Hi i am a 35yearold mother of two and had my first depo shoot October just gone and have had some of the things mentioned.Like others my doctor didnt give me the full run down of all the side effects apart from mood swings and you may get your period full on to light to spotting(well my first period was light then spotting for over 10 days stopped for 1 week then back again and still going on day 4!I am due for my second shot Dec needless to say i won't be going back for that...Why dont they tell you the facts before hand instead of looking up a notice board and 20 or so strainger telling you what the doc SHOULD have .Best of luck&health to you all girls..

Another thing I was due depo on 30th april and never got it ofcourse. But I still have no period. My achne stopped within weeks of coming off but nothing else has changed. my health is worse and personally feel its all down to the poison of DEPO. I would not recommend.

smarinakes.. there is no need to be RUDE> We are not STUPID, as docs advised it was safe and i like you was on and off for 14 years. SO I am not stupid as did not want unwanted pregnancy, not allowed the pill either due to clots in the family. But again I have just been worse over the last few months I now have Fibroyalgia. Again can be caused to toxins in your sytem. But cant all be blamed on depo but do believe more info should be given on this, and also GPS should be giving the PROPER details of the side effects.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
I am horrified by reading these posts. I'm 37 and out of the blue was bleeding on the pill, for 3 weeks with heavy clotting. My GP, was going to give me some tablet that would have stopped the bleeding but I have a family history with blood clots. So he suggested Depo-Provera. I got the script filled at the pharmacy at the GP's surgery and he gave it to me straight away. I never had a chance to read the information slip inside the box.

That was a week ago, and I am already experiencing one of the side effects, the lack of libido. I told my husband last night I was not feeling sexy.

If I had known, I would never have let the GP give me the injection.

I'm dreading the weight gain part - for the first time in over 20 years I am finally under 100kilos. I weighed in at 98kgs last Thursday. I don't want to go up. It's taken me forever to lose weight properly, so it won't come back on.

Thank you everyone, for opening my eyes to the side-effects. I will never have the Depo shot again.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
I am a 26-year-old, healthy female who has a non-traumatic, stress fracture in my right hip from jogging. I was on the Depo Provera shot on and off for over eight years and my doctors think it may be a primary cause for this injury. Sure, the shot was effective, easy, I loved having no periods, but had I known what the potential risks were, I would have never continued with it. My physicians NEVER informed me of the possibility of bone depletion and I clearly didn't see the "black box warning" that went with the injection. So, next week I go in for a bone scan and extensive x-rays to see if my hip is, basically, eroding. I'll be on crutches for over two months, I'm not able to work and I know that I am not responsible for this injury (jogging in Indiana does not make you break your hip). This is not a personal pity party, this is a warning to all of you women out there. This drug is dangerous and I would highly recommend discussing other birth control methods with your physician, it is not worth it. . . believe me.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
Hi all,

I'm writing an article for a school project on Depo Provera, with the focus on the piece being the drug's dangerous side effects. I would really like to give a human element, or "face," to the article, and I think by doing so the dangers of this form of birth control would really hit home to readers. (The article may be published in a local paper.)

If anyone would be interested in contributing their story to the article, please e-mail me at magazinewriter21@yahoo.co m

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
hi ja_ze_y

it takes at the least 18months for the depo shot to get out of your system. its a very slow process - it took me 18 months i have just finished my 2nd period in a row and it has been the best thing to happen to me.. my health has not been the same i have severe neck pains and find it really hard to maintain proper breathing it is like i'm having a panic attack and takes me a few breaths for me to calm down... very scary... although i have had continuous problems with anxiety, chest pains, not been able to sleep AT ALL!! driving is a major problem... i have been told that i have had a growth on my prolactin this was tested through an MRI but it was all normal no growth and not cancerous - although all these problems seem to be getting somewhat better by the month it has been 18 months now and i sometimes just want to SCREAM, all i ask is for my health back.... i know that it is all due to the depo shot and nothing else.... good luck!!

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
Hi just adding to my previous message. Does anyone know, after your last injection, how long it takes for the medication to be out of your system? I must admit after reading some of the horror stories,I feel relieved. At least I know that I will be better someday, and not feel that I am 80 years old anymore. If anyone has similar joint/muscle pain stories, please write.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
Hello, im also 36 years old, and got my first depo inj in Mar 2007. Since June I have been very anti social, and dont have the energy to do or go anywhere. I suffer from severe joint pain, and muscle pain. Every joint in my body pains 24/7, so much so that I can hardly open my mouth, or walk anymore. I have terrible neck and shoulder pains, and sometimes my leg muscles pain so much that I cant sleep or walk. I have been to my doctor and RA specialist, but none of the medication wants to work. At the moment all I can do is drink voltarin tablets, so that I can at least get up in the morning. I am so frustrated, because I cannot do anything, my husband has to turn me over at night, I cannot move. My next inj is due on the 2 Nov. Im not going to take it, and hopefully I can get my life back

I'M NOW CURRENTLY THINKING ABOUT CHANGING my Birth control im 18 and got on the depo when i just turned 17(Right after i had my baby girl) and i went from 140lbs to 185lbs in less than a year w/no Dietary changes and im now down to 163lbs because of EXTREME Dieting and moderate exersize, I have trouble sleeping,Im depressed,My Sexual Appetite for my husband has began to STOP! and My moods have caused bad arguements W/my Husband. To any1 considering I would suggest really thinking about what your getting into before jumping in w/ any Hormonal Birth Control.Does any1 know how the"Family Planning Method" Works and how would it be effective seeing as my hormones will still be crazy from being on the depo for almost 2years.email me at foxyalways03@yahoo.com if you have the answers THANKS :)

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
My name is Rosa-Maria, and I'm currently going through my own depo induced horror story, or at least what I'm being more inclined to believe is depo induced. My last injection was November of 2006, but since then I've seen my body pracitcally wasting away, most of it recently though. It started in February/March with the appearance of a skin condition called euithma multiforme, which was essentially a skin irruption worse then anything I've ever had all over my hands and feet. I was off of work for 2 weeks once I began treatment, but my health has been on a steady downward slant ever since. Violent migraines and head aches, constant and persistant abdominal pains, lack of appetite started shortly after my skin condition, and then seemed to subside for a period of time. Then I started noticing I was anxious 24/7, stressed beyond belief at simple day to day life, moody, irritable, lethargic, depressive. and then the nausea made a come back. I started vomiting on a constant basis, dropped nearly 30lbs in just over a month or two, my fatigue was unquestionable..I was and still am a shell of my former self. My doctor has checked me for mono, ulcers, gall stones and other gall blatter maladies, pregnancies, thyroid and just about anything else humanly possible. But the more I read these stories I can't help but wonder if depo is the cause and explanation to it all. And now I'm starting to be afraid that it's done damage to my body in other ways, and that I may not be able to have children now. I'm 22 years old and was on depo for 6 years straight.

It's been a while since anyone's posted! I'm Vicki, and I have my own Depo horror stories to tell. Feel free to respond here with questions, or to email me; I also have a LiveJournal at http://every-bite.livejournal.com , so if you have one as well, add me to your Friends List and we can discuss creating a proper anti-Depo support group!

Ive recently been taken off depo after 11 years, i was unaware of the major worries about bone loss and was unoticed as being on the injection for this amount of time. Although i had a few side effects such as the side effects mentioned, and was told they were NORMAL, my time on depo was more or less problem free. I had implanon inserted in july 07 and i have had no problems at all so far.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
hello i have been on generic depo (medroxyprogestron) for over two years now, and honestly i love it. the first nine months or so i had random bleeding and cramps, but ever since then i haven't had a cramp or a single spot since. it does make me tired and fatigued the first couple weeks of the cycle, but not bad. the first couple injections cause sore muscles, but i think that has a lot to do with the nurse giving it. i have gained about thirty pounds, which didn't hurt since i was a zero, but being only five two it is definetly noticable. but i haven't gained more in over six months. i really like it because with no insurance its cheaper than the pill and i save money on tampons. its nice because my hormones stay stable with no period so i rally dont have mood swings. i did in the beginning though. a bit loss in sex drive too but he'll survive. it gets better the longer i've been on it, i really do like it for the most part, and think everyone is different ad reactes different. it really helps with my cysts where the pill didn't. which is nice. hope this helps

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
I am 20 yrs and was on the depo shot from the age of 14 to 18. I got off the shot when I went into the military. After being off the shot for about 7 months I started my period. This wasn't any normal period I had it for 3 months straight. I was put on hormones and pills to stop the bleeding but nothing worked. I had cysts form and the ruptured inside of me and I had to undergo surgery. About 3 weeks after my surgery I had the same problem again. I got discharged from the Army b/c I was on bedrest and was sick for 7 months. This has been ongoing for over a year now. My period would come for 2 weeks stop 2 days come for 3 weeks. My body did whatever it wanted to. I finally got sick real bad again in April 2007 and got put on a Lupron shot. After being on the shot for 6 months I am starting a new form of birth control. Hopefully this will fix the problem. Has anyone else experienced any of these problems??

I was on Depo for 3 years until I stopped to have my 2nd child (I was pregnant within 2 months of stopping) I never had any side affects whilst on DEPO. I recently went back to the doctor to start taking Depo again since I have stopped breastfeeding and my dostor is refusing to use it on me again because she says there is a risk of osteo, now there is no other long term contrceptive I am comfortable with.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
Hi. I have been reading up on some of the horror stories associated with the depo-provera shot and thought I would add to the dicussion. I have been off of the shot now for 9 months, meaning my last injection was around the first of Dec 2006 (after getting the shot for 2 years). I have experienced deadly side effects from this injection. I was hospitalized in Feb. for an unexplained accumulation of fluid around my heart, and had to have emergency surgery to have it removed. I have since then been swelling/retaining fluid in all parts of my body. I have been told that I have Lupus, but none of my doctors can seem to determine where the fluid is coming from. Has anyone out there had a similar experience? If so do you have any advice for me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and by the way the doctors are acting as though they never heard of side effects of this sort associated with the depo shot.
