I also while taking the shot had hair loss, facial hair growth, weight gain, mood swings, loss of labito(still), brown patches aon my breasts, also I had a miscarrage after I stopped. It was horrible. 6 years later, I have a 4 year old daughter and she has a codition called Vaginal Fusion, it is treatable, hopefully this wasn't caused by the shot. My periods are still very heavy. I had another miscarriage where I was pregnant with twins Oct 07. Please everyone out there DO NOT TAKE THE SHOT!!!

Hi I thought you might need some advise...I got the shot about 6 years ago now and after my 3 shot I started bleeding heavy. I wasm diagnosed with Uterine Dysf Bleeding, I had to go in hospital for 4 days an rec Estrogen by I.V.It worked. I bled for about 6 months. I did the Iron shots, my blood pressure went down to 65/43. I had to be carried into the hospital. Do not take no for an answer. I didn't and I got results. I hope this helps.

I am 28 and was on the Depo shot for 1 year. I was recently diagnosed with having a cyst on the left lobe of my thyroid and thyroid cancer can not be ruled out. I am scheduled for surgery on March 20.

I am a sufferer also of this poison shot, I had to have this in order to have the new sterilization called "essure" it is the alternative to having the laser surgery where they actually tie your tubes, and this shot keeps the lining of your uterus thin so that the doctors can perform this outpatient surgery. I too have been bleeding for 3 months, gained 12 pounds, moody ,depressed, uncontrollable mood swings where I actual feel I could hurt someone, headache, no energy, sleep till noon easily if I was left alone, everything has changed so drastically I actually, rewrote my will, put my affairs in better order because I felt as if I was certifiable crazy and contemplated checking into a medical center for evaluation, I am sales person and very outgoing, I have become paranoid, anxiety ridden and have panic attacks over nothing, my eye sight has deteriorated and I am now on high blood pressure medicine because I was on the border of having a stroke, I literally don’t eat enough to stay alive and yet I continue to gain weight, until 2 weeks ago I was unsure what to do with myself and when I finally read and found this web page I had a surge, overpowering sense of relief that I AM NOT GOING CRAZY!!! But now I am in awe that I had to suffer this way, I am still suffering and believe my boyfriend and my children have suffered. I went from class clown, made everyone laugh to a person I do not recognize, I AM MAD this was not disclosed to me! And concerned that I have no idea how long this will remain in my system. If there was a way for me to tell anyone contemplating this shot I would BEG THEM to reconsider, reading these stories tells me this is not our imagination and obviously a man created this synthetic drug. PLEASE PLEASE don’t take it, this drug manufacturer should be held responsible for this and anything that stops your period for months should be second guessed anyway, our bodies are made to have our period for a reason, don’t tamper with nature AND…. You could ...

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
I had only one shot of Depo and it totally changed my life. Two years ago after I had my son my husband and I knew it would be a while before we added more children to our brood and decided that Depo seemed very easy and worth a try. 3 days after receiving my shot I started having severe reactions to it...anxiety attacks, rapid heart beat, chest pains, the feeling that I was loosing my mind, hair loss, ect...( And trust me, I never had any of the above in my life until I took Depo) I kept going to my doctor for help because my body of course was telling me something was really wrong but they kept sending me home treating me like I was a total waste of their time. One day I had an extremely bad episode and knew if I didn't see a doctor I was going to kill myself because I couldn't live feeling like this anymore. My husband took me to the emergancy room where I swore I was going to be admitted into the pych ward..but there I met the doctor that changed my life. One of the first questions he asked me was if I was on birth control and what kind it was. When I told him he didn't act suprised...he said his wife had similar reactions to depo too and would never give it to a patient!!!! He then told me that I might not believe him but in time the side effects would go away. He was right, the poison eventually made it's way out of my system but it took over a year and a half before I felt like myself again. PLEASE NEVER TAKE DEPO! It's not worth the chance of getting sick like I did.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
My story.I have been off the shot for over2 years and in the last two years are when I've had most of the symptoms. I 1st got the shot at 13 and was 97lbs. With in the 1st month, gained 23lbs. and with every shot more lbs..I was on Depo for 3 years. In the 1st month besides the weight gain I was tired all the time I am 19 now and have been tired since I was 13 no matter how much sleep I get. Sometimes it would be months before I had a period other times I couldn't stop bleeding. Once I bleed very heavily for 21 days strait. I never wanted this shot I was made to get it I tried to avoid it every time. When I was 17 I moved in with my boyfriend and we were very happy living together. But then I started to get angry and have mood swings. A lot of times I just wake up mad and not just a little mad. Just angry, I don't feel like doing anything I have no drive for anything sex, life, taking a shower even sometimes I am just tired. I have a huge case of insomnia also which is ironic considering how tired I am.I 've been off the shot over 2 yrs and recently I started having these bad pains in my lower abdomen and I'm telling you I could barely sit down it hurt so bad I went to the doctor and they told me it was a cyst on my ovaries.I haven't been back to the doc yet but it keeps coming back every month and is active a lot of times it just isn't bad pain like it is once a month. Even when I 1st got the shot I had and still have bad leg pain so bad I don't wanna move some nights.Starting in Jan06 I began to lose weight I was 162lbs. one day and by May06 I was 115lbs. I put back on weight and got to 135 and am now about 110-120 I have done nothing to lose weight. Lately I've been fighting severe depression. Sometimes I just want to die so bad I long for it.
symptoms:
depressed
insomnia or extreme tiredness
suicidal thoughts
leg pain
reoccurring ovarian cysts
weight gain
nightmares
etc.
Please someone contact me if you have time to talk to me about these things. T ...

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
Can i just say that i had no idea of the side affects this needle would have on my life and my heart goes out to everyone who has suffered.
My doctor never informed me of any possible side effects that could occur while using depo provera and i am wishing it to be rid of my system.
I had the injection 4 weeks ago and within the first couple of days i couldnt stop eating and didnt know why and had massive mood swings my hair started to fall out and i become increasingly nervous.
Libido became totally flattened and i have now put on 4kg basically 1kg a week put on.
I didnt know of these symptoms until i did some research.
I feel i have no energy and i feel like i'm an old woman who has to sleep many times throughout the day to be able to function properly and at 26 thats terrible.
So to anyone who is wanting to get this needle DONT DO IT i cannot wait till april when it will all be over and i will start to feel normal again.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
Well My story is kinda similar to yours.
I started the Depo shot when I was 18, I was on it for about 2 years, then stopped. I didn't get a period for 2 years after that. I started to get worried about it, Maybe It would cause me to be steril. I went to the GYNO, and they put me on something to start up my period again, But also told me there is a slim chace I will ever get preggers. Im 27 now and want a baby more then anything. This Shot should be taken off the market, we should start a petition or something

I was on depo fro 6 months when it first came out, and there wasn't too much info on it yet. I had all the symptoms you described, plus I would bleed every time I had sex, worked out or even coughed sometimes. Drs. couldn't figure it out, had many exams, and they concluded there was a tear, and were going to coterize me. I stopped getting the shot and it all cleared up. It was terrible though. I Do not recommend this drug for anyone!

I know your pain, I suggest trying natural herbs go to a website called Vitacost and put in irregular bleeding or heavy bleeding and see what kind of natural herbs may help, also try to eat as much natural foods as possible, lots of fruits and veggies, the processed foods just adds more chemicals to a body that is already full of chemicals.
You know some doctors don't care because they get paid for prescribing and and getting patients to take these meds. This is a fact because I work in a hospital.

I know your pain I got the shot twice in 2002 and six years later I am still having issues, irregular periods, extreme facial hair (chin area), I had panic attacks, my left shoulder is still very stiff. I have had sinus infections. I wish this post was here when I got the shot I would have never done it. I want to detox my body but I cant afford it. We women were turned into gunea pigs to test a product that may really do some serious damage as we get older...the only thing I can tell you is to pray and try to be has healthy as possible with what you eat and medicines you take.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
i dont have what you have but i am hypothyroid, and i had a goiter 14 yrs before depo, I gave birth to my son in 2003,went on depo shortly thereafter and my thyroid hasnt been the same since, I actually had it burnt out in late 2004 and my thyroid still will not regulate i am constantly changing the dose on my medicine every 6 wekks or so. I definately blame it on depo, I have every other symtom in addition including joint pain muscle pain, extreme fatigue, the breast tenderness, pelvic pain , hair loss, i could keep going , my doctors kept blaming everything on the thyroid issue. I decided to go off the shot after reading about the possibility of bone loss so i didnt get my shot july 2007 its now jan and i am nowhere back to normal yet.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
I only took one Depo injection in late August of 2007. I had a light, but annoying period for 60 out of 90 days and decided I did not want any more of that and I wasn't willing to take a few more injections to see if things would get better. About two months after the injection, I started getting depressed and it has worsened drastically ever since! I am now to the point that I do not want to get out of bed in the mornings, sleep more than usual, cry a lot for no obvious reason, my breasts got tender, I'm suffering hair loss and cystic acne on my chin. I hate it and I do not recommend Depo to anyone! IT IS POISON! My second Depo shot was scheduled for late November, which as I said, I did not take it and to date, I have not started my period. Not that I enjoy them, but I used to have a normal one that lasted only three to four days with minimal cramping and now . . . nothing. Maybe a few women can take it without bad side effects, but the more I read, the more I realize it affects women in negative ways. Even my daughter tried it and took two rounds of it, but she has had an almost constant period for six months. She's going back on the pill now and says she wouldn't recommend Depo to anyone . . . EVER!

Hi ladies, do some research in to drug trials in Asia and India. You are getting fully tested versions think how bad the early drugs are. 2 Web addresses to start with.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
I'm 30 yrs old and have been taking Depo since I was 21, so 9 yrs now. I've decided to take a break and allow my body to go through the natural cycle for about a year and I'll probably go back on. I really have not had any problems while being on depo except for the last week or few days when I'm about due for the shot. That is when I'm out of wack, I get depressed and have major mood swings, but once I get the shot I'm automatically fine. My mood changes and I'm happy again. When I first took depo I actually lost weight, from 115 to 98 lbs. Yes, that's extreme, but now I'm back to my normal 120. Anyhow, I do think your body needs a break from Depo and that you should have a decent period and detox every once and a while(maybe one year on and one year off) if your deciding to stay on long term.

Re:Depo Provera Horror stories Reply to this message
Hello all,
I was on depo for 2 years. I had gained 25 lbs and did not menstruate for the entire duration of the hormone. I have now been diagnosed with a cyst on my thyroid (no family history of this malaise) and they cannot rule out thyroid cancer. As the thyroid gland is linked to hormones and estrogen in a woman's body, I am almost positive that depo had alot to do with the development of the cyst, even though my doctor disagrees. Does anyone else have nodules, cysts or tumors on their thyroid gland after taking depo?
Thanks
Teprine
