped regulate my period. |

| I was on Depro provera for 10 years and was told that due to the risk of osteoporosis I would not be given the injection anymore, I had returned to regular cycle three months after the injection stopped, the only side effects I have had is the not being prepared to deal with having monthly periods after having been period free for almost 9 and half years. Depro is not for everyone but if you are thinking of taking it speak to your doctor about all the pros & Cons first. |

| Only had one shot and thelast day of it's effectiveness was 02/20/07 Todayis 03/26/07 and I have had my period for 2 weeks, todayis so heavy and clottingbadly Ihave been told to keep my feet up and rest. I have an appointment tomorrow and might need a DNC to clean out the area and slow things down. Other side effets, I am 20 lbs heavier. I can put my pants on at 2PM and get so bloated at 4PM I have to change. My diet has not changed the shot changed me. I had a long hair growing out of my neck. (I am lucky and never hada lair growth problem before.) I have lost a lot of hair on my head though with this. I am extremely emotional all the time and have had no libido. The shot as I said was to bed over by 02/20 and here i am with the side effects still and a newly wed. LOVELY, please choose another method if you are reading! I will support an public forum to ban this drug. At least I have had my babies, but what about girls taking it who plan to have them down the road? |

This is the most depressing thing I have read.
I have been on Depo for the past two years and I connot believe I had been so ignorant. I went without a period the whole two years and thought "well this is fantastic!" I had no clue the whole time that everything i suffered from was this shot.
I had these insane shooting pains in the back of my neck and skull and thought it was just stress. i would get chronic chest pains and hartburn for no reason. Mood swings were disgusting. I would know that what I was crying about was no big deal but I couldn't control my crying. The worst thing though, THAT NOBODY EVER MENTIONED TO ME, is the awful dimple/cellulit lumps on my stomach. I used to get the shot in my arm but I lost too much weight, they moved to my butt, then told me the new stomach injection was so fabulous.
I thought it was just a stange way that my stomach was forming, I had no clue that these ugly indents were from depo until i met up with another depo user.
-I am permanantly scarred from this injection!!! my hair falls out, my stomach is dented, i feel like i have a tumor in my skull, and my boyfriend thinks i'm crazy. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SHOT. |

| Hi, I have been on this injection for over 8 yrs and love it. No periods, no other side effects. Would reccomend it to anyone. Im 43yrs with 4 children so if I do come of it for any reason getting periods back to get pregant wont be a issue for me. Sorry to hear about all the problems others are having. Just started to have bleeding and period pain at the 2 month mark. Am going for tests. Being bleeding free for so long then starting seems to be a concern. Not even a spot at the 12 week mark. |

| I have been getting this injecetion since I was 18, over 13 years now and just the last 2 years all these side effects have hit me hard, very hard. I have severe cripling headaches, acne (never had spots as a teenager) depression, anxiety, mood swing, very teary, chronic synus probs MRI scan has found nothing wrong with me that could cause this. Its a very unlikely not to be the injection as I cant explain any of it myself, and pills not helping any of the symptoms of any of the conditions |

| I actually cant beleive what I am reading tonight. I have had terrible angry acne now for 18 months (although I did have it before also) and decided to do a web search for depo to see if it may be linked (as it just dawned on me I didnt have it while trying to get pregnant 4 years ago, but I thought it was the treatment that helped). I Also suffer from severe headaches, depression, anxiety, no sex drive no lubrication, short temper, cry at nothing and many other signs that I am now reading about from other women having been on depo. I am going to the doc tommorrow and think I may go mad. I cant beleive I thought I was the one going mad, all this pain and nothing to say what it was after MRI scans and everything else. I started to feel they think I am making all this up. not just the doc but everyone I know. I really have the horrors now. I will be 32 in april and had my first depo injection at 18, never came off it until 22 got pregnant and was back on it by 23. I then came back off when I was 27 for a year until I got pregnant, (while acne cleared I got real thin again and felt great). I was back on depo at 29 and then within months had terrible acne again which I am still trying to clear. Iam being treated for depression and anxiety, also have chronic synus probs and very painful stomache aches, also see a nuerologist for the headaches and after ct scan and MRI nothing was found. (I thought I was mad). I will be reading this more often as I know feel "normal" and that there may be light at the end of the tunnel. |

| hi i last had my depo shot in july 2005, and we are still trying to get pregnant. I finally have my period back with ovulation. See another doctor asap just because you have a period does not mean you are ovulating. I also have children 4 of them so depo is to blame for my inability to get pregnant it is called secondary infertility. Please all i can say is dont waste anymore time find a doctor that will hear your concerns and do tests to check everything is ok. good luck |
